Chapter 1 - Prologue : Being a witch

Dear diary,

Being a witch means many things.

Bearing the title of witch means graduating from the Magic Academy. Being called a witch means you're a spell caster. Identifying as a witch means you wear overly sized hats that are stupidly popular due to its simple design and its wide rim makes it the perfect hat for introverts. If you don't want to deal with someone, just tilt that thing downwards and you've successfully avoided a meaningless conversation.

Witches can be anything, and anyone can be a witch. But despite our diversity, we all have one thing in common with each other. That is, the fact that we're excessive nerds who like to keep things to ourselves and research all day.

Society has given us as much praise as criticism. On one hand, we're the brains of society, the scholars who do all the next level thinking with our superb academic knowledge. But on the other hand, we're shut-ins who spend their entire adulthood indoors doing shady research without seeing the sun for days.

And I am no different.

I like to lodge in my tiny and comfortable tower as much as I can. But my field of study usually won't allow me to do that.

My specific field is botany. I've always loved plants since I was a kid. And ever since I've stepped foot into the doors of the Magic Academy, I knew what I was going to do when I graduated.

With enthusiasm running through my veins, I walked out of that graduation hall as energetic as I could to go back home and pack up my bags and then run around the countryside near the edges of my hometown to stare intensely at green living organisms for a living. I was living the ideal life.

Eventually, I had to move further away from my town and say goodbye to my friends and family as I moved on to progress further in my studies. I later found an abandoned windmill farm near the steps of a certain mountain, and because the previous owner had righteously given me the right to make it my property, I turned it into my Garden base where I settle in and continue to stare at plants even harder than before.

I thank my father deep inside my heart, I'm still keeping the promise of paying him back for all the things he'd done when I made it big.

With all that being said, going outdoors is a requirement in my field of study. I can't exactly find rare plants in my own house after all, besides this weird fungus that grew in my bathroom and the unnatural mold eating away the wood on my walls, I had to venture out to retrieve some actual plants to observe and study.

The job of a witch sounds eerily similar to that of a scholar or a professor, how are they any different?

Oh how naive, my dearest diary. There is ofcourse a significant difference between witches and scholars!

For one, we have access to magic spells, and they do not. Secondly, we were taught how to brew potions for our own convenience, and they did not. And thirdly, it's a lot more fun being a witch. I can't imagine what it's like to study on my own without my floating sentient pen with me, that must be really tiresome.

That being said, not everyone wants to go through the pain of being a witch. Learning witchcraft is much harder than learning anything else, and witchcraft was only the bare minimum requirement to being a witch anyway.

And that is why witches are superior. There is no room for debate, it's undeniable when you lay down the facts.

That being said dear diary, witches sure do spend a lot more money on equipment and ingredients. I wish we just somehow forge more gold without inflating the economy. But oh well, sometimes some things are just impossible to obtain without real work.

Oh my… Looking at my wallet I can confirm I am definitely in the red. And I wasn't even halfway done with my current research.

Sigh… Can't help it I suppose, I need to go down to town really quickly and fetch some quick money so I can continue what I was doing.

Well then, I think that's all for now. Until next time, dearest diary!
