Theodore narrowed his eyes at the busy road and inhaled a mouthful of smoke. He turned to Nidia and said, "You've changed after becoming a mother."
"I've experienced the pain of when my parents didn't get along. I don't want them to stay together, so it was right for them to get a divorce. Heck, I even think my mom divorced my father way too late... but as a child, I don't want them to hurt each other after the divorce. Even if they no longer see each other as lovers or family, I wanted them to be friends. I wanted them to be nice to each other. I'd be so much happier if that was the case."
Nidia remembered how cruel Barend had been to her and her mother.
Theodore smiled. "When your child grows up, I don't think he'd want you two to marry other people too."
