The sound of the alarm kept buzzing. It was already noon, and Victoria could barely shift her body from her sleeping position. The alarm rang continuously in her ears but she was too weak to move from her spot. The aftermath of what happened earlier had left her disoriented and the effect of the drugs was still kicking in her system by the time she got to her apartment. She cried bitterly all morning and felt overly embarrassed by herself for falling into a trap that was set up by the same man who had persistently been throwing advances toward her. She couldn't believe herself, she blamed herself for being a fool for not recognizing his true intentions when he called her over to his hotel at an unofficial hour, it didn't cross her mind that the senator might stoop so low to do something like that or cross the line. She wept continuously until there was no ounce of strength in her anymore, then she passed out.
A few hours later, the buzzing sound of the alarm woke her, she felt a slight headache rush through her head as if she had been hit with a hammer. She groaned while she managed to shift her body toward the direction of the drawer beside the bed. Her hand searched for the alarm buzzer on top of the drawer and it knocked it off to the ground. The buzzing sound stopped after. Her hands kept searching the top of the drawer while her face was still buried in the pillow, she managed to grab her phone without knocking it off and then brought it to her side. A text appeared on her phone a few seconds later, she didn't move at first until after the second text entered, and then entered another, simultaneously. She grabbed the phone from her side and brought it to her face, she tapped the screen display and it unlocked. The text appeared on the screen;
Grace: Hey, are you okay??. *shocked emoji*
Grace: What happened?? I've been trying to reach you all morning
Grace: I could hear your voice break down on the phone call earlier. Explain to me what has happened, please!
Victoria swiped her phone off and threw it on the other side of the mattress. She rolled over her side and lifted herself to a sitting position, her head was still banging and the headache traveled from her head downwards causing her heartache. She felt heartbroken. Her hair was all roughed up and strands of hair covered her face. She stretched forth her hand to grab the phone she threw away, she swiped on the screen display to reply to the text.
Victoria: Can't talk on the phone.
Victoria: I'm back in my apartment. Come over after your shift.
She dropped her phone on the bed and stood up from where she was sitting and headed toward the bathroom.
Victoria's friend came over to her apartment later in the evening and she told her everything that happened with the senator. Her friend had tried to console her, the following day; Victoria went over to the police bureau to report the case to her uncle who was the current head of the crime unit department in the police force, her case was transferred to the gender unit responsible for investigating sexual assault cases, domestic violence and other related offenses.
However, during the investigations; according to the victim's statement, a drug-induced test was conducted to detect any sign of drug substance in her body system and the toxicology report came out positive, it showed signs of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as MDMD or Molly, ingested into her body system which correlated to the estimated time of the incident in victim's statement.
Although the evidence was not deemed substantial enough to be submitted to the court of law, no eye witness could verify that the victim was at the hotel at the time of the incident. The police had questioned the hotel receptionist and attendants on duty at the hotel that day but they all denied seeing her at the hotel. The police also went further to investigate the security camera footage of the hotel that could have placed her at the hotel but all to no avail. There was no evidence that a meeting occurred between the victim and the perpetrator except for the call log on the victim's cell phone that indicated that the perpetrator had made a call to the victim thirty minutes before the time of the incident as stated by the victim.
Chief inspector of police Sunday Williams personally took the case into his hands as it was personal to him. The victim was a relative of his. However; Senator Bade was a powerful figure that had many connections with the higher-ups in the police force which he had made some calls, and sooner or later; chief inspector Sunny was ordered to drop the case as a result of inconclusive evidence that the suspect of the case was indeed the perpetrator. This infuriated Sunny the more; he wanted to get to the root of the case due to his stubbornness and his ill feelings towards the senator. His niece had been victimized by the senator and he couldn't do much about it.
Victoria who was the victim of the sexual assault case was engaged to her fiancé at that time. Although, he did not know about what had happened to his fiancée as he had been on a business trip overseas. Victoria couldn't come to disclose herself to him because she was afraid that her fiancé whom she was supposed to be getting married would see her differently if he comes to find out the truth that his betrothed had been sexually assaulted by another man. It would bring shame to him or better yet his family, and she couldn't bring herself to the idea of losing her fiancé to that.
The following day; Victoria's fiancé announced to her that he was going to return earlier from his business trip to focus on the preparations for the wedding. She was perplexed by the sudden change in the situation. There was still an ongoing investigation on her case as assured by her uncle, and she had quit her job. How was she going to prevent him from finding out? The thought of that rummaged through her mind while she sat on her knees while she read through the text she just received from her fiancé, she was confused and sad. She knew she had to do something because she wanted the senator to pay for what he had done to her, so she decided to approach him at his office. On getting to his office, she realized a new secretary had been hired in her absence in just a short amount of time. She looked at the light-skinned young lady in her mid-twenties pitifully and the lady didn't seem to understand the way or why she was being looked at. Victoria approached the receptionist's desk with a furious look on her face;
'Excuse me, ma'am. How may I help you?' The fair lady at the counter said
'I'm here to see the Senator' Victoria said
'Well, do you have an appointment with him?' The lady mischievously asked
'No, but I'm here to see the senator! And I'm not going to leave here until he sees me' Victoria blurted out causing a scene for passersby to stare at.
'Ma'am, I'm sorry, but you can't see the senator right now unless you have an appointment with him. If you could please....'
'I don't care if he is expecting me or not, call him right now and tell him Victoria is here and I'm not going to leave until he sees me, or else the whole world is going to know the bastard for who he is' she cuts in.
Then, the other lady who just stood there watching attempted to make a call, she briefly spoke with someone on the phone while Victoria and the other fair lady seemed to be engaging in a form of banter. Then a few seconds later, she whispered something to the other lady's ears. The other lady rudely spoke to Victoria but Victoria didn't pay much attention to her as she hissed.
'You can go in now! She spoke while she rolled her eyes. Victoria didn't bother to respond, she walked out of their presence and headed toward the corner of the senator's office. He was sitting on the small couch, fidgeting his fingers on a lighter in a habitual manner. Victoria barged in without knocking, and their gaze met each other for the first time since the incident. She looked at him with total contempt. He looked calm and composed with his legs crossed over one another, he then let out a small crooked smile from the curve of his lips, and then said;
'Hello, Victoria'.
