Chapter 6 - Chapter 7: New label for us and more problems??

Oct. 17th

I made sure to wake up a little earlier than usual and I didn't eat anything but one pop tart just in case Jake had brought something for me to eat. My dad did not have a happy look on his face when the doorbell rung because he knew who it probably was. My mom gave him a look as I grabbed my backpack then my phone before walking towards the door.

"Hey." Jake said smiling as I opened the front door.

"Hey." I said as I walked outside then closed the door behind me.

He saw I was wearing my jacket and he nodded his head.

"I have yours in my backpack to give back to you." I said as we walked towards his truck.

He opened the passenger door for me then I got in. I put my backpack down in the floorboard before buckling up.

"I don't want the jacket back. I have plenty you can keep it and wear it." Jake said as he backed out of the driveway.

I looked at him since I had already unzipped my backpack and had started to pull out his jacket.

"Do you want coffee or anything? We can park in their parking lot and talk for a little bit before school." He said before running his left hand through his hair.

"Sure." I said.

He nodded his head. When we got to Southern Delights, he got in the drive thru line and ordered both of us coffees then blueberry muffins. After we got our orders, he pulled the truck into a parking space before unbuckling and turning to face me.

"We've known each other a long time Abby." He said and I nodded my head before drinking some of my coffee.

"You know how I like to jump head first into things and don't look back." He said as I broke off a piece of my blueberry muffin.

"Is the way I'm acting around you scaring you? I know it probably seems I went from 0 to 100 in this new direction that we are going in but if you don't like how much I'm touching you or something let me know." He said.

"I just need some clarification on what we are." I said looking down at the coffee in my hands.

"Boyfriend and girlfriend; or at least in my mind that is what we are now, we have been on one date and I think that date was pretty successful even though the ending where I dropped you off at home wasn't that great." He said.

"And as my girlfriend, I want you to keep my jacket and feel free to wear it whenever." He said before tucking a strand of my hair behind my left ear then I looked up at him.

"Ok." I whispered nodding my head and he smiled at me.

He leaned forward a little bit then gave me a soft quick kiss.

"Alright let's get to school." He said turning back around then buckling back up.

The school day went by fast and I was surprised when 7th period/ softball practice ended and Jake wasn't at his truck when I got there. I leaned against the hood because I knew it was locked.

"Hey, sorry coach wanted to have a meeting after practice was over." Jake said 15 minutes later when he made it to his truck.

"It's fine." I said before walking around to the passenger side as he unlocked the truck.

"Do you want to hang out at my house?" He asked as he backed out of the parking space.

"I probably have to get that approved ahead of time now." I said and I saw him clench his right fist before shaking his head.

"So we only see each other at school now?" He asked in a mad voice as we got to the red light.

"It's just going to take my dad some time Jake. My mom is working on him I promise." I said and he just shook his head.

The rest of the ride to my house we didn't talk. When he parked the truck in the driveway, I unbuckled then he looked at me.

"The fair is in town this weekend; I want to take you to it. Can you ask your parents if you can go?" He asked.

"As a…" I started to say and he shook his head.

"As a date; yes Abby. What? Do I have to get it approved by you before calling something a date?" He asked in a mad voice.

"I was just trying to clarify it Jake so I know what to tell my parents." I said before grabbing my backpack then opening the truck door.

"Abby, I'm sorry it's just…" He started to say running his left hand through his hair.

"I know; I'll see you tomorrow." I said then I closed the door to his truck.

I walked away from his truck and I didn't hear him backing out of the driveway until I made it to the front door.

At supper, I told my parents about Jake wanting to take me to the fair on a date. My dad quickly said no and my mom told him, he needed to keep an open mind about this. My dad finally did give in but he said he wanted to talk to Jake again.

After taking a shower, I sat down on my bed with my back against my headboard before grabbing my phone to text Jake.

My parents said yes to you taking me to the fair but my dad wants to talk to you again. – Me

With or without a gun? – Jake

Never mind, I'll see if I can find something bullet proof to wear. – Jake

I don't think he would actually shoot you Jake. He would hate jail and he would be public enemy number 1 to your dad. – Me

Does your dad know? – Me

Yes, my dad knows about us. Can't tell if he is happy or not but he's keeping his opinion to himself which I expected no different. He hardly ever tells me what he thinks of the stuff I do. – Jake

You know he loves you. – Me

If you say so. – Jake

He just shows it differently and he has a stressful job Jake. – Me

Can you ask them if you can come over to the house tomorrow? – Jake

I'll ask in the morning; are you picking me up? – Me

I'll pick you up if that is what you want. – Jake

Sure but can we get donuts instead of blueberry muffins? – Me

Whatever you want Sweetheart. – Jake

Abby? – Jake

You still there? – Jake

I stared at what Jake called me for I don't know how long and I never did reply back to him. I went to sleep as soon as I put my phone back on the nightstand.
