Chapter 14 - I plan to escape

Deka's jaw dropped in shock when he saw the lightning leave Ava's hand and strike the tree.

Slowly moving back, he looked at Ava, "How…. How did you do that?" The question fell from his mouth.

Still, with a neutral look on her face, Ava responded, "I just do… I woke up yesterday and figured I could control the electricity inside me".

Feeling overwhelmed, Deka grabbed Ava's hand, "Come on!" He yelled as he ran.

"Why are you.. what about the plant we were supposed to pick?".

"Don't worry about that, I have to get you to Miss Rachel first".

Mark brought Ava back to the orphanage and told Rachel about what he witnessed Ava do.

Rachel was shocked when she heard Ava emitted lightning out of mid-air, which should be impossible for her age.

Rachel called Ava into her room so she could run a few tests on her.

She grabbed Ava's hand and used an empty syringe to pull out a bit of blood from Ava's hand.

"Uhn? Miss Rachel, why are you taking my blood?" Ava asked.

Rachel put up with the blood and placed it in a small seal of nylon before she saved it inside the briefcase beside her.

"Ava… do you remember anything before you came here?" Rachel raised her question, which was her attempt to understand what was going on.

Ava paused, looking to the ground as she found it hard to reply to what Rachel asked her.

"Look at me, Ava, I'm trying to help you hear… the monster's virus is very tricky… you might end up just like them if we don't take care of this soon." Rachel reassured, trying to get Ava to speak.

Slowly raising her head, Ava replied, "I remember the Xynoin holding me in its hand and..".

"The Xynoin, how did it look like?" Rachel threw another question at Ava.

"Well, it was big, probably bigger than this building, and it had no face but a very big mouth, that's about all I can remember." Ava explained.

"If it's big, then it must be a middle-class Xynoin and those don't have the patience to inject their victims…" Rachel muttered to herself with her hand resting on her jaw as she continued.

"Considering the lightning abilities you have, it must either be an Upper class or an S class… Either way, for you to survive their fluids at such a young age… that's very impressive." Rachel set her eyes on Ava as she continued blabbing.

"I don't know what that means, Miss Rachel." Ava suddenly uttered.

Rachel looked at her and smiled, "Don't worry about it, if you feel any changes, be sure to come meet me, okay?".

"I will" Ava replied, as she stood to her feet, she carelessly caught a glimpse of a list of children in the orphanage beside Rachel, and some names were ticked with red.

She exited the room only to see her friends and Mark standing at the entrance with nervous looks on their faces.

"Ava!" Ichigo cried out before she launched herself on Ava with a big hug, "Ohh, I thought you were going to die".

"What happened? Did Miss Rachel say something's wrong with you?" Mira asked questions of her own.

"Relax." Ava pulled out Ichigo's arm from her neck before she moved back, "She said I'm fine".

"What about the… you know powers you have now?" Mark asked, he was standing at the back, peeking at Ava from afar.

"She didn't say anything about that, so I'm taking that as a no problem, I'm tired, I have to sleep, bye." Ava walked away without saying any other word.

Ava proceeded to her room and shut the door before sitting on the bed with a profound look on her face as she was recollecting the names she saw on the paper.

Amongst the names that were ticked with red marks, were Yuichi Kamina, Mira Yuigahama, and Mark Cabell.

For some reason, Ava's vision was so good that she also picked up on the little writing at the bottom of the paper that said, [5 cursed kids needed… 15,000$ exchange].

'Is she planning to sell Yuichi?' Ava thought to herself, looking outside the window and glancing at the bright sun that was still shining outside.

'I guess I wasted more time than I should have… if what it is true and they are planning to sell Yuichi… then I can't risk staying here another day'.

Ava went to her knees and yanked out a bag that was filled with food that she had been preserving for days from under the bed.

She knew a day would come when she would have to run away with Yuichi, but she never expected it to be soon.

And since Ava didn't know the exact day they planned to do their trade, in order not to take any risk, Ava planned to move out in the night.

She already had everything she needed: food, water, and a couple of free passes that she had stolen from Rachel's room a while back.

Even though Ava didn't know how to use it after Mark told her about how to enter District 6, one needed a pass, she knew it would come in handy.

While she was packing, the door to her room suddenly opened and Mira walked in with a boy with her.

"Ava, what are you doing?" Mira asked, walking in before she closed the door.

Ava paused, but after taking a deep breath she looked at Mira, "I consider you to be my friend, so I'll leave you with a little advice, leave this place as soon as you can".

Ava took the bag and placed it on the bed before zipping it aggressively.

"Leave? Why would I want to leave?" Mira muttered, feeling confused about what Ava said.

"It's your choice." Ava responded, "As for me, I'm leaving tonight, I hate risks." She tightened the bag and hurled it over to the window so she could throw it outside.

But before she could let go of the bad, Mira held Ava's arm with a serious look on her face, "No more secrets Ava, what is really going on… you owe me that much".
