"This is troubling news," I said as Elara shared her findings with me. "As if the monsters weren't trouble enough. Do we have any clues as to who this person or monster is?"
"The evidence we've collected is inconclusive," Elara admitted with a frown. "It's as if they're intentionally remaining in the shadows. But it's clear that someone is trying to manipulate the situation, and we must put an end to this before it escalates any further."
"Our next step should be to bring this information to the village leader," Fiona suggested. "We need their cooperation in order to root out whoever is responsible for these attacks."
With everyone in agreement, we made our way back to the village center, where we shared our findings with the spokesperson and other concerned villagers. They listened intently, shock and fear evident on their faces as they took in the news.
The village leader sighed heavily, his face lined with worry. "These revelations are truly disturbing, but I'm grateful for your help in uncovering the truth. It seems we have a common enemy, one who seeks to divide us by perpetuating fear and violence."
I nodded solemnly. "Indeed. And now that we know there is a hidden manipulator at play, we can work together to protect both our people and yours. We have a chance to overcome this threat and create lasting peace between humans and monsters," I said and then frowned. "What kind of monster can be forced to do something and not even see the person? You haven't mentioned what kind of creatures these are."
Elara hesitated before responding, her eyes darkening with concern. "From what we've gathered, it appears to be a type of shadow creature – elusive and difficult to capture, let alone communicate with. They seem to be under the control of this unknown manipulator, though their exact motives remain unclear."
"This complicates matters," I admitted, rubbing my chin in thought. "Nonetheless, we must press on and find a way to expose and neutralize this threat. The safety of both our peoples depends on it."
"Well, maybe you should be the one to go out and have a talk with them. Creatures tend to listen to you, whether they want to or not," Fiona suggested, and I nodded. Being in this village with humans was starting to become suffocating.
"I am not one to complain about going for a walk. Give me the direction, and Kya and I will take a look alone," I decided, glancing down at the scimitar that was Kya. She could sense the lingering tension and uncertainty in the air as well.
As we ventured into the darkening woods where Elara believed the shadow creatures to be hiding, an eerie silence enveloped us. The dense foliage seemed to swallow any hint of noise until all that remained were our labored breaths and the crunching of leaves beneath our feet. My senses strained, searching for any sign of the elusive monsters as Kya shifted back into her human form beside me.
Kya's hand rested on my arm, offering silent support as we delved deeper into the shadows. It wasn't long before we caught sight of the first creature – a flicker of darkness darting between the trees. We approached cautiously, trying not to startle it.
"What in the forged nonsense was that?!" I demanded. Each time I was reborn, new creatures would be born of all kinds and dangers, but that thing was just wrong. While I wasn't much of one to throw salt on other creatures, something about what I had just seen didn't feel right.
For a moment, the only response was the echo of my words through the eerily silent forest. But then one of the shadow creatures stepped forward, its form seeming to solidify and take shape as it approached.
"I am," it hissed, its voice barely more than a whisper yet laced with venom. "What do you want?"
I met its gaze unflinchingly. "We've come to put an end to your attacks on Keth Rock," I stated firmly. "The villagers have suffered enough at your hands."
The creature let out a chilling laugh. "You think you can stop us? We are but pawns sent by our master to sow chaos between humans and monsters."
"And who is this master?" I demanded, my patience wearing thin.
The way the creature spoke to me made it clear that it didn't know who I was. This was understandable, but my patience was already strained after dealing with the humans.
The shadow creature hesitated as if considering whether to divulge that information. Finally, it spoke again, its voice barely audible. "Our master is powerful and cunning... someone who knows your kingdom's weaknesses all too well."
I grabbed the form by the throat, and it tried to dematerialize. "You really don't know who I am?" I said as light blasted from my palm, and all the creatures screamed as the light beams from my hands held them all in place. "I am vengeance, and you are in my way," I growled, a muscle from my arm tearing off my arm and getting into the shadow's face. "Tell me what I want to know, or my muscles will drain the Supernatural Essence from your... spawns as you watch until only you are left!"
The creature's eyes widened in fear as it finally seemed to recognize the gravity of the situation. It stammered, struggling to find its voice under my grip. "A-Alright! Our master... our master is a being who wishes to see your kingdom fall," it admitted through gritted teeth. "We were promised power and freedom if we could bring an end to any chance of peace between monsters and humans."
I tightened my grip on the creature, fury boiling within me at this revelation. "Tell me now who this master is, or I swear you will suffer for what you've done!"
The shadow creature glanced around desperately, seeking an escape that wasn't there. "I-I don't know their true identity…only that they are deeply familiar with Havencrest's inner workings... We- We receive orders from them but never meet face-to-face."
