"Nid, are you finally awake? Jackson picked me up, so don't worry..." Nidia couldn't say a word at all, Grandma continued saying, "I initially wanted to call you, but I was worried that you've worked till too late into the night and was sleeping. Calling you would've disrupted your slumber, after all."
Nidia could feel her throat drying up. "Grandma, you're already in Jackson's car?"
Grandma's loving voice came from the other end of the line. "Yes! If Jackson wasn't worried that I might get hungry and stopped to buy me breakfast, we would've been out of town by now!"
Nidia was still lying on the messy bed sheets. She didn't know what to say.
All she could think of was what Jackson had told her yesterday.
"Don't want to ask for favors? What if I said I'm forcing this favor onto you?"
Her mind thought of how determined Jackson seemed yesterday. It was as if he could handle anyone and anything.
