Chapter 42 - Planetside

Aquaria nodded, and we entered the building. The receptionist greeted us, and after a brief exchange, she directed us to the portal room, where we would be sent into the world.

As we stepped onto the platform, I took a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for the challenges that lay ahead. Aquaria gave my hand one last reassuring squeeze before releasing it as our bodies began to dissolve into particles of light.

Within moments, we were transported, and I was sitting in the cockpit of a ship hovering over a planet. I looked down at my hands, and I was wearing some kind of heavy-duty armor suit that moved seamlessly with my human body underneath.

Information about myself and my life before this started to pour in, and I was forced to close my eyes. The last two worlds I had just arrived, but I never got anything like this.

I was a special subject created in an illegal lab inside of a black hole. The lab was destroyed by the galactic federation during a raid, but I managed to escape along with several other genetically modified individuals. Since then, I have taken up the life of a bounty hunter, making a name for myself as one of the best in the galaxy.

As my new memories settled into place, Aquaria's voice came through the ship's speakers, her AI form now integrated with the vehicle. "Alright, Halberd, let's go over our plan one more time before we head planetside to find our target."

We discussed strategies and potential obstacles, fine-tuning our approach as much as we could without knowing exactly what awaited us on the ground. But no matter how prepared we felt, there would always be an element of unpredictability when facing a divine being like Ziri'aK.

It wasn't long before we descended onto the planet, landing in a secluded area far from any settlements or outposts. We needed to make sure our arrival went unnoticed by our target and their family.

"Aquaria, can you give me the list of names and descriptions of each of the family members, ending with the target? I want full details."

"Of course," Aquaria's AI voice replied. "The family consists of the following individuals:

1. The mother, Rhea: A cunning and ruthless woman in her late 40s with short black hair and piercing blue eyes. She is considered the brains behind the family's operations and shouldn't be underestimated.

2. The eldest sister, Tala: A fierce and skilled fighter, she's in her mid-20s with long red hair and green eyes. She has a reputation for being cruel but fiercely loyal to her family.

3. The middle sister, Kira: In her early 20s, Kira has brown hair and brown eyes and is more reserved than her siblings. However, she is a talented tactician and strategist, often responsible for planning their missions.

4. The youngest sister, Elara: At only 18 years old, she might appear innocent, but don't let that fool you. With blonde hair and blue eyes, Elara is an expert hacker, able to infiltrate even the most secure systems.

5. The eldest brother, Brax: A large and intimidating figure in his late 20s, he's the muscle of the group. He has dark skin, short black hair, and a scar running through one of his eyebrows.

6. The middle brother, Jace: Similar to Tala, he's also a fierce fighter but with impressive agility and speed. Jace is in his mid-20s, with sandy blonde hair and gray eyes.

7. Lastly, our target, the youngest brother, Drexel: 21 years old, a cold-blooded killer who enjoys tormenting his victims. He has long black hair and icy blue eyes. He's proved himself exceptionally dangerous due to both his combat skills and sadistic nature."

I nodded, taking in all the information. It was clear that each member of the family presented their own unique set of challenges, and taking them down without harming them would not be easy. But if there was one thing I had learned during my time as a genetically modified bounty hunter, it was that nothing worth doing ever came easily.

"Thanks, Aquaria," I said, gearing myself up for the mission ahead. "Let's get to work."

The dropship hovered silently over the target area, its cloaking technology keeping it hidden from sight. Aquaria's AI form was busy scanning the surroundings and feeding me real-time information on any movement or potential threats.

As I prepared to exit the ship, I checked my weapons one last time, making sure everything was in order. My primary weapon was a high-powered plasma rifle with multiple fire modes, perfect for taking out enemies at a distance as well as in close-quarters combat. In addition, I carried an assortment of specialized grenades and a retractable energy blade for when things got up close and personal.

"Alright, Halberd," Aquaria said through the comms system integrated into my helmet. "I've pinpointed a possible location of the family, but I also just picked up another ship that just jumped out of Slip-space above the planet. The moment they did, they launched two ships into the atmosphere. That is surely Ziri'aK, but the ship will just be fodder to test you. I am sure that she doesn't think they will succeed."

"Understood," I replied, my heart pounding in anticipation. "Let's take down the fodder first and make our way to the family. And let's try to do this as quietly as possible."

"Got it," Aquaria said. "I'll keep an eye on their movements and update you on any changes. Good luck out there, Halberd."

With a nod, I activated my suit's stealth system, which allowed me to blend seamlessly into the environment. Then, I leaped off the ship and activated my jetpack, gliding silently toward the location of the enemy ships.

As I closed in on the first ship, I could see that it was heavily armed and patrolling the area. Taking it out without making too much noise would be tricky, but not impossible.

Using the element of surprise to my advantage, I quickly dispatched a few guards on the outskirts of the landing zone. As I moved closer to the ship itself, I relied on both my stealth abilities and the cover provided by the terrain to remain unseen.

Once I had made my approach, I planted several charges along the ship's hull, ensuring they were hidden from view. After setting the timer on the explosives, I retreated to a safe distance, watching and waiting for the moment to strike. When the countdown reached zero, the charges went off in a series of controlled explosions, crippling the ship without causing a massive fireball that might alert others nearby.

The second enemy ship had started to change its course after the first one was disabled, but I managed to intercept it before it could reach the rest of its crew. Using similar tactics and relying on my stealth, I took down the opposition and neutralized the ship.

"Aquaria, two ships are down," I reported, feeling a sense of accomplishment at the swift victory.

"Good job, Halberd," she replied. "Now we can focus on finding the family and our target. I'll keep scanning the area while you make your way to their location."

As I moved stealthily through the landscape, my mind raced with possible scenarios and contingencies for what might happen when we finally confronted Ziri'aK and the family. But no matter how many plans I came up with, I knew that things could change in an instant on a mission like this.

With determination and focus driving me forward, I pressed on, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
