As I prepared to leave for school, I called out to my little sister Nazuna, who was busy tidying up the breakfast dishes.
"I'm heading out now," I announced.
Nazuna paused, looking at me with an impish glint in her eyes. "Onii-chan."
I turned to face her. "Yes?"
A mischievous smile played on her lips. "Have you considered marrying Yui-chan?"
I couldn't help but choke on my breath, my face instantly flushing. "You! Stop joking around!"
Her tone turned sarcastic, and she adopted a sly expression. "Joking? Even Ms. Chika gave you a green light."
I sighed in exasperation. "Are you having fun?"
"Just a little," she admitted with a smirk. "Though, I kinda feel bad for you, Onii-chan."
"Why's that?"
She grinned. "You'll get stabbed in the back by a fan once they find out that Yui-chan is engaged to a normal guy like you."
I shot her an annoyed look. "Oh, come on! I'm leaving."
Nazuna chuckled as I walked away. "Teased him a bit too much, maybe."
The door closed behind me, leaving Nazuna with her amusement, and an embarrassment.
As I stepped into the classroom, my attention was immediately drawn to Yui engaged in a casual conversation with my two oshi's.
Yui noticed my entrance, and a blush painted her cheeks as she looked down, her fingers nervously playing with a strand of her hair.
Feeling a matching warmth on my face, I made my way to my seat, trying to maintain composure. "Calm down," I muttered to myself. "Yui's mother was probably just joking about the 'fiance' thing. I mean, me? A mere peasant becoming the fiance of a famous idol? That's the stuff of protagonists, and I'm just a background character!"
I took a deep breath, attempting to shake off the flustered feeling that threatened to linger. The classroom buzzed with whispers, and I couldn't help but wonder what my oshi's were discussing with Yui.
Hm? Yui? What's wrong?" Aoi asked, her eyes narrowing in concern. "Your face is red."
"N-Nothing~ Ehehehe~" Yui responded, her voice carrying a nervous giggle. She slowly looked up, her gaze locking onto me, and I quickly averted my eyes, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks.
"Oh god... I think I've used up all my entire luck," I mumbled under my breath, hoping no one else heard.
As the day progressed, lunchtime finally arrived, and Sakura invited me to join them.
"Kousei, wanna go have lunch?" Sakura asked with a friendly smile.
I was about to nod in agreement when I noticed Yui standing right behind Sakura. Panic set in, and I hastily fabricated an excuse, my face turning an even deeper shade of red. "Ahh! Sorry! It seemed that I was already occupied by my friends! Sorry, Sakura!" I bowed quickly before making a hasty retreat.
"Huh...? That was... weird. Right, Yui?" Sakura turned to Yui, who was also sporting a noticeable blush.
The day continued, and during our afternoon break, Sakura seemed more observant than usual. She kept glancing between Yui and me, a curious expression on her face.
"Yui, is there something you're not telling us?" Sakura asked with a sly grin.
Yui, caught off guard, stammered, "W-What do you mean, Sakura?"
"You and Kousei seem a bit... off today. Anything happens?"
Aoi chimed in, "Yeah, you both were blushing like tomatoes earlier."
"N-Nothing happened!" Yui insisted, her cheeks still tinted pink. "We're just... having a weird day."
Sakura raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "Weird day? You two sure are acting strange. Come on, spill the tea!"
Yui made a panicked look.
The bell mercifully rang, putting an end to Sakura's interrogation. Yui relief washing over them. However, it was evident that Sakura had become the detective of our little drama, and her curiosity was far from satisfied.
And so school went on, and as the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, I sighed in relief. I began packing my things when Sakura approached me with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Kousei."
I turned to her. "Hm? What's up, Sakura?"
She glanced at Yui, who seemed just as surprised as I was and then shot me a sly smile. "I know this is sudden and all, but... can you go out with me?"
Time seemed to freeze as Sakura's words hung in the air. The entire classroom fell silent, and every pair of eyes turned toward us.
My mind struggled to catch up, processing the situation. Did Sakura just... ask me out? In front of everyone?
Sakura, reveling in the attention, continued with her playful grin, "Well, what do you say, Kousei? Interested in going out with me?"
The classroom erupted into whispers, and I felt the weight of everyone's gaze. Yui's eyes widened, and she seemed as bewildered as I was.
Is this some kind of joke? What's happening? It's too sudden that I can't process my mind.
Surely... I'm not in a novel labeled as a main character in a harem series right?!
But don't be chicken Kousei.. You know what you have to say! Just say the word!
