Lyra and I left the tavern and walked out into the night. The streets were dark and deserted, and the only sounds were the rustling of leaves and the distant barking of dogs. Lyra led the way, clutching her knife tightly in her hand. I could sense her fear, but she was trying her best to hide it. We walked in silence for a while before Lyra spoke up. "I don't know where to start looking for Rorik," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. I put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out. First, we need to gather some information." Lyra nodded, and we continued walking until we came to a small inn on the edge of town. It was run-down and dingy, but it looked like the kind of place where people would go to talk about their troubles. We walked inside, and the air was thick with smoke and the smell of cheap ale. The patrons were a rough-looking bunch, but they didn't pay us much attention as we made our way to a table in the corner. I signaled for the innkeeper, an old woman with a wrinkled face and a kind smile. "Two ales, please," I said, placing a few coins on the table. As we waited for our drinks, I scanned the room, looking for anyone who might have information about Rorik. That's when I spotted a group of men huddled in a corner, whispering and glancing around nervously. They looked like they had something to hide. I motioned for Lyra to follow me, and we made our way over to the group. "Excuse me," I said, "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. You wouldn't happen to know anything about a man named Rorik, would you?" The men looked at each other, their eyes wide with fear. One of them spoke up. "We don't know anything about Rorik. You should leave now, before you get in trouble." But I could tell they were lying. I leaned in closer and spoke in a low voice. "Listen, I'm not looking for trouble. I just need to find Rorik. If you know anything, please tell me." The men hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "We heard he's been hiding out in the old abandoned mine outside of town. But be careful, he's got a lot of men working for him, and they're all armed and dangerous." Sometime later I told Lyra to finish her drink and rented two rooms upstairs for us. As I sat down in my room, I started to study a map I had obtained from the men downstairs. They turned out to have been miners who lost their jobs... Anyway, it was a detailed map, but it didn't show everything. I needed to see the mine for myself. I stood up and walked to the window, looking out into the darkness. It was late at night, and the town was quiet. Perfect. I slipped out of the room and made my way through the empty halls of the inn. I didn't want to risk being seen by anyone, so I stuck to the shadows, using my powers to make myself invisible. I crept through the town, keeping an eye out for any signs of danger. As I approached the mine, I could see a small outpost in the distance. It was heavily guarded, with armed men patrolling the perimeter. I watched them for a few minutes, studying their movements, before I finally saw my opportunity. I slipped past the guards and made my way to the door of the outpost. It was locked, but that didn't stop me. I used my powers to step right through it. There were a few guards inside, but they didn't notice me as I crept past them, heading deeper into the mine. I finally found what I was looking for: a room filled with documents and maps. I searched through them until I found what I was looking for: a letter from someone called "the Giver" to Rorik. The letter was written in code, but I was able to decipher it quickly. "Dear Rorik, I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to inform you that further funds will soon be sent to you. I trust that you will use them wisely and continue to make progress in your mission. Remember, failure is not an option. You know what will happen if you disappoint me." I folded the letter and slipped it into my pocket, making my way out of the mine undetected. I returned to the inn and found Lyra waiting for me. "I found what we were looking for," I said, handing her the letter. "But we need to be careful. Rorik has powerful allies, and they won't take kindly to us interfering with their plans." Lyra nodded, looking worried. "What do we do now?" "We need to plan our next move," I said, sitting down at the table. "But for now, you need to stay here in the inn. It's not safe for you to be out on the streets at night." Lyra nodded again, and I left the inn, using my powers to move silently through the streets. I had the information I needed, but I knew that the real challenge was still ahead of me. I needed to find Rorik, and I needed to make sure he didn't cause any more trouble. It was going to be a difficult mission, but I was ready for it.
