"So basically, I just have to make the target's life as bad as possible without killing them, then kill them, and that will get me a job well done?"
"Exactly. That is all you really need to know. All you need now is a plan of action," Zeus said with a kind smile, and I nodded before standing up.
I was still confused, but that was expected. "Thank you for explaining everything," I sighed, and Zeus laughed.
"You are new but will get used to everything with time. Head back to the office, and Frond, my ugly assistant, will lead you to the office, where Helena is waiting to brief you on Ace, your next target. Good luck, Trigger," Zeus said, and I nodded before walking out, trying not to shake my head.
Once I was outside, and when the door was closed and walked forward and put my head on the door in front of me. I let out a long sigh and closed my eyes. This was a lot to take in.
As if killing people wasn't bad enough. Now, I also have to make their lives miserable?! On the bright side, I could still get some points for doing things like protecting them and the people around them. Though, that would just put me in a better position to do something awful.
"You had better not fail, or you will be forced to serve as a guide! Now, get out!" A snapping and angry voice called from the other side of the door that I had my head on.
Before I could pull back from the door, it opened, and a woman ran into me, knocking us both to the ground. When I looked up, I was facing one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. She had bright ocean teal hair and eyes to match that reminded me of the Caribbean beaches that I had read about and seen on the internet but never got a chance to go to. She was wearing a white robe, and it was tied at her waist.
"Oh, sorry about that! Are you okay?" She said with a sheepish smile as she offered me a hand to help me up.
I smiled, my heart fluttering in the presence of such beauty. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit surprised by your entrance," I said as I accepted her helping hand and got up, dusting off myself. "Sorry about being here. I didn't realize that someone was in this room. I had just stopped to think."
She blushed and gave an awkward laugh. "That is okay; I was just getting in trouble as usual. I failed a world, and now I am on my final string, but what about you? Are you here to see Death?" She asked, but the... hooded bones in the room she had just come from answered for me.
"No, he is not. I think that Zeus gave you instructions, Trigger, did he not?" The creature called Death asked, but then kept talking without giving me a chance to reply. "I know that he did, and I know that it wasn't to eavesdrop on my conversations, was it?"
I shook my head, trying not to look scared, but come on! How was that even possible?! Death?! "N-no! I was just thinking!" I said, and Death nodded slowly before turning back to me.
"It looks like you have an admirer in our newest VIP," He said with a smirk, but then it vanished. "Remember what I said. Fail again, and you will be glued to the side of a champion! Mark my word; I will make it the most useless one that I can find!" He snapped, and then the door closed, leaving us both standing there awkwardly.
"Death seems... nice?" I said, and the pretty woman turned to me.
"Who are you?" She asked, using a finger to pull at her lip. "Death said you are a VIP, but I haven't heard of anyone other than Jim coming into the office today," She said, giving me a curious look.
I almost began to blurt out who I was, but then I remembered what Jim had told me. Women would jump at me to try to get money, but was that really such a bad thing? I still didn't know this girl's name, but I didn't even have a scale to properly rate just how amazing she looked. Considering everything that had happened in my life, maybe I deserved this, but was this really how I wanted to do it? And would the chaos even let me?
"My name is Halberd, but I am no one special. I am just on my way to go meet with Helena about something," I said, trying to sound casual, but the beautiful woman raised an eyebrow at me.
"You looked frustrated, so I can only assume that you came out of the office opposite this one. No one goes in there but Death and Jim, and he hasn't been here in 30 years. Do you know why no one can go in there?" She asked, and I raised an eyebrow shaking my head. "Because anyone but a three-star would be knocked out cold, piss themself, and orgasm till they were out cold, or just become enthralled and become their servant. There aren't many like Zeus, but because he can't control himself, he has to take precautions."
"Three stars?" I asked, thinking that I would need to invest in a notepad in the future with all these new things that kept popping up.
"Huh? Wait - you don't know what a three-star is? What about Weighted ones?" She asked, and then gasped before I could finish shaking my head. "You're the Chao-"
I put my hand over her mouth to stop her and shook my head. "No, I am not, and I would like for you to not say such things out loud."
"You know, the second you step outside of here, you will be surrounded by beings of all kinds, and it won't just be the poor ones. While I don't know how much Mana you have, the fact that you can just stand in Zeus's presence is amazing. You also have talked to Jim more than Zeus has if the sources are correct. The entire Heavenly Realm already knows about you," She explained, and I flinched back. I had walked right into this.
"Fine. I am him, and I suppose that you are looking for a way out of your debt problem?" I asked, and she nodded.
"Of course I am. Do you think I want to go down and die?! You have no idea the monster that I have to be around! The target is non-humanoid, and the Dark divine being I have to compete with is way higher than me! I don't want to do this. Please, help me! I will do anything!" She begged, and I looked away from her.
"I can't help you. I have my own problems, and right now, I have to focus on that," I said before moving away from her.
The woman let out a sigh and then put up a hand. "Just hear me out! My name is Aquaria, but I am not using you. I know it seems that way, but you have no idea what it is like! You are an oddity that never had to be a champion. None of us knew that we were going to get this debt! No one ever tells you!" She explained, and I sighed.
