She wondered why the moon had refused to give her full light. She could see the stars hiding behind the cloud and only a few stars gave tiny light, but that was certainly not enough to make the night brighter. She watched the curtain swing back to position and then she walked back to her chair. As she sat down, her eyes suddenly caught the wall clock. It was already 9 pm and she knew it was bedtime. Early to bed early to rise had been her principle, but this night, she felt reluctant—reluctant to go to bed.
She watched as the minute hand of the wall clock ticked past 9 pm. The chiming sound it makes got her even more confused.
She noticed she was restless. She stood up again, and this time made for the kitchen. She entered the kitchen and helped herself to a cup of cold water. She drank out of it quietly and dropped the half glass of unfinished water on the open kitchen shelf.
She felt aches across her spine as she sat down once more. Wincing in pain, her eyes caught the wall clock, it was almost 10 pm.
She looked around for a while, and then her eyes fell on the spot Mike had laid down dead hours ago before he was taken to Kingston Hospital. She closed her eyes struggling so hard to stop the rushing memories that had suddenly become fresh, so fresh she screamed within.
Hurrying through the staircase, she rushed into her bedroom. As soon as she closed the door behind her, she knew something had changed.
What exactly had changed?
What did the occult men do?
Why is everything so different?
As these thoughts raced through her mind, she could smell that the house that was once fun had suddenly turned into horror.
Suddenly, she felt a burning sensation crawling through her chest region. She tried to fight back in panic but discovered she was beating the air with her clenched fist. She stood screwed to a spot for a few seconds trying to regain her dwindling strength. She wasn’t so sure what had happened.
Could it be her mind was torturing her physical existence or she was hallucinating?
Dreaming?
A few minutes later, she regained her strength and walked hurriedly to her bed. She checked on Terry. She was happy, he was still sleeping.
The thought of becoming a baby crept into her.
A baby feels no pain or evil lurking around.
She looked at him for a while, and then almost immediately the words of Mike hit her like a nail with a rusted end. She felt her heartbeat fast as the words came banging through her mind, “these things you see may be lost soon, I didn’t fix the plug on Terry, he is still a kid, I want him alive, and you will remember when the time comes...”
The word seemed to be echoing around the walls of her bedroom.
She closed her ears firmly with both hands and also felt like screaming, but her throat couldn’t produce any sound.
She tried hard to fight off the thoughts, but the harder she tried, the more the thoughts came like a whirlwind sweeping her resistance and sticking to her mind's eyes.
She could see the scene, more scenes rolling in like a tape playing itself over and over again. She placed her hands on her ears, then on her heart region as
She struggled not to be emotional. She knew she had to shut out the world.
A few seconds later, she lowered the electric lamp beside her large bed, then closed her eyes reluctantly, and slept.
Kingston Hospital had been busy all day. Doctor Lens had taken out time to scrutinize most of his troubled thoughts. The third that came to his mind was his encounter with a rude boy, who had a knee injury, but as he pondered over it, one of his patients walked into his office, and his thought suddenly dropped. She was looking so beautiful, and that caught his attention.
“Hello Doctor Lens, happy to see you.”
Doctor Lens had put on a brilliant smile and pointed to a chair for her to sit down. “Please do have your seat, happy to see you too. I just went through your medical file before you were invited in by the nurse. I must congratulate you. The results confirmed that you are pregnant and the ultrasounds revealed you are pregnant with twins…a boy and a girl. I wondered why you said you never knew you were pregnant, well it sometimes happens. That’s why we tell women to take note when they have a sexual relationship with their husbands, or when they noticed their period had stopped. This helps at times you know, congratulation again.”
Kathryn looked at Doctor Lens frowning, “Doctor Lens I want an abortion right now.” She put on a frown.
Doctor Lens had looked at her carefully. “Are you serious Miss Kathryn? Is your husband aware of this?” He hated the conversation now.
How could she say she needs an abortion?
Is she out of her mind?
Or she is being pushed to do this by an anonymous?
Kathryn put one of her right-hand fingers to her lips and afterward put it down motionlessly, she was temporarily speechless. She then ventured, “I am not married Doctor Lens, and I cannot handle a twin, that is one too many a responsibility for me to bear, so I am afraid, I need an abortion.”
Doctor Lens was perturbed. He adjusted himself on his chair. The story seemed to be getting more interesting now, he thought, “Okay, I see, you just said you are not married, right? So you mean to tell me that the pregnancy was a result of your carelessness, right? So the pregnancy is unwanted, that’s what I guess you are talking about.” The moment she nodded, he continued. “You disgust me, Miss Kathryn, I thought you were married and responsible, never knew you were such a—well, never mind.”
She was busy listening but at the same time felt the lens should be done talking already. When his voice came once more, she felt irritated.
“You said you needed an abortion, honestly I can’t do that. These children are God-given whether you have it by legal or illicit sex, it makes no difference. I was not sure you were raped Kathryn, this was sex you consciously did. Why are you now rejecting the pregnancy? You enjoyed having sex while it lasted, but the result is hurting you within. So, you see sex is meant for the married and not for singles or teens. It takes a mature mind to handle sex and take responsibility for the fruits thereof. I am angry with you Miss Kathryn, this talk of yours is getting my head spinning, I must confess. When children are aborted, they are murdered. They never come out alive, and their lives are terminated callously. Miss Kathryn, I don’t kill children in Kingston, you see, it took my wife ten good years to have our first child.” He sighed and yawned before he began again. “We quickly called her Jessy, because she was so precious to us. Listen, Miss Kathryn, I have come to respect children. It is not easy having them. They are God’s gift, you must appreciate this fact. Yours is a twin, you should be happy rather than nursing this villain notion to get rid of the pregnancy. You need to go out there to see how many married women cry night and day to have children they could call their own. If you were aborted by your Mum, you wouldn’t be sitting right in front of me now, would you? These children within you have as much right to live as you, so please give up the cruel thought to abort them, okay.”
Kathryn got angrier within her. She tried hard not to make it reflect on her face. She was determined to convince Doctor Lens, who was talking contrary to her wish. She stared at him fearlessly and spoke with her painted red lips, dangling attractively, “Doctor Lens, you don’t understand, okay I will double your bill, just help me out of this mess.” She looked scared.
She never wanted to visit a quack doctor for fear of being killed or getting her womb damaged. She had heard so much about Doctor Len's medical abilities. He is simply the best around. She had heard of rumors of how he stopped aborting pregnancy after having a series of nightmares from little Kids, who came threatening his life if he continued with what they described as an unholy act rejected by God their creator, and that he would lose his life if he continues.
She wasn’t so sure if this was true, but she knew to every rumor there must be some element of truth, perhaps. This may be true due to the firm resilience Doctor Lens is putting up here. She wondered whether he had given his life to Jesus Christ and if he had. She knew strongly within her that will certainly make her request impossible. She looked calmly at him to hear his response; perhaps money could just do the magic!
Doctor Lens frowned, “are you trying to entice me, Miss Kathryn?”
Kathryn stood up confused. She kept her eyes on Doctor Lens for a while and then started for the door. She never turned back but just walked straight out.
Doctor Lens wondered why most young girls abuse their sexual lives.
As soon as Kathryn walked out the door, his thought changed.
Suddenly, the words of Doctor Lawal Mongel sprang up strong within him. It was so strong that he knew he had no choice, but to give it a thought even if it means him staying late at Kingston.
He sat down placing both legs on his table with his left hand to his jaw and a pen rooted in his hair. A pen, he never remembered he left there. His mind started working to figure out his diverse thoughts.
Doctor Lawal had told him, Mike's sexual organ was missing. And that they had noticed it when he was been prepared for the mortuary. It was masterly done, you would have mistaken Mike for a woman, he had said, terrified.
The words of Doctor Lawal filled his mind like an unsettled ocean beaten hard by tidal waves, “God! These men are callous, they are not just cultists. They are cruel occult men, too callous. Imagine burying Mike with a missing part—his sexual organ for that matter, that’s simply appalling!”
Doctor Lens was sure Stephnie knew nothing about this. Those men were fast. They acted more like demons in human flesh, he thought sadly. It was obvious Mike was one of them, but why did they kill him?
Doctor Lens can’t understand why Jim Pawlus is refusing to pursue the case. He had called him to find out why and his explanation was baseless more like a senseless talk to him. He could read his mind afar off, that he was scared—really scared and he never wanted to admit it.
He could still remember his horrifying words, “Doctor Lens you are a medical doctor. You must be restricted to that area, and don’t trespass; daring on an investigative path could be risky for you. I understand your position here, but honestly the Mike you think you know. I am afraid you know little or nothing about him. He was very deadly; he was a dangerous Mafia and an invisible killer. I had picked interest in him with great respect when he appeared in one of our most secured prisons to set free a convicted BS member. It was shocking and strange, very strange an act. Quite frankly his move was far beyond scientific description. I am afraid I can’t say much, Doctor Lens, let’s just say Mike was like a breeze!”
Doctor Lens weighed those words of Jim Pawlus for a while.
Much later, he gave up the thought.
Standing up lazily, he looked around, and then picked up some untreated files on his desk. He was becoming scared now and being alone in his office was more like a nightmare to him. He hissed over his ugly thoughts and then started for home.
