Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

JIMMY CHOO

Taylor sat in front of the TV, flipping the channels; she sighed at intervals and changed positions on the sofa; she checked the wall clock for the hundredth time; and she glanced at her phone, which was lying next to her. After what seemed like an eternity, she got up and walked to the front door and out of the compound. She opened the gate and looked around the driveway. She walked back to the house worried, and when she got in, she grabbed her phone and dialed a number while pacing the living room. After she got no response, she walked to the dining room to observe the food she had made three hours earlier. She checked the wall clock again, and it was 11:56 p.m. She packed the food on the dining table and shoved it in the refrigerator. She grabbed an apple and returned to the living room, but before she could settle in the sofa, she heard a car honk. She rushed to the window and saw her friend, whom she had been waiting for, drop from a car; she couldn't see who was in the driver's seat, but she knew they kissed before she alighted and the car drove off.

A few seconds later, Maureen walked in with a bright smile. "Hello Taylor," she beamed in excitement, flaunting the multiple shopping bags she carried. "Before you say a word or lash out at all, here is Jimmy Choo," she handed her a bag containing the high-class designer shoe. "Babe Jimmy Choo, like my best of the best, I've been wanting some of these all my life," she squealed. Taylor received it unenthusiastically and tossed it aside. She gave a fake smile and folded her arms, giving her friend the deadly stare. Maureen knew what was coming for her, so she handed her another shopping bag, "This is D&G, Dolce and Gabbana," she pronounced in a rich Italian accent, "it is a perfume, the fragrance of joy." She dropped the bag on a stool next to her. She looked up to meet Taylor's face, impulsively dropping all the bags she was carrying and hugging her. "I'm sorry," she pouted her lips, "I didn't know time was far spent; please forgive me," she sniffed shallowly, pretending to sob. Taylor pulled her away and sighed in frustration, "I had to beg a colleague to cover my shift so I can prepare all these," she pointed to the decorated ribbons and balloons around the living room, the cake placed in a corner, and the dining table," she exhaled sharply, "and what did you do? You came in a few minutes past your birthday. "What's the point of all these preparations when the day is over?" Maureen walked closely to her and hugged her again. I'm so sorry; I thought I would only step out briefly and return home on time. "You said you had no plans; you didn't tell me Jude was around," Taylor mentioned, wriggling out of the hug and walking to the sofa, where she dropped in tiredly. "I honestly had no plans, but this guy came calling, and babe, his pocket was heavy; he is the real goldhead," Maureen stated with a grin. "Wait! "That wasn't Jude?" asked a surprised Taylor. "Who is Jude?" She feigned ignorance and asked, "Who's that?" You really think that boy can afford all these," she pointed to the multiple shopping bags on the floor, "babe, this is DIOR! "JIMMY FREAKING CHOO," she yelled dramatically. "Boys don't do this kind of shopping," she smacked her lips and removed her wig. "See Taylor, Jude forgot today was my birthday; that dude doesn't care about me at all," she complained as she packed the shopping bags, "why do I have to sulk over his nasty attitude, girl, when I have men dying to have me and buy me some Jimmy Choo?" she winked at Taylor and walked into the bedroom. Taylor, who was stunned, followed her, "Nasty? Did you say nasty? "You told me yourself that he's out of town for an interview; he's got the prospect; he loves you; how can you call him that?" Maureen turned to her and pouted her lips. "That's so sweet, Tee, but look around you, babe—can Jude afford all these?" "That dude has never bought me anything worthy of me." Taylor looked from the bags to the tattoo behind her neck that read "Judy Jude" and scoffed. "Jude paid your tuition fee in college; he was there when you spent half a year at the hospital; he told you about that same job you have now; he... "Don't guilt-trip me, Taylor," she said sternly. "I don't want Jude again, and that's final!" What are you? His sister? Jeez! "You've never met him, and you're advocating this hard for him..babe, please chill," she eased her tone and smiled at her friend. "You told me all these things about him, everything he did for you, and suddenly you don't want him because you now earn more than him or because he can't afford Jimmy Shu?" "See, even if you want to break it off, why does it have to be because he doesn't have money?" Taylor was perturbed. "Thanks for the advice, mom!" I'm hungry! And it's not Shu, it's Choo, as in Jimmy Choo; she responded with a broad smile and walked out. "You're going to regret this," Taylor said under her breath. "Consequences be damned!" She yelled as she walked towards the refrigerator.

"What's all this?" She asked with a smirk, "Did you order these or cook?" Taylor appeared behind her, peeping into the refrigerator. "I cooked for you," she said nonchalantly. "Wait! And there are no firefighters here? Wow! "That's a lot of improvement," Maureen said chuckling, "please don't cook again; don't even boil eggs. Jeez! "Thank God I came home late; I would have been forced to see all these," she said amidst laughter. Taylor rolled her eyes and walked towards the bedroom. "Where are you going?" She asked, stopping her in her tracks, "To bed, of course; it's been a wasteful day," Taylor hissed. "Not until we trash these out," she said, pointing at the packed food in the refrigerator, "and check out all my latest designers." Taylor gave her a bad eye and shook her head in disgust, "Throw them out yourselves, and yea, compensate your betraying ass with your Jimmy Shu," she slammed the refrigerator's door closed and walked out. "Jimmy CHOO, NOT SHU!" Maureen yelled again.
