Chapter 135 - Blood and Water

As a child, Sarah had always wondered what they really meant by 'great' Families. She thought it just referred to those families that were always seen in stories as being rich and powerful. When she officially joined the Inquisition, or rather starting actual work, she was told they were the most powerful in terms of licht energy. She never believed it though, as she herself had never seen anyone close to their level. She had seen Blake fight, but since he was adopted, she pushed it to the side. Sure, Klaus Alderwolf was strong and he had a presence of his own, but she had never seen him fight.

She now understood why.

As Miles had once told her, if you're in a fight with any of them, whether they were related to the Great families or part of them, run. What he didn't say was that you really did not have any other option than to run.

Sarah ducked behind another car as the first one was sliced into two. She escaped out to the open, spraying a flurry of her technique to block his view, but the young Alderwolf scattered them as he jumped right in front of him. Sarah clenched her fist as the bugs closed in on him. The boy opened up his palm and the rush of licht energy that was instantaneously released forced Sarah to retreat. The bugs were shredded into fine powder.

Whatever he was doing, it wasn't his technique. But she still couldn't make it out either. Was it wind manipulation? A slicing technique? A third strike came her way, forcing Sarah to jump in the air. It was then that the boy used his technique, as a blade of blood embedded itself into her arm. Sarah was forcibly pulled towards him.

Once close enough, Sarah spat out a swarm of licht bugs into Koning's face. The blinded Koning managed to block Sarah's kick which was aimed for his face. He stood up, muttering under his breath as the wounds on his face healed up.

"My turn." Koning said, pulling the blade out of her leg. Sarah limped backwards onto the street. There was a sound of an incoming truck, honking at her. Now was her chance. She could use this to escape.

A little longer. Just a few seconds more. Now…

Her legs did not respond. She stood motionless as the truck swerved out of the way, the driver hurtling insults her way.

"The Alderwolf family is divided into two branches. The main family and the Branch family." Koning explained. "The first one has the blessing of the Chapters of Blood technique. The branch family, which is my side of the family, can't learn it. What we can do is to control the blood of others, as long as we taste it."

"That's… gross."

"Yeah." Koning said, motioning her to come. Although she tried, her body moved on its own, walking up to him on the curb before coming to a full stop.

"Game over."

"You okay?" Brandon asked. Jacques opened his eyes, shocked that he was still alive.

"Ye…yeah." He said, breathing a sigh of relief. "Thanks."

Prince was annoyed by the new intruder. Just as he had the chance to end the life of a murderer, an inquisitor stepped in. He didn't fancy fighting them, especially Brandon Pratt. The intel received was that he was innocent. He also wasn't that strong though, but still, he was in the way.

"Move." Prince said, "My fight's with him."

"I can't do that."' Brandon said splitting the nunchaku. "He's an inquisitor.'

"Him? This murderer? The Inquisition's standards have really dropped then."

"You can't lecture us on standards when you've been around for so long and let a daemon incident happen under your watch."

Prince looked at him confused. Brandon grinned.

"You're not the only one with information."

"Enough of this." Prince said, producing balls of water around him. Swiftly, he shot them up in the air and let them fall with full speed to the ground. Brandon blocked each and every one of the droplets, closing the distance between him and Prince. Prince shot a wave of water at Brandon, pushing Brandon back as he headed for Jacques. He stopped immediately as one of the batons in Brandon's hand flew past his face. Prince raised a wall of water between them as Brandon attacked with the other baton.

"You guys have really gone too far." Brandon said. Prince collapsed the wall of water into a compressed ball, thowing it at Brandon. Brandon deflected it, rolling to the side to grab his other baton, avoiding the wave of water.

"Our goals are beyond you."

"That include killing him?"

"Its personal."

Brandon smiled, Putting the batons back together, extending it and taking it apart, forming his three cross sectioned staff.

"Seems like your management really needs a makeover."

"SHUT UP!!" Prince cried, thrusting blades of water at Brandon. Brandon blocked each of them expertly, spinning round as he closed the distance once again. Striking the ground, Brandon swung the staff upward, missing Prince by a few inches and sending him flying backwards with a taste of his own medicine.

Prince staggered backwards, holding his bleeding arm. "Damn you."

"Had me fooled for a while, but it really was licht energy you were changing to water." Brandon said, "But the flow was all over the place."

The flow? Odd. The flow of licht energy was not something one could see. Aura, yes, but flow? That was like checking to see the flow of blood in the human body. Unless…Jacques shook his head. It wasn't something that a young lad like Brandon could achieve. Even if he was Barry's student, Barry himself couldn't achieve it.

Prince fired more blades of water, all of which were blocked by Brandon. Brandon tried to close the distance again but Prince had learned his lesson, drawing a wall of water between them and firing a blade of water through the barrier. Brandon barely dodged, getting cut in his shoulder. Prince went on the offensive this time, landing a punch on Brandon and following it up with a kick on his chest. Forming a whip of water, Prince span it round Brandon and drew him closer.

Just as he was about to land the finishing blow, Brandon countered, headbutting Prince. Without further delay, Brandon attacked him from every direction, not stopping for a moment until Prince was on his knees.
