A spear drove through my chest, and I coughed out blood. Life was slipping away from me, and I had failed again. I was forced to watch her be killed again, and I reacted again.
"No matter how many lives you live, we will be waiting for you, Allgora. Your kind is nothing but a stain on the Multiverse, and each time you are reborn, you bring more chaos! You should just do everyone a favor and kill yourself and save me the time of killing you and that demon that cursed you!" Vlish, Leader of the Council of Verse, spat at me, but I spit blood back into his face that had a mouth down the center of it.
"I will keep coming until you are dead. Remember? You did the same for the woman I loved and me!" I coughed out, but my life force was slipping from me, and the darkness was calling.
"I will come for your life, and you will die again!" Vlish hissed, but the darkness was already reaching its hands up and pulling cursed souls from my body.
It was time to start all over again and make the choice that would decide everything.
My name is Azriel, and I am a creature known as an Allgora. I am reborn every time that I die because of a promise that I made to a woman I loved. I promised that I would never rest until I got vengeance for the murder of my family and the person that taught me to become what I am reborn into every time.
A king, slayer, and lover of monsters. Each new life would have my mind covered with fog until I came close to death, and then my personality would return. The most important part was what was to come next.
The choice of my Queen. No matter what door I picked, the shell of the woman that I cursed by would be waiting for me. Depending on the door I picked would decide the personality of the shell and the place I would start in life. Each would know I was coming, so it was their job to prepare me a place to rule.
All of my past lives had started with nearly nothing, so I didn't really expect much. What I didn't understand were the doors. Why fog my mind and then give me a random choice? Why even give a choice at all?
So many questions that I would like to ask, but I always forget thoughts here, even when I do remember. I would have let out a sigh, but I had nobody, and the fog was starting to roll in. I just hoped that I actually learned something from this last life. Everything had been taken from me because I had done nothing but react with no preparation. I also needed to hold my anger in check, but that was easier said than done.
'I just wanted to finally finish this all,' was my last thought as the darkness finally swallowed me.
I awoke to darkness. It was disorienting, and my first instinct was to open my eyes, but I couldn't see anything, not even my hand in front of my face. I tried to calm myself down and think logically. There must be an explanation for this. Maybe I was just dreaming?
Suddenly, I felt something touch my leg, and I let out a yelp of surprise before scrambling away from the spot. If this was a dream, then why did that feel so real?
There was a deep chuckle from somewhere in the darkness, and then a voice spoke up. "Relax, Allgora. You are in no danger here." The voice had a strange cadence to it that I couldn't place.
"Where am I?" I asked, calming my body down.
"You are in my domain now," the voice replied. "We do this every time. You don't know who I am, but we are connected in death and once in life."
I scratched my head as I sat in the dark, trying to remember something, but my mind was almost like a blank slate. "What is the purpose of me being here now?" I asked warily.
"You will make a choice and choose your path," the voice said matter-of-factly. "You are cursed to live lives until you choose the right path."
I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. "And if I refuse?"
"There is no choice other than the choice. You can sit here forever if you want, but time will not start until you make your choice."
Somehow, that didn't make me feel any better. It sounded like this was going to be a lot harder than I thought. "So what do I have to do?"
"First, you must choose your path, weapon, and live," the voice said. "You will be given a choice of three."
I wanted to ask what that even meant, but with my mind being so blank, I don't even think I would have understood it then. I took a deep breath and tried to steady myself.
"What happens after I pick? What is the purpose of me being reborn?" I asked.
"You made a promise to get vengeance long ago to me, and I gave you a curse that would allow you to do it. You are a King, slayer, and lover of monsters, but there are people out there that think you are a danger to the Multiverse."
"Are they wrong?" I asked.
"No, but they have brought this upon themselves. Go forth now, my love. I will be waiting for you."
Suddenly, a bright light appeared in front of me, and I had to squint my eyes to see. Once my vision cleared, I was standing in front of three doors. Each one had a different symbol on it, and I had no idea what they meant.
The first on the right was red. The symbol on it was of a mountain. The center one was green, but it had what I assumed to be a city. I seemed to still have basic knowledge, but all my memories had been wiped clean. This must be some part of the rebirth. The last door on the left was blue, and there was a castle with a village in the symbol.
