I woke up the next morning and looked around. I felt my heart starting to palpitate faster as soon as I opened my eyes. My surroundings were completely unfamiliar to me. All my breath caught in my throat as my eyes kept darting around the room to try to find anything familiar. I couldn't find anything and all of a sudden all the memories hit me. I lay in the bed as all the memories kept assaulting me, my birthday, the rape, and then getting rejected by my mate for a lie. Everything coming back as suddenly as it did made my head start pounding. The very last memories to hit me were the pain from the rejection and then Agatha and David.
Agatha and David had given me tea to help ease the pain. They let me stay with them and I was in their daughter's room. I looked around again and took in all the artwork on the walls. There were trees and birds, people, flowers, and all other kinds of scenery. The art was amazing, so I focused everything I could on one of the pieces. I stared at a picture of a lake, there were Lilly pads on the edges and a little pier leading out into the water. The surrounding trees added a tranquil feeling and the ripples painted on the water helped soothe me. The picture made it almost feel as if I was standing on the edge of the water.
Finally, my breathing was back under control and my heart had slowed back down to its normal pace. I sat up in bed and tore my eyes away from the picture that had helped calm me down. There seemed to be some fresh clothes placed on top of the dresser. I got up and looked and realized they had been my clothes from the previous day, my sweats and sweater, they had been washed and placed on the dresser sometime after I fell asleep. I quickly changed into my own clothes and walked out the bedroom door. As soon as I opened the door, I smelt a very delicious smell coming from the kitchen and followed my nose.
Agatha was standing at the stove. I stood in silence and watched her cooking bacon in the skillet. Her nor David seemed to notice my appearance yet so I simply took in the sight. David was grabbing coffee out of the cabinet and starting to brew a pot of coffee while Agatha was cooking. They were smiling and talking to eachother, at one point David even bent over and kissed Agatha. He replaced the coffee in the cabinet and turned on the coffee pot. He stood there for a few moments just smiling and watching his wife as she placed the last of the bacon on a plate and started to crack some eggs right into the bacon grease.
"Good morning. How did you sleep?" David asked as he turned and noticed me standing there.
"I slept good, thank you again." I responded and looked away.
"You're awake! Would you like some breakfast and coffee, or even juice?" Agatha smiled as she started to flip the eggs.
"Breakfast and coffee would be lovely." I replied to her.
"Three coffee cups then." David smiled at me as he reached up into a cabinet and pulled out three mugs.
"Is there anything I can help with?" I stepped forward as I asked.
"No, you go sit yourself down and it will all be done soon enough." Agatha and David both responded at the same time.
I went and sat at the table and started to think about everything I would have to do today. Now that I'm eighteen and an Omega school was out of the question. Omegas were not allowed to attend school after they came of age because most of the time the pack needed them to start scouting the perimeter of the pack lands. I didn't know how to scout so I wasn't sure if that's where I would be or not. The packhouse was normally teeming with Omegas that would cook and clean for everyone that stayed there, they provided all necessary services for the whole pack. I would have to take a few days and find out what I was really good at.
Agatha set a plate in front of me at the same time David placed a mug of coffee in front of me and it pulled me out of my thoughts. I smiled at them and looked down at the bacon, fried eggs, and toast that was on the plate. They sat down at their own seats and smiled back. Agatha picked up a piece of her toast and took a bite so I followed her example before cutting into my eggs. The yolk of the egg was runny so it soon spread across the plate as I finished chopping the eggs up. I took a big bite and then tried the bacon before washing it down with some of the coffee. Everything tasted perfect, I couldn't help but finish the food faster than I had ever ate in my entire life.
I looked up and realized that Agatha and David were both staring at me so I looked down in embarrassment. I had wanted to tell them that it all tasted amazing but I was too embarrassed to open my mouth now. I started to play with my fingers in my lap and chewing on the inside of my cheek. I felt so rude for eating as much as I had but I think the last real meal I had was the morning of my birthday. I hadn't even realized I was that hungry because I was too caught up in my thoughts and memories. I waited for the redness in my face to subside and finally looked up as they were finishing their own food. David sat back and patted his stomach and Agatha wiped the corners of her mouth before placing her napkin on the table. I jumped up and grabbed their plates before I rushed to the sink to wash the breakfast dishes.
"You sit down, I will wash up the dishes." Agatha started to scold me.
"Please let me help you, it's the least I can do after you took me in last night." I pleaded with her while holding a soapy plate.
"You can start helping tomorrow, today you need to rest and gain your strength back.
"I have enough strength to wash dishes, I don't want to just sit." I begged again.
"Okay. I'll rinse them then." she gave in and walked up beside me at the sink.
"Thank you, Agatha." I smiled at her.
"You're welcome. Now get to washing." she responded playfully.
We stood there side by side with me washing and her rinsing and David even came up on the other side of Agatha to start drying and putting the now clean dishes away. We made the work go by quick together and we all went to sit in the living room. David and Agatha sat side by side on the couch and I sat in the armchair that was sitting next to them. They smiled and looked at me expectantly and all I could do was look down at my hands. I started playing with my fingers and chewing the inside of my cheek again. I knew they were wanting to have a conversation but none of us seemed to know how to start it.
"We will help you find where you fit in best." David's voice came out barely above a whisper.
"And we will never ask you to tell us your story." Agatha added.
"Thank you, it means so much to me that you two are helping me so much." I couldn't express my gratitude enough.
"You don't have to pick a job for a few days so please rest up and gain your strength. We can explain to the Alpha that we are taking you around to find your best fit after that." David started making plans.
I felt all the blood drain from my face at the mention of the Alpha. Dealing with the Alpha meant having to see Cade who had rejected me at our last meeting. There was no way I could come face to face with Cade again, I remembered the hurt and the hatred that mixed in his eyes as I was drug away from him the last time. He was supposed to be my mate and he threw me aside without even listening to my side of the story. The Alpha was the one who had stripped me of my Gamma title and he had even known I was his sons mate, he didn't think twice about it either. I wanted to avoid the Alpha, his son, and the packhouse at all costs. I guess that meant I would start trying to scout as soon as Agatha and David both felt I was strong enough to leave the house, that would be where I started.
