Chapter 9 - Christopher the Deputy governor against Hudson

The year has begun to draw closer when Hudson's tenure will be over. With just a year left, it rang on many who have admired the post of the Alabama Governor, from different parties. Christopher, the incumbent vice president, had a seat talk with Liam in a quest to take the position after him.

"I know you have a longtime dream to place your daughter-in-law in this position, but the same position is also one in which I am interested." Said Christopher. The words sounded like thunder to Liam, who didn't see Christopher as one wanting the seat of the president from the onset.

He gently bring down his eyeglasses, to be sure it was Christopher speaking, "When do you conceive this thought and, though you couldn't say on time, fully know that Olivia is the one the party will present during the election?" He asked. "I will make her my deputy in order to keep your dream coming true," he replied, beside the party haven't conclude yet," he replied him.

"Isn't this sign of betraying? You are becoming a betrayer, which must be treated as quickly as possible. You and I know that if you step in there and show much interest in taking the position after me, you will surely have more support than Olivia, so I beg you, kill the ambitious and allow her rule the country for now." Hudson pleaded.

"Well, I have made up my mind, and I don't think I will go back on my decision, this is a game, and a game of luck. Republican must remain the party where I will be elected from." Christopher speaking with full confidence. "You know how dangerous I can be when it comes to this; I pray it should be a joke. Otherwise, you wouldn't like to see the real aspect of this. I choose you as my vice does mean I had the intention to replace you when am done with my tenure, No, rather you go with me. And where you choose to take the position, then decamp from the Republican, because it will be hot for you, if you try riding shoulder with me." Hudson warned him.

It was just as if the table was about turning against Hudson, if Christopher, who he knew vividly to be the heart of the people and was one of the major reasons he was elected, should now dream or speak of becoming the next Governor after him. Hudson kept looking at him, wondering what manner of human Christopher had turned out to be. "I have to take my leave now, your excellency; I only came to speak out my intention and to let you know of my interest in the position.Have a good day, sir," he said with a smile.

Christopher was still on his way home when Hudson called him to confirm if he was the one he spoke just of recent. The fact remains that Christopher and have drawn interest in becoming president. As Hudson got home, he was a bit restless, but he believes in one thing: that his power as the incumbent president will sure guarantee him the chance of placing his choice when he steps down.

Just a second later, Olivia and Jonathan stepped in, seeing him unhappy, and they tried to know what the real cause was. But he refuses to tell them the truth; he only claimed to a little illness and needed to rest. When Olivia reminded him of the fast preparation for election, he sat her down and began to tell her how he had won the heart of the top official and citizen ready to vote her in.

She should just be awaiting the release of the ticket as to buy hers when is out.

Olivia was really happy. She felt joy to have a father-in-law that really cares about her fulfilling her dream, without the idea that someone, the heart of the country, is out to contest. Just as Hopeton was a quiet man and like to be private in his action, he did not make much noise instead he awaited the time needed to strike, when he could come out openly without interruption. " How will she feel when I tell her about Christopher interest of becoming the Governor? My God, this is the heart of the people; even without him saying a word, the whole masses will vote him in. And when he is successfully elected, Olivia will see me as a betrayer and coward. What must I do now is not late?"He asked himself in his heart. Just as he became surprised in his office, the shock still ran around him. "I think the young man is playing, because I have been into this for long, and my family will continue to be there." He encourages himself.

"Is anything the matter, father?" Jonathan asked, seeing how he was mean with his thoughts and look "All is fine, my children, just the little illness." He replied. Jonathan asked if he could call the family doctor so as to attend to him. "Don't worry, I will be fine. Just go and keep enjoying yourself." He added. At this junction, Jonathan reveals to him how he has been confronted and disturbed by his mother, the first lady, about Olivia not being able to conceive after a year of marriage. The constant disturb really trouble Samuel and little to Olivia, while on the other hand, Olivia knows what really makes her unable to conceive. "What we should be concerned about now is the election; she can just as well have kids while ruling." He paused and drew closer to the couple, searing at their middle with his hand on their shoulders, he said "I see the sky glittery for Hudson family, whether there are children or not; the best is to keep the family going for now; children will come with time." He "I am not really against Olivia, my wife, becoming the next Alabama Governor; in fact she have my full support, but my paramount concern is that we have kids that will continue just as you have said." Jonathan spoke up. Olivia, seating, trying to raise up issue. "This is the reason why I prefer Charles to you; you are always about your selfish interests and not the interests of the family. Look here, young man, I own you nothing, but you do own me. Give me your full support and believe that children come from God. She cunningly spoke. Liam's supported her, by saying,"She is right."

"Why am I wasting my time here speaking with you both? You both are birds of the same feather, excuse me." He hissed and made his way in.

"This wasn't what we bargained for; he is supposed to support me, not the other way around." Olivia lamented to Liam, as soon as Jonathan left their present. "If I lose this election, I won't forgive your family." She vow. Hudson continued pleading with her to remain calm while he tried working things out for her.
