I awoke with a start, my entire body throbbing with pain from the previous day's ordeal. It took a moment for my vision to clear and for me to realize that I was imprisoned – locked away in a place filled with an oppressive aura of dread and despair.
Looking around, I saw several other monstrous beings trapped alongside me, their once-mighty powers seemingly drained and weakened by our confinement. Despite the anguish etched upon their faces, however, there remained a faint glimmer of defiance flickering deep within each pair of eyes.
"Well, this is really great! You are the most useless assassin!" A young-looking woman dressed all in black groaned as I rubbed my head.
"You know this one?" Another asked, and then the woman in black turned her nose up at me. Something about this person was annoyingly familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it since I didn't recognize the person in the cage across from me.
