Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

“Hey, Rosalie, are you okay?” Giovanni asked as he walked up behind Rosalie, startling her as she turned around, “Woah! Hey, it’s me, are you alright?” He asked as Rosalie stared at him before sighing shakingly, “Yeah, I’m fine, just a bit shaken up,” she replied as Giovanni continued to stare at her in concern, “Are you sure, we can leave if you-

“What’s that?” She asked cutting him off, directing her words to the box in his arms as he looked down, “Oh, we found this outside in the trash can, it seems to be your mother’s things,” he said earning a gasp as Rosalie stepped towards him before removing the lid.

Smiling as tears welled up in her eyes, Rosalie looked back at Giovanni before taking the box from his arms, “Thank you,” she said sniffling as Giovanni nodded before wiping away her tears that fell, “You’re welcome,” he said before his name was called, “I gotta go help them out,” he said pointing behind him as Rosalie nodded, “Can you take me home after?” She asked weakly, “As soon as we’re done here, I promise,” he said as she nodded before watching as he ran off.

Sniffling as I looked down at the box in my arms, I carefully place it on the ground before removing the lid to reveal my mother’s things. A wide smile grew on my face as I passed my hand through the pictures and books before looking back at the house.

“We found it outside in the trash can,”

Replaying those words in my head made me feel less remorseful as I looked at the house. but in the end, I still felt bad, nobody should have to die like that, grandparents or not. But Marcus was evil and I was beginning to develop a hatred for the man.

“Such a tragedy,” a familiar voice complimented as I looked up to see Mateo, who stared back at me in pity, “What do you want?” I asked standing up with the box still at my feet, “I just wanted to deliver my condolences,” He said as I tilted my head before laughing, “Oh, you mean, hey! my psycho father burned your grandparents’ house down with them in it, sorry for your loss,” I said as sarcasm poured from my lips, causing his jaw to clench in anger, which honestly satisfied my soul.

“I would watch my mouth if I were you!” He exclaimed pointing his finger in my face before I grabbed onto his wrist, squeezing as an unexpected source of strength grew within me, “No, you listen, you and your little gang are already on thin ice with me, and I’m only going to say this once, stay away from my family, you don’t know who you’re dealing with,” I firmly said as my voice unknowingly mixes with another, leaving Mateo speechless and shocked as he stared into my eyes that felt weird.

The sound of cracking bones snapped Mateo out of his shocked daze as he then groan in pain, “Is there a problem here?” Giovanni asked as both he and Genesis walked up behind Rosalie.

“No, Mateo here was just delivering his condolences, weren’t you?” I asked letting go as he moved back caressing his wrist before glancing at the twins, who glared at him, “Watch your back, Garcia,” he muttered before storming off as I sighed heavily.

“What was that about?” Genesis asked as I turned around revealing my face, “Nothing but two people having a conversation,” I nonchalantly replied, watching as the twins went pale, “Can you take me home now?” I asked feeling a sudden weight lift off my body.

“Y-Yeah, come on, let’s go,” Genesis stuttered before he reached down and grabbed my mother’s box, while Giovanni grabbed my hand as we then left.

The ride back to Benjamin’s was quiet and seemed to drag as the twins took glances every now and then at Rosalie, who seemed occupied with pictures of her mother that she found in the box.

The twins were terrified the moment Rosalie turned around and revealed her amber-yellow eyes. She didn’t seem like herself. Her body language and speech all proved that she wasn’t in control at the moment and the twins were worried because it’s seems that her wolf was becoming more and more comfortable with the environment and was confident enough to show itself when it feels threatened or angry. But what was worrisome, was the fact that Rosalie had no clue about the changes and adjustments that her body and life is about to go through.

Arriving in front of Benjamin’s house, Rosalie immediately got out quickly walking towards her grandparents, who engulfed her before Melody walked away with her in her arms.

Genesis and Giovanni had exited the car before walking towards Benjamin, who waited for them to get closer and once they did, he asked, “What the hell happened?” He gritted, “It was Marcus, he set Aaliyah’s parents’ house on fire, with them in it,” Genesis explained, “Jesus Christ,” Benjamin muttered shaking his head, “And how did Rosalie take it?” He asked as Giovanni breathes in sharply grabbing Benjamin’s attention.

“What?” He asked, “We don’t know how exactly Rosalie is reacting to this, but before we got here, we sort of interrupted a confrontation between her and Mateo,” Genesis said as Benjamin clenched his jaw, “Was he harassing her?” He asked as Giovanni scoffed.

“Nah, more like she was scaring him shitless,” Giovanni said as Benjamin frowned, “What do you mean?” He asked as Genesis sighed, “Rosalie wasn’t herself, Benjamin, when she turned around to face us after Mateo left, her eyes were yellow, she wasn’t in control, her wolf was,” he said as Benjamin stared at him in shock.

“It’s happening,” Benjamin said as he looked away, “And it’s going to get worse from now on,” Giovanni said, “ I know,” Benjamin said before sighing weakly, “We should tell her,” Genesis said as his brother nodded, “Not yet,” Benjamin quickly said as the twins frowned in confusion, “When Benjamin? This isn’t something that should be delayed,” Giovanni disagreed as Benjamin looks at him with weak eyes, softening Giovanni’s frown.

“Before the full moon, just give her a little more time, this just happened,” he said, almost pleading as the twins looked at him in sympathy before nodding.

“Fine, but until then, we’ll have her under our protection, nothing will happen to her, we promise,” Genesis said as they walk to stand beside him, Giovanni’s hand moved to rest on his shoulder, “It seems that the more I try to protect her from all of this, the worse things get,” Benjamin said as Giovanni rubbed his shoulder in comfort.

“You think she’ll be okay?” He asked as Genesis sighed, “Let’s just hope so.”

Things have been quiet ever since the fire. I really didn’t want to be in anyone’s presence, so I hid away in my bedroom. I could tell for the past two days that Mel and my grandfather were beginning to feel worried, I mean, it was obvious, showing up at my door with food followed by small conversations trying to get me to open up, but I wasn’t in the mood for talking, I needed to be alone.

The twins seemed to have understood my intentions clearly since I haven’t seen or heard from them, but I wasn’t complaining, I was able to breathe without either one of them breathing down my neck.

Throughout my two-day hibernation, I was able to go through my mother’s things, and honestly, it felt so refreshing to have my mother’s memories that she created with my father, and their family and friends. In the pictures, she looked so happy and carefree, and most of them had my dad and her best friend, Isabella. She was the twins’ mother, and I couldn’t help but notice how gorgeous and loving she was, just by the looks of her smile and hugs.

There were a lot of pictures, which wasn’t surprising since my mother was always a person who loved to capture the moment in hopes of looking back at it in the future. By the time I had finished with the thick picture book, it ended with a group picture. The picture had consist of four people, my parents, and the twins’ parents. This was the first time that I saw my father’s best friend and the twins’ father. James. He was handsome and the more I looked at his face, the more I saw the twins, especially Giovanni.

In the picture, he seemed so relaxed, not to mention so in love by the way he held onto Isabella, and seeing them together made me immediately think about Genesis and the moment we had in my room, but I also thought about Giovanni and the way he was so worried about me the day I went to see my mother’s parents.

But I quickly shook those thoughts out of my head because we were nothing like our parents.

The sun was rising as the light shined through the creak of my curtain. It was another sleepless night into the morning. My mind was constantly running and my hand was non-stop moving. My room was in a mess as I lay upside down on my bed covered in paint.

I was satisfied with the newly painted wall in my room and I guess wanting to repaint my walls at three in the morning wasn’t such a bad idea, except for the part where I had to move half of my things to the next half of the room, but who cares.

Sighing heavily, I got up from my bed, it’s been three days now that I’ve been locked up in my room and I was beginning to feel gloomy, I needed to feel the sun, but at the same time, I didn’t want my grandparents to know that I’ve finally hatched from my cocoon.

What was I gonna do?

Before I looked at the window and rolled my eyes, “I’m gonna die,” I mumbled before walking to the window and opening it. I looked out the window and immediately shivered before looking ahead, the sun was rising, and I could watch it near my grandfather’s barn. But the only problem was that I’m about to jump out of this window, “God, how high am I?” I wondered with a furrow on my face.

Pff! Not high enough for this shit.

Shrugging as I leaned back into my room, I returned seconds later with a coin, “Why not,” I muttered before dropping the coin, “1! 2-

“That did nothing,” I said going back into my room before spotting a bedsheet, I groaned followed by a sigh in defeat, “I guess I’ll be climbing down this bedsheet,” I said before grabbing the bedsheet and tying it to something strong and steady, before throwing the rest out my window.

Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Let down your hai- sweet baby Jesus!

“Here goes nothing,” I said as I sat on the edge of my open window before turning my body around while holding tightly onto the sheet as I slowly began climbing down.

I wonder what would happen if I put my feet on the wal-

“Agh!” I felt the sheet tore and rip, letting gravity reach up and pull me through the air. I screwed my eyes shut, holding my breath in preparation to welcome the hard ground beneath me, but it was soft, bumpy, and pulses-

What the f-

Slowly opening my eyes, I realized that I was in the arms of someone, I sighed in relief before looking up, meeting the most gorgeous and deepest shade of brown that stared back at me in concern before scoffing.

“You’re an idiot.”
