Chapter 99 - Wrath that Drowns the Soul

The once glorious city of Belgrade was nothing but a warzone.

A crater were majority of the town once stood, a trail of destroyed earth, with more being lifted off the earth, and to its left a bombarded burning city. All that and the White city was still not done.

Donna and Diego stood side by side, with Valerie, Kai and Kanon behind them. The smell of smoke and the heat bothered them but there was nothing to do about that. It was between the inconvenience of fire or the being lifted into the heavens.

A single flash of light appeared in the sky, high above the White city, signaling to Donna and Diego. The two nodded each other and Donna stepped forward, blade in hand. Rather than performing her dance, Donna simply stood still, with her hands raised. She spun round once, unleashing a splatter of liquid from the hems of her dress. The liquid slowly began to flow downwards, towards the city of white circling round it and round it until the entire city was surrounded by a black circle. Hands then sprouted out from the black circle, reaching out to the sky and towering over the city. The hands descended downwards, slamming the city onto the ground.

"Silhouettes. Hues. Shades. Shadows. Tints. Draw a perfect black before my eyes. Unleashing a darkness like never before, and open the gates of all that is beautiful."

The hands rose up again, clasping the hands adjacent to each other. A black circle began to thread through them, and in the center of the newly formed circle, a ball of black ink formed, opening up to reveal a figure of a man.

Donna spat out blood as she continued. "Man from the void, cast into the shadows, formed without a face, nor given a name. I implore you to release your shadows." Donna brought her sword down, striking the Earth. "Oscuridad."

The same circle on Donna's back appeared on the black figure as it descended in the city, haphazardly slashing and crushing any and everything it saw in the white city. Several daemon emerged from the ground, propelling themselves towards the black figure. But no matter how many times the figure was destroyed, it only reformed again to continue its mayhem. Anything its black tendrils touched was slashed and anywhere it walked was tainted.

"Now's our chance." Kyler said to Martha. Martha nodded. Using Donna, they had managed to sneak right under the city. The pull was strong and crushing, and the three barely managed to hold their ground.

"Ready when you are." Jhin said. The three left go of their only stable support, moving through the floating masses of earth, metal and bark. With Martha taking the lead, she realized what the daemon was doing. It was converting mass into pure energy. She was right to go after it immediately. If left alone, this sin would be unstoppable.

Drawing out her sword, she set it ablaze, pointing it directly at the daemon's eye. The surface around the eye slowly began to decolorize, changing from pure white to bright yellow. Almost immediately, deep cuts appeared all over the decolorized parts. The pupil began to wriggle around haphazardly

"Have a load of this." Martha cried as she shot a barrage of blue flame right into the eye. The eye shut immediately, leaking out black blood. Objects in the air, including them began to fall to the Earth with rapid speed. Jumping from one object to the other, the three made it to safety, out of range of the collapsing debris.

From where they stood, Diego and Donna could see the explosion and all the debris fall. They could see the smoke that slowly rose. But the city was still on course, headed towards them, ignoring the damage they had dealt.

"Donna! Reactivate your technique!" Diego ordered. But Donna didn't reply as she fell to her knees, blood flowing from her ears, eyes, nose and mouth. She had reached her limit. And so had Valerie.

"Martha, we need you to launch another attack!" Diego commanded over the comms.

"Somethings wrong sir." Kyler said, "the city...its breaking apart. Its changing form."

"Changing form?" Diego exclaimed.

"That's impossible." Kai said, "According to Kael, evolved phantoms cannot change form. Its structure is too hard for that to be possible."

"Didn't know that you actually cared about such stuff." Valerie said as Kanon helped her up. "But what if it already had that form from the get go."

Diego glanced at her. "What?"

"The daemon could have already had that form from the start. Like an origami. Its folded up but once you open it up..."

"...its just a piece of paper." Donna finished her sentence for her. "Dammit."

Unfortunately, Valerie was not wrong. Martha, Kyler and Jhin watched, while running, as the sin slowly began to open up from underneath. The black hands dissipated as arms and legs sprouted from the city, tilting and turning, breaking apart and reattaching itself.

From its long legs to its head, monstrosity screamed out. Starting from the eyeless face, with a mouth that had a hanging tongue lined with the faces of skulls. descending down to its chest that had an eye on it with two pupils, its long arms were made of long tentacles, all lined with skulls as well. Its legs were no different, with each step shaking the very earth.

The sin of Wrath had truly awoken now.
