Chapter 23 - The Monster Outbreak (1)

After waking up and getting ready, Viel got to Lux's room and opened the room without knocking knowing he was deeply asleep.

"Lux wake up! It's an emergency." Vie said as he shook Lux.

"Big Bro…It's you?" Lux replied groggily.

"A monster outbreak is occurring. You need to prepare."

When Lux heard that, he woke up and began to get ready.

He peeked through the window and saw several Dwarven patrolmen running towards the South Gate of the village.

The red-headed boy immediately equipped the Wolf's Leather Armor that he had acquired in his Gacha Pull before and waited for his brother's instructions.

"Lux, an Undead Outbreak is coming from the South Zone. We must go to the South Gate and help."

Lux nodded as he agreed with him. Both left the room and headed downstairs. They met with the Innkeeper.

"Are you planning to participate in the village's defense?" asked the Innkeeper.

"Yes."answeered Viel. "Even though we just arrived, we feel the need to protect this place and its people."

Hearing this the Innkeeper couldn't help but smile.

"If you do well I will make you something good for breakfast free of cost. I will make sure you didn't slack off!"

They both nodded and left the inn. The dwarves in the inn were left speechless by the half-elves' resolve.

….

As they hurried towards the Southern Gate of Leaf Village, they noticed several Dwarves running alongside him.

"Big Brother Viel! Big Brother Lux!" As she ran alongside them, Colette waved her hand. "Are you going to participate in the village's defense?"

"Yes." Lux replied.

"Colette, is it only me, or do you also seem pretty hyped about this thing?" Viel asked.

"I am definitely hyped! It's the first time I'll be able to participate in a village defense. Normally, my parents forbid me from doing anything dangerous like this, but now that I'm here in Elysium, they won't be able to stop me!"

"Okay, just make sure to do things in moderation, alright?"

"Un!"

After having some small talk, Colette increased her running speed and left the twins behind.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the South Gate, which had been shut tight. Several Dwarven patrol guards could be seen standing on the ramparts, holding crossbows in their hands.

On one side of the protective wall, just beside the entrance, Colette and her party had gathered and were gazing into the distance.

Without wasting any time, Viel and Lux ascended the ramparts to also observe their adversaries.

Upon reaching the top of the protective walls of Leaf Village, Viel's face turned grim with immediacy upon seeing a multitude of skeletons and zombies staggering toward Leaf Village.

Viel could see that Lux was frowning.

"First time seeing a Monster Outbreak?" Viel asked mockingly.

"As if you have seen one before." replied Lux.

"Maybe, maybe not. Who knows." Viel said playfully.

At this moment, Lux remembered that unlike him, his brother did participate and helped their grandma in the Monster Outbreaks at Wildgarde Stronghold.

Viel left him as he saw Colette coming.

'Even if she can't be sweeter, I can't help but need to rest from her.' thought Viel.

Suddenly he heard a clacking noise. He turned to see what it was and found out that Lux has summoned Diablo to show him to Colette.

He thought about doing the same and summoned Ferto and Jör.

Out of nowhere, several bolts flew in Diablo's direction, but Ferto reacted quickly and stopped them with its body before they could hit Diablo.

"W-Wait! Stop!" Lux cried out as he waved his hands toward the Dwarven Defenders. "We are on the same side! This is my Summon!"

Ignoring it, Colette ran towards Viel.

"Big Brother Viel, who are they?" Colette asked.

Viel bent down and answered her. "They are my summons. He is Ferto." Viel pointed to the Living Armor. "And he is little Jör" He pointed to the little serpent he had surrounding his neck.

"Can I pet it?" Colette asked cutely.

"Of course. Jör would you let Colette pet you?"

"Hisss" Jör nodded as he moved his head toward her.

She petted him and laughed.

"How cute you are!" Colette exclaimed.

All of a sudden, a dwarf boy appeared and dragged Colette away from Viel.

"Hey, Matty, what do you think you're doing?!" Colette complained as she turned around to glare at the Dwarven boy.

"The battle is about to start." Matty explained. "You are the leader of our group, so your place is here and not there! Both of them are older than us, so they can fend for themselves." said the boy referring to him and Lux.

"Brother!" shouted Lux. "We're fucked!"

"Hey! Language." Viel scolded Lux. "What happens?"

"The Undead Army amounts to 9,889."

"Ok, we are fucked." Viel said.

"And now you can curse?"

"Of course, I'm the older one after all."

As if waiting for that moment, a row of text appeared in front of both of them, which made their expression turn grim.

Knowing that it was going to be a very hard battle, Viel told Lux to join his party.

"Accept my invitation." Viel said as he looked at Lux.

Several rows of text appeared in front of Lux, asking him if he wanted to join Viel's party, which he accepted without a second thought.

"It's coming from the North." Viel said as the sound of the bell in the North intensified.

Suddenly a dawn of realization descended on them.

"Big Brother, reinforcements will arrive in an hour. We just need to hold out until then!"

"Everyone listen to me!" a Dwarf wearing full body armor shouted as loud as he could. "My name is Aron, and I am the Captain of the Guards here in Leaf Village. Our reinforcements will arrive in an hour, so do everything in your power to protect the village until then! One last thing, none of you are allowed to die! Now, brace yourselves! They are almost here!"

The sound of a blowhorn reverberated in the night, heralding the battle that was about to start.

"Archers, aim!" Aron ordered.

All the archers and crossbowmen loaded their bows, and crossbows with bolts and arrows and took aim at the approaching army.

Lux held the fist-sized rock in his hand and aimed at the nearest undead in front of him. At the same time, Viel took out his throwing knives and aimed at the head of a ghoul as he know that destroying a skeleton's head would not kill it.

"Fire at will!" Aron ordered.

Soon, a barrage of projectiles rained down on the Undead Swarm, destroying the Undead at the forefront of the battlefield.

As the half-elves' first Monster Outbreak began, they had no way of knowing how it would end…
