Cade stood with balled fists and eyebrows scrunched in the middle of the dry canyon. Dry abrasive cold winds howled through the dry and dusty terrain, tossing up plumes of red dust and forming tiny twisters that dissipated after a few seconds.
The scorching sun mercilessly beat down on his Squad mates as it continued to bake the already dry land, draining the students of their resolve and quickly turning their mood sour. The situation was already looking grim.
Sophie walked up to the Squad One Leader, "What now, Cade?" She asked, keeping tone out of her voice.
Cade had gone silent since the start of the exercise. He knew one thing for sure.
He had to beat the teacher's exercise… but that didn't prepare him for what they faced now.
The sudden change in terrain was unpredictable and it was that very nature of the exercise that provided him with nothing to work with.
