Chapter 91 - Chains

It started with a distress call.

Miles walked up the stairs, his hands in his pocket, yawning. He looked at his other comrades, who sat watching him approach them, a smirk on Heinrich's face.

"Okay. what's up?"

"I told you he walks like that." Heinrich said.

"Walks like what?" Miles asked.

"Nothing, hahaha!" Heinrich laughed. Miles shook his head.

"I'm guessing we're done with this section, right?" Owen asked, "Judging from the blood on your shoes."

"Hopefully." Miles answered, "Can't be to careless."

"We should meet up with Mize." Heinrich said, "I want to see if he wet his pants."

"Mize is a big guy. He can handle himself." Owen said. "Personally, I don't want to meet that other squad."

"Why?"

"Agatha."

Miles turned to face Owen. "What's her deal anyway? She's always menacing, frowning and ruining the mood. Twice last week I couldn't eat because of what I overheard from her."

"They say she's been that way since the last daemon incident."

"Hey, it was just three cities that got attacked." Heinrich said, "Not a world tour like this one."

"Exactly, kid." Owen said, "That's what made it bad. Boston, Johannesburg and Berlin."

"Um... Miles, you're red X is blinking."

Miles immediately pressed it. "This is the Voskov unit, we've received your distress signal. Send us your location immediately."

"THIS IS....OFF THE STREETS NOW!!!"

"What?! Repeat what you said!"

"GET OFF...NOW!!"

The distress signal died down. Miles looked at Owen, confused.

"Who's unit was that?" Heinrich asked.

"Dunno. Signals not clear enough."

"Recognise the voice?"

"Barely. I'm stuck between Agatha or Ursula."

"Mize..."

"Don't jump to conclusions, Heinrich. It could have been anyone."

"I know." Heinrich said.

"For now lets get off the streets..."

A loud drum sound resounded in the distance. Forcing them all to stop. Getting into position, they stood their ground, waiting for the worst.

"This was just like last time." Heinrich said

"I know." Miles replied.

"What do we do, boss?" Owen asked.

"Hey, don't ask me. I'm as clueless as you guys are." The trio slowly made their way towards a shop. Heinrich tried to open it but it wouldn't budge.

"Dammit."

"Take this." Owen said, handing him a thick needle.

"What am I, a professional thief?"

"Yes."

"Fine, fine."

"So, they tell you anything specific?" Owen asked Miles.

"No, just to get off the streets."

"Well, that's odd."

"I know, right?

A sharp gust of wind blew past them.

"Don't suppose it'd rain, huh?"

"I actually like the rain." Miles replied.

"That's just one of us. Hey hurry it up, Heinrich." Owen said, "The breeze was chilly."

"Do you think they'd still be alive?"

"Hard to know. They could be also gravely injured and we'll never know about it."

"True."

"What do you think, Heinrich..."

Owen froze as he opened his eyes wide, processing what was in front of him. The only thing that was there was a single arm that was attached to the door handle. Miles turned and staggered backwards. The two followed the trail of blood that led to a bus, were their friend lay unconscious.

"Heinrich!" Owen cried as he rushed towards him.

"OWEN STOP!!!" Miles cried. Owen stopped immediately turning to Miles. But one look at him made him look back at Heinrich. It started with two wrecking balls, connected by chains which led to to cuffs on each of the daemons long slender arms. The daemon had its eyes closed and its mouth looked stitched. Its arms were like the rest of its body was slender, hidden under a sleeveless white robe which fell below his floating legs. It stood silently, observing the two guys.

"One. Two. Three."

Owen immediately snapped his fingers and the daemon's vision immediately went black. When the daemons vision returned, the three inquisitors were gone.

"Good, " Owen sighed as he put Heinrich down, "We made it."

"For now."

"Heinrich's lost a lot of blood. He might not make it."

"So would we."

"I'm serious."

"So is the daemon."

"What the..." Owen turned to see the daemon directly in front of Miles.

"How?"

"Leave with Heinrich."

"Hell no."

"DO IT NOW!!" Miles shouted. "Get away as fast as possible. NOW!"

Owen looked one last time and carried Heinrich, hurrying off. Miles sighed, looking squarely in the face of the daemon. The daemon 'looked' back, tilting his head.
