Chapter 20 - Meeting the Cullens 5

"Let's start the game, Alice, no mercy for them, I want to win!" shouted Emmett, and the other vampires laughed.

Alice also laughed, the first to bat on Paul's team was Edythe, she didn't like losing to Edward and didn't like that Emmett always chose Edward over her, this time Edythe thought she had a chance to win if Paul knew how to play.

Alice knew Edythe was strong and fast, so it was better to throw a Slider ball, even if Edythe hit it, it was difficult to make a Home Run in a vampire baseball game, the taboo in vampire baseball was to throw a Fastball, with their reflexes it was impossible to be a strike.

Alice threw the ball high and to the right corner at Edythe who wasn't that tall, and couldn't hit it the way she wanted, but Edythe was smart and hit it to right field, away from Edward, Carmen, and Kate were new to the game and didn't catch the ball despite their reflexes.

Edythe ran at maximum speed and quickly passed first, second, and third base until Kate caught the ball and threw it to Tanya, Edythe stayed at third base and was close to making the first point for the team.

Kate and Carmen apologized to their teammates, the Cullens on their team couldn't complain, and they realized that Carlisle had set a trap for their team by leaving one side weaker.

Carlisle knew that Kate and Carmen would play well soon, but he knew that his team's players were weaker, so the first points had to go to their team, so they had a chance to win.

Continuing the strategy of securing points, the second to bat was Jasper who was also fast and hit well, Alice noticed this and didn't use a Slider ball, she wanted to try a curve ball.

Unlike humans, vampires liked the more difficult plays, after all, they didn't have to worry about injuring their arm throwing difficult balls, and they didn't have slow balls.

Jasper knew Alice was going to try a curve ball, so he prepared himself. Alice threw the ball that curved down, almost out of the strike zone. Jasper focused and hit the ball, sending it to the right field.

This time, Carmen and Kate reacted quickly, but Jasper's hit was too good. Edythe passed the Home plate and scored a point. Jasper ran quickly past the first base and second base until Kate caught the ball and threw it to Rosalie.

Now, Paul's team had one point and Jasper was on second base. It was almost certain that they would score another point, at least. The third batter was Carlisle, and he wanted to ensure they got another point.

But this time, Alice threw another Slider ball, and Carlisle hit it poorly and was eliminated. It was the first strike for Alice's team. The vampires' reflexes were quick, but Alice's Slider ball was also fast. Only vampires faster than she had a better chance of hitting it.

Paul understood how different the vampire games were. Unlike humans who needed mainly training and techniques, vampires who surpassed human limits depended on speed and strength to win this game.

Paul felt he was faster than Edythe and stronger than Emmett, so as someone who had the technique to play when he was human, he shouldn't have difficulty playing well when it was his turn.

Now it was Esme's turn. She was intelligent like Jasper and wanted to hit the ball far enough for Jasper to score another point. Alice threw another Slider ball, and Esme managed to hit it to right field.

Esme advanced to first base, and Jasper reached third base. Kate, who caught the ball quickly, prevented Paul's team from advancing further. Then it was Eleazar's turn. He knew he couldn't hit the ball far, so he hit it hard on the ground to left field.

Edward, who was waiting for it, quickly advanced and caught the ball. He threw the ball to try and eliminate Esme, and he succeeded, but Jasper still managed to score one more point for Paul's team.

"Great job, Eleazar. Now we have two points and the advantage in the game," said Carlisle.

"Hahaha, looks like I made the right decision," said Eleazar.

It was soon Irina's turn, and she was eliminated. Thus, Paul's team's attack had ended. Paul's defensive team, consisting of Carlisle, Edythe, and Jasper, who were the fastest, were in the left and right fields.

Paul was faster than Edythe and Jasper, but he didn't know how to move quickly and precisely to catch balls in the air. So, he preferred to play as a pitcher. Paul was ready to win, even if he had to play dirty.

The first batter for Alice's team was Tanya. It seemed like they wanted to see if Paul was good enough first. Paul just laughed and threw a Slider ball, just like Alice did. However, everyone could see that the ball had much more speed and was difficult to see.

It was the first strike a pitcher had gotten in the game. The players on Alice's team saw that Paul was skilled and fast. Alice, who saw Paul's pitch, was happy to see that they had something in common.

Soon, Alice's team regretted their decision to choose Tanya. After all, Paul eliminated her with a third strike. Tanya pretended to be angry with Paul, and the other vampires laughed. Fortunately, the next batter was Edward.

"Come on, Edward. Paul may be skilled, but he's new to baseball with vampires. You've always been our best player for 50 years. You can't lose," said Emmett.

"Thanks for the extra pressure, Emmett," said Edward.

Edward was a great player and the fastest of the vampires in this game. So, he thought it would be a shame if he was eliminated with a strikeout. At least he had to hit the ball.

Paul also took it seriously. He wanted to see how fast Edward was, so he first threw a Slider to play it safe. The ball was thrown at high speed, but Edward could see it clearly and tried to hit it.

Edward was confident and didn't use all his strength and speed to hit the ball. He saw the ball passing by and Esme catching it. It was a strike. Edward saw the ball but didn't take it seriously and lost in the speed battle for the first time.
