Chapter 5 - Broken knight

The man who was bleeding to death started laughing, turned and walked in the opposite direction.

He kept laughing as he walked forward, eyes wide, at a slow pace, bloodlust could be seen in him, as well as arousal.

He tore off the sleeves of his shirt, one of them he used to bandage his arm, the other as a quiver where he kept some twigs.

He walked for a few minutes, he didn't have to get too far because his opponent was also coming towards him.

Now he could see better what looked like a rabbit: it was the same size, with white skin and red eyes.

Its pose was very strange: he rested his forelegs on his hind legs, which were much longer than normal.

When it saw him it opened its mouth and narrowed its eyes, seemingly angry.

Not giving the rabbit time to split, Feinan started throwing twigs at it, the rabbit jumped sideways, dodging them all.

The little beast got into a jumping stance, so Feinan reached down and held a twig in front of his body to stab him.

But the rabbit never jumped: it was a feint, and taking advantage of the time taken by Feinan to prepare for him to jump, he created 7 copies.

They surrounded Feinan, and jumped at him but he didn't move, and the copies went right through him.

Suddenly a rabbit fell from above on Feinan, he moved sideways and pinned it: this was the real one.

He trampled on it until he broke its leg, with the remaining leg the rabbit tried to jump away, Feinan was about to pierce it with a stick but suddenly a dizziness seized him, he almost fell, the bunny, who was running away, saw the opportunity and so it swooped on Feinan, starting to bite him.

The man started to roll on the ground but the rabbit didn't want to let go.

The 2 made it to the beach, where Feinan finally managed to get the demon off his back.

He threw it into the sea, hoping that with a broken leg it would be unable to swim and drown.

But the bunny managed to float somehow, so the man advanced towards the infinite expanse of water, not wanting to wait any longer to finish this fight

As Feinan entered the water a crimson web expanded from him, appearing to be announcing his presence and asserting his dominance.

The rabbit tried to back away as best as it could, to no avail.

He approached the animal that had almost detached his arm, a smile formed on his face as he looked his prey in the eyes, the beast started chattering its teeth, its eyes widened and fear took possession, despite this it did the possible to bite off Feinan's hand, but he pierced it with a stick, ending this wild hunt.

Feinan was nearly passing out from blood loss, as he walked back to the beach, he felt the calm waters of the sea ripple.

He spun around, struggling to keep his eyes open, and glimpsed something large, shark-like underwater, he thought he'd drawn it with all the blood he'd lost.

If he wanted to challenge him, so be it!

He held up a twig waiting for his challenger, but it never came.

An arpoon coming from behind Feinan struck the shark at unheard-of speeds, killing it.  Feinan tried to turn around, but began to collapse from blood loss, eventually passing out.

Mana in the Eternium language was called Ufh, because it was seen as the breath of all things.

It was in fact what keeps everything alive, and constantly pulsated in and out of all things.

Mana absorbed the properties of everything it pulsed with, and these properties could be used to alter the environment.

One could absorb mana into one's body, by directing all the pulses into the abdomen, in the center of one's body, the colliding pulses would begin to mix, forming a nucleus capable of absorbing mana.

The element of someone's mana is determined by the most numerous element in their body cells, the higher the percentage that element in their cells the purer it would be.

The Nosnight family has protected the royalty of the Brownstone Kingdom since time immemorial.

They are a bloodline of knights skilled in using mana.

Ardin Nosnight was the head of the household at the time, and one day he found a baby on the edge of his mansion.

He decided to adopt him and call him Ufhlir, from Ufh, i.e. Mana and Ealir, blessed, hoping for a bright future for him.

However, he soon discovered that the boy had a serious problem: in his body there were an equal percentage of Earth Mana and Metal Mana, consequently it was impossible for him to form a mana core since the elements canceled each other out.

Ardin didn't mind, also because while Ufhlir couldn't use mana, he was an excellent spear fighter and an avid scholar: precisely because he could not use Mana, he wanted to understand it better than anyone else so he could predict the spells of his opponents and counter them.

The servants did not like him, because he got more from the head of the household in a few years than they did in decades, but he didn't mind.

The eldest son of the Nosnight family, Louren, had gone on a mission away from the kingdom years ago.

When he returned to find Ufhlir in his family, he saw him as a rival for the succession, given Ardin's love for the child and his skill in the spear.

Initially this did not displease him: he was not interested in becoming the head of the family and having a worthy rival was fun, but when he learned that Ufhlir could not use Mana, he refused to let him become the head of the family.

Louren challenged Ufhlir for the right to stay in that house and his own name.

Ardin was surprised by the sudden change in his son's attitude and did not want to agree to the duel, but Ufhlir persisted.

The day of the match was a one-sided slaughter: Louren went so far that Ardin had to stop the duel.

That day Ufhlir was exiled from the Nosnight family and his name became Ufhnen: Manaless.
