"Thank you.. I'm Silvian... "
After a few moments Silvian regained his composure and looked up at this couple that was so gracious to take in a complete stranger like himself. He couldn't thank them enough, this was more kindness than he had seen in his entire lifetime.
"So kid.. " Melvyn cleared his throat and asked
" What were you doing outside when the freeze was coming?". After not even a second of pause
"Where did you come from?? This place is a long walk from any other town or small village. Did you get thrown out?"
Hazel glared at Melvyn and shushed him for saying something so out of line. "I'm sorry he doesn't know when to stop his line of questions sometimes. Please don't take offense, he truly doesn't mean anything by it"
Silvian shook his head, and smiled back at them.
nobody has ever shown interest in anything about himself before. He was just happy that someone cared at all, even if he had to almost die to see the day. "uhmm I don't mind.. I wasn't thrown out"
Silvian took a deep breath " My parents.. I never met them. I was raised by many families that were gracious enough to open their homes to me for short amounts of time. I've been on my own for around 12 years now."
Melvyn and Hazel were shocked and sat quietly as he told them about his life. They didn't seem annoyed or anything so Silvian just kept talking about his life. He felt a warmth he couldn't describe at how interested these kindhearted people were in his wellbeing. He stared into the now cold cup of tea in his hands and only stopped his story when he heard sniffling coming from the chair in front of him.
"..Oh I'm so sorry.. I shouldn't have been babbling on like that. I didn't mean to offend you... please forgive me...I" before he could utter another word a pair of arms surrounded him. For a split second he thought they wanted to hurt him after his tales. The tea almost tipped over as this woman embraced him in a long hug. Shock overtook Silvian, leaving him speechless.
"Dear you have nothing to be sorry about.. I'm so sorry you had to go through that" Hazel said softly while patting his head.
"kid you will always have a place to stay with us."
Melvyn said in a strong tone of voice "Hazel let the kid breathe now, let him continue his story." Hazel nodded and wiped her tears and sat back down across from him with determination in her face to listen to everything Silvian had to say.
Silvian sat for a few moments and after the shock had worn off he started back" Then I went to,...the day was,..... my dreams,... I thought I died,..... and then I woke up here. and that's basically my life in a nutshell so far."
Melvyn took in all the information easily and said "You can't tell people what you just told us kid. It would be bad if they know God gave you a second life, when that very same God has been trying to kill this world for more than a few years now . They may resent you as someone who took the favor of God from them. "
Silvian was shocked "Favor of God? Second life? Are those things normal here? God is trying to kill this world? Why? Is that why it gets cold so suddenly?"
Melvyn stood up "yes those things are normal here, but I'll explain more after you rest up. It would be better if Ellie was here for that conversation. So go get some rest."
Silvian stood up after drinking the cold tea in his hands. Careful not to waste a drop of it. He was directed to a room he could sleep in and went to lay down. The soft bedding surrounded him and an even softer warm blanket covered his body.
There were a million thoughts racing in his mind, a new world, had he actually died, did he steal this 'favor of god' from these people?, he had prayed to live..
In the end he decided all he could do was to try and help them in any way possible. This is his new life and he promised he wouldn't waste it.
The cold night air blew against the walls of this stone home while everyone slept. Little rays of sunlight poured through the gaps in the curtains in the room Silvian had slept in and fell across his face. His eyes shot open when he heard muffled voices outside the door. He quickly threw on his new clothes and slowly opened the door to see three faces turn to him with smiles.
"You are awake!! " Silvian finally saw the girl who he had only seen for a brief moment the day before.
"Ellie.."
