"Is it morning already?" Lin Biao muttered as he emerged from his slumber, feeling surprisingly refreshed.
"I don't remember the last time I slept so peacefully." As he rose from the bed, he made his way towards the bathroom to prepare for the day ahead. However, as he lifted his gaze and locked eyes with the person in the mirror, he was struck with disbelief.
"How is this possible?" He nearly shouted in astonishment.
No, he was not shocked because instead of his usual reflection he saw a new face, he had not forgotten that he had transmigrated into a new body after a night of sleep.
What shocked him was it was a face that he clearly remembers, the sharp jawline, the eyes adorned with a deep shade of brown, and the lustrous black hair.
It was him from the previous life.
As he observed himself, he couldn't help but notice the slight difference in his physique. The body before him was leaner, a result of no longer being part of the army.
Yet, there was still an undeniable aura of strength and athleticism in his posture, a testament to the physical discipline he had maintained for the last 3 years, reasons aside disciplined efforts had paid off, sculpting a body that exuded power and resilience.
"What is this? I remember in the manhua it was a different person. The Lin Biao there did not look like me." Confusion clouded his features, mingling with a sense of relief that he had not displaced or harmed an innocent(?) or at least an uninvolved person. It also brought him comfort, knowing that he would continue to live in his own familiar body.
"People can form attachments to things and animals they spend time with. How could I not care about my own body? Having the same soul in a different body is acceptable, at least one is still alive. But the best scenario is having the same soul and possibly the same body," he contemplated.
"Well, I suppose I really am lucky," he muttered to himself. But amidst the thoughts, a question arose: "Does this mean that the past mistakes of the person inhabiting this body were, in a way, my mistakes as well? Well, whatever the case may be, I don't care, at least not now."
After composing himself, he continued with his morning routine, meticulously selecting an all-black ensemble that exuded sophistication. With his sleek suit shoes complementing his attire, he emanated a charismatic and confident aura, drawing attention wherever he went. Fully prepared for the day ahead, he made his way to the main hall, intending to have breakfast.
Upon entering the main hall, he realized that his family had already departed for their respective responsibilities. Although this side of their operations was not their primary focus, there were still tasks to be attended to.
Opting to have breakfast alone, he requested a maid to bring him his meal and settled into a comfortable seat. As he patiently waited, the door swung open, and Leng Xue gracefully entered the room, capturing his attention with her presence.
He noticed she was a bit different toady.
Everything about her remained the same – from her official guard uniform to her shoulder-length black hair styled in a unique manner that exuded a sense of both lethality and freedom.
Her mystical red eyes, ignited with an intense fierceness, captured attention with their unwavering gaze. It was evident that she had diligently honed her physical prowess, as her well-trained and maintained body emanated a sense of power and control.
In her presence, there was an undeniable aura that signified her mastery in all that she pursued. Her entire persona emanated an air of strictness and fearlessness, leaving an indelible impression on those who encountered her.
But to his keen observation, it appeared that her eyes held a slightly brighter gleam than the day before. How he managed to notice such a subtle change, even he couldn't explain.
"Good morning, young master. How are you?" Xue greeted him with her usual professionalism.
"Well, good morning to you, too. I'm feeling quite fine, actually. Had a good night's sleep for a change," Biao replied with a hint of satisfaction.
"You do seem rather energetic today," Xue remarked, her voice carrying a slight undertone of curiosity.
"Yeah, you could say that," Biao responded, trying to downplay any significant changes.
"And a bit different also," Xue added, emphasizing the words with a deliberate pause, signaling her intention to discuss something important.
Biao sighed inwardly, knowing that this conversation was inevitable. He had expected his parents to question him first, but considering the amount of time he had spent with Xue, it made sense that she would notice the changes more keenly.
"Do you dislike the changes, though?" he asked, skirting around the direct question.
"Not at all, but it is peculiar. As your bodyguard, it's my duty to understand any concerns or issues you may have," Xue replied, her gaze fixed on him.
"I suppose so, but to be honest, I don't have the answers to the questions you want to ask. The sudden transformation, the timing, and perhaps more," Biao admitted, his voice a little confused.
After a brief pause, he continued, still uncertain, "If you had asked me last night, I might have said I knew the answers but wouldn't share them. But right now, I'm just as confused as you are. I don't really know, at least not yet."
As Biao spoke, Xue observed him intently, as if trying to decipher the truth behind his words. After hearing his response, she let out a sigh and said, "Young master, although I don't fully understand what troubles you have or what has happened, I can say one thing for certain—you are still the same young master."
"What...?" Biao couldn't help but feel puzzled by her words.
"While you may be vastly different from the person you were yesterday, you have become kinder, stronger, more determined, and wiser. These changes and the uncertainty surrounding them—I believe I have seen glimpses of this within you before, just hidden beneath the surface," Xue explained, her tone carrying a mix of certainty and empathy.
"What are you trying to say?" Biao asked, his curiosity piqued, yet still unsure of what she was getting at but sure of one thing that, these were the words he needed to hear, that yes he is not someone different.
"I'm sorry, even I am not fully sure of what I'm saying. But what I do know is that I am not lying," Xue concluded, her words leaving Biao with a mix of intrigue, relief and a lingering sense of mystery.
"Xue, I appreciate your honesty and your unwavering dedication as my bodyguard," Biao replied gently.
By now, breakfast had arrived and after being done with it, now it was time for Biao to head to his company.
He and Xue made their way to the garage, where his sleek black Lamborghini Aventador awaited them, perfectly matching their stylish outfits. Biao couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as he anticipated trying out his newfound driving skills, a gift from the mysterious system that had granted him extraordinary abilities.
Sliding into the driver's seat, Biao felt an instant connection with the powerful machine. The car seemed to be an extension of his own body, as if they were in perfect sync. The knowledge and experience of driving this magnificent vehicle flooded his mind, leaving him with a profound sense of mastery.
"Xue, ask the others not to follow me today," Biao commanded, his voice filled with a quiet confidence.
"Why, young master?" Xue inquired, her curiosity piqued.
"Because they won't be able to catch up," Biao replied with a mischievous grin, his eyes sparkling with determination.
As soon as he exited the villa's main gates, he ignited the engine, and the Lamborghini roared to life. In an instant, they were off, racing through the streets with unimaginable speed. Biao effortlessly weaved through the traffic, his control and precision surpassing even Xue's own driving skills. It was as if he had become one with the car, his movements fluid and instinctual.
Xue, seated beside him, could only hold on tight, her heart pounding with a mix of exhilaration and astonishment. She had been driving since the age of 12 and had trained under various professionals, but what she witnessed now exceeded anything she had ever experienced. All she could do was offer a silent prayer for their safety and hope they reached the company quickly.
The streets blurred past as Biao effortlessly maneuvered through the urban landscape. The car's speed was matched only by his unwavering focus and control.
Biao's reflexes were razor-sharp, his eyes scanning the road ahead with intense focus. With every twist and turn, he anticipated the trajectory, maneuvering the powerful machine with a dancer's grace.
The system not only provided driving skills but spatial and traffic awareness, along with this he also got knowledge of some really complex traffic rules, though he was breaking those without a concern.
His senses became hyper-attuned, allowing him to anticipate the flow of traffic, the slightest change in the road surface, and the subtlest shift in the air currents.
The cityscape transformed into a playground of speed and precision. Biao effortlessly weaved through narrow gaps, threading the needle between vehicles with hair's breadth precision.
The Lamborghini hugged the curves of the road, its sleek body gliding effortlessly, as if defying the laws of physics.
As they neared the company, Biao gradually eased off the accelerator, bringing the car to a smooth stop. The Lamborghini's engine purred contentedly, a testament to the exhilarating journey they had just embarked upon.
Xue looked at Biao in awe, her eyes reflecting a mix of admiration and astonishment. "Young master, I have never witnessed such extraordinary driving skills," she finally managed to say, her voice filled with genuine respect.
Biao smiled, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. 'It seems the system has gifted me more than just physical enhancements. I now possess the skills of a true master behind the wheel.'
With their hearts still racing from the adrenaline-filled drive, Biao and Xue stepped out of the car and made their way towards the company entrance.
