Alen's memory was jogged by the quest notification. It was the one about the vengeful ghost who wished to kill the former nobleman's wife, the one who had caused her to witness her child's agonizing death from starvation. Alen felt a connection between the ghost's thirst for vengeance and his own. Abruptly applying the brakes, the bike came to a halt, and Alen swiftly dismounted, already making his way toward the woods.
He had stopped the bike just shy of reaching the third wall, leaving the rest to Eve. When she realized she was still alive, she quickly turned to confront Alen.
"What's with the reckless driving?!" she exclaimed; her anger evident. But to her surprise, he didn't respond. He didn't even turn back to acknowledge her. She swiftly dismounted the bike and rushed over to Alen.
"Hey, what's wrong?" she asked, getting in his way. Suddenly, her heart sank as she met his gaze. It sent chills down her spine. This wasn't the friend she knew at all.
