Sophie woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. She rubbed her eyes and reached for her phone, groaning as she saw that it was only 6:30 in the morning.
"Hello?" she answered, her voice groggy.
"Sophie, it's me, Sarah," her sister's voice came through the phone.
"What's wrong?" Sophie asked, immediately feeling a sense of dread.
"Nothing's wrong, I just wanted to check in on you. How are you holding up?" Sarah asked.
Sophie sighed. "I'm okay, I guess. It still hurts, but I'm trying to move on."
"Good for you," Sarah said. "Listen, I was thinking, why don't we do something together this weekend? Just the two of us. Maybe a spa day or a movie marathon?"
Sophie smiled. "That sounds nice. Let's do it."
"Great," Sarah said. "I'll book everything and send you the details. I promise, we'll have a fun weekend and forget all about David and Jessica."
Sophie hung up the phone feeling grateful for her sister. Sarah had always been there for her, through thick and thin, and she knew that she could always count on her.
As the week went on, Sophie found herself slowly but surely starting to feel better. She had started going to the gym again and had even gone out on a few dates with a guy she had met online.
But despite all of this, she couldn't help but feel like something was missing. She missed the comfort and familiarity of being in a relationship, the way it felt to be with someone who knew her inside and out.
One night, as she lay in bed scrolling through her phone, she saw a notification pop up from David's Instagram page. She hesitated for a moment before clicking on it, her heart pounding in her chest.
As she scrolled through his pictures, she saw one of him and Jessica, smiling and laughing together. She felt a surge of anger and hurt wash over her. How could he be so happy with her after what they had done to her?
She was about to close the app when she saw another picture, this one of David alone. He looked sad and lost, and Sophie couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for him.
She knew that she shouldn't be looking at his pictures, that it would only make her feel worse. But for some reason, she couldn't stop herself.
As she lay there, staring at her phone, Sophie couldn't help but wonder if she would ever be able to truly move on from David and Jessica's betrayal. She knew that she needed to let go of the past, but it was easier said than done.
Eventually, she put her phone down and closed her eyes, willing herself to fall asleep and forget about everything, if only for a little while.
