Chapter 35: Sun and Moon
"Superpowers are something that is still beyond the comprehension of people. You may already know that, but mages don't get powers as radiation users, such as super speed, super power enhancement, and so on and so forth; the possibilities are endless.
The powers that mages get are related to elements of nature.
Our motherland planet, Talus, produces power from natural elements such as wind, earth, fire, lightning, light, and gravity.
In such wise, there's also the power of the dead: necromancy and the resurrection of the dead, which have never been heard of before, and they're practically impossible based on much more research than you can believe to have happened.
Finally, the power of the living: healing and protection.
That doesn't mean mages can't use those powers that awakeners get; it's quite common.
They can get enhancement, speed, and super senses, but all of that falls into one category: spells.
Spells are something common that every magician can use, regardless of their natural element or rank.
For example, a spell that enhances hearing, taste, the five senses, and the perception of a magician."
Seeing that everyone was listening attentively, the professor continued with satisfaction.
"But they could never reach a level beyond that of an ability user; it's generally weaker than an E-class awakener..."
Ding Dong-
"That's the end of class; everybody is dismissed. Have a nice day," Professor Ania said before closing the door behind her, leaving the classroom, and ending the lesson not a second late.
"Hey, you guys, did you hear the news?" The students who had been suppressing themselves for two full hours immediately gathered in groups and started to gossip.
"There is a newly transferred student."
"In the second year."
"What? The second year? And after the exams?"
"How come the second year? Who will transfer to the second year? That's unheard of."
"I heard he's super handsome."
"Yeah, I've seen him too; he's so fascinating," One of the girls spoke excitedly.
Everybody was puzzled about how he got in, but most of the gossip was focused on his appearance instead of how he got into the academy. Getting through connection wasn't unheard off albeit rare unless you came from a family so filthy rich that the president himself looked like a beggar in comparison. One must either possess either unimaginable wealth, power or connection to the headmaster in person.
"What are they talking about?" Ash approached the group that seemed uninterested and asked, completely oblivious to most news and gossip in the academy; his sole focus was on his training, a total muscle head.
"The new transfer student," Steve answered, sitting upright, his gaze fixated on the pages of the lecture file that the professor sent via email.
"A transfer student?" Ash asked again to confirm.
"Yes, a transfer student. He's... I don't know how to describe him; he's amazing according to girls," Kevin said lazily. Laziness adorned each word he uttered, looking like he was about to melt from boredom.
"How did he get transferred anyway?"
"I don't know, maybe a young master?" Kevin shrugged.
"A super young master with connections," Ash added with a grin, seeing that everyone was talking about the new guy. He wondered out loud. "I wonder if he's strong."
"That sounds fair, but who isn't a young master here?" Tracy asked in passing.
"Not everyone is rich here; a lot of students get admitted to the academy on a scholarship," Amanda answered.
"I didn't know that." Tracy looked in her mirror and commented casually, obviously not interested.
"Are you living under a rock?" Kevin said in disdain.
Tracy threw him a provoked glare, shattering the mirror in her hand to pieces.
"By the way, how do you keep adding makeup to that face without looking like a clown," Kevin asked, genuinely interested as he leaned forward, his lazy demeanor gone, replaced by a playful expression.
"Let's go eat; I'm hungry..." Tracy said with annoyance, slamming the table.
Kevin snickered.
Meanwhile, the chatter continued and whispers resounded throughout the entire academy, speculation about the new guy's identity and why he came to Erou was echoing everywhere.
The number of girls in the academy after the third year left was three times that of guys.
And the fan clubs that have formed since day one collapsed in an instant, forming around one central figure that appeared out of nowhere.
The extremely handsome boy that even Damion paled in comparison to; his kind, shy, naive, childlike persona attracted the mother nature in every girl. "Noah Cassier."
Entering the cafeteria, the first-year students found themselves blocked by a barrage of second-years.
"Wait a minute..." Jacob said, his hand trembling slightly, staring at the scene that unfolded before him. He questioned, his lips quivering, "Who is he?"
"Ryan," holding two trays filled with food to the brim, it looked like they weighed a few kilograms, Noah called for Ryan.
"I brought you food," Noah said enthusiastically as the crowd naturally made way for him, his smile brimming with happiness.
"He is my brother," Ryan answered, addressing Jacob's previous question.
"Thank you," he said to Noah.
"WH- AT!!!!"
"But you don't look alike."
"We're adopted; me, Ryan, and Grandpa don't share any blood relations," Noah answered, stuffing his mouth with food.
'This guy can really talk like a normal person,' Ryan thought, noticing that Noah didn't refer to himself in the third person like he did yesterday; he smiled a bit, feeling like he got scammed.
'Why is a minor villain doing it here… Forget about it, it doesn't matter.' Jacob sighed inwardly in defeat; he didn't even want to think about it anymore.
"That's not fair; I want a handsome brother like that too; this twin brother of mine is no fun." Kevin protested, "Let's exchange."
Slapppp—
Steve slapped Kevin on the back of his head, causing Kevin to jump up in shock, "Take it easy, easy; I was just kidding; geez, don't be so serious."
Steve rolled his eyes at him.
"Noah, is he really your brother?" Tracy asked, and blushed; her casual expression from before was long gone; Amanda had to elbow her, saying in a hushed voice, "Persona... persona," trying to get Tracy out of her stupor.
"Actually, I and Tracy are stepsisters as well," Amanda declared, shifting the attention toward her, seeing that Tracy was still in a daze.
"Really," Eddie commented.
"Ah... man, who even are you?" Amanda asked, clenching her chest, "You gave me a jump scare."
"It's me, Eddie." Eddie didn't mind since he stayed silent most of the time, "You don't have the same surname."
"Haha, sorry; you're always silent; I almost forgot about you." Amanda scratched her head in embarrassment, "It's true we are stepsisters; otherwise, why would I care about such an annoying menace? Her personality is intolerable."
'If I ditched the younger brother and went after the older brother, my reputation would certainly fall.' Tracy thought, uncaring of her step-sister's exposing their relationship in an attempt to help cover up the obvious desire on her face, 'I personally don't even like Ryan that much.'
"Urgh... Why am I even bothering with you." Amanda grumbled, twisting her mouth from side to side as she simply stood in front of Tracy, obscuring her view of the new student.
"Are you really brothers?" A girl approached Ryan and asked for confirmation.
"Ahem... where are my manners?" She proceeded to dust and fix the creases on her uniform before adding politely, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Sarah, Noah's class representative."
"We are siblings." Ryan nodded, and the girl soon left after not hearing anything more from him.
Ryan answered, introducing himself briefly, not interested in following through with the exchange since the girl seemed to know his identity, and he was correct that the girl was previously the head of Damion's fan club and had a vast knowledge of all the top handsome guys and their activity in the academy; she is known for being the girl that switched sides faster than a light switch whenever there is a more handsome guy in the area.
Besides, all his thoughts were focused on wanting to go back to his room and sleep, looking up at Damion, who was eating his food silently and didn't seem bothered in the slightest.
"OMG Kya."
Sitting next to Noah made the gazes on him to become more intense.
"Look at them; they look like... like... like..."
"The sun and The moon."
---
"Wow, did you see that? It sparkles so much. Noah likes shiny things." Meanwhile, the so-called moon of Erou Academy was happily using his new ability to hold various items toward the chandelier back in Ryan's room instead of going to his assigned dorm room."..." Ryan looked at the newly bought clothes, toiletries, and books scattered in a mess all over. None of those things were his, and Noah was only keeping the thing that sparkled under the light to himself and arranging it in a newly built wardrobe next to the newly bought twin sized bed that invaded his massive room.
His hope of getting a room for himself shattered away in an instant.
'Well, it's not that bad.'
