Chereads / Inquisitors / Chapter 89 - Mark Time 2

Chapter 89 - Mark Time 2

Canberra, Australia

[Beautiful, isn't?] The daemon said as it walked backwards. Sarah jumped back immediately, right next to Dean. Claire was still in a state of panic.

[The look in your eyes, that fire! Oh! That fire. Its been so, so long since I saw that look!]

"Is this a...?" Sarah asked.

"No." Dean replied. "Sins are more powerful. This ones just old. Too old. Still a problem."

"We're going to die....we're going to die...we're going to die..." Claire repeated on and on. Sarah looked at her and swallowed hard. She was right, they could die. Any second from now. The situation was already hopeless. They couldn't even keep track of her movements.

"HEY!" Dean called out to her. "Calm down." Sarah looked at her, her face in cold sweat.

"We're going to find a way out of this, one way or the other." Dean continued, raising his fist, "You too Claire."

"Are...are you serious?!" Claire exclaimed. "Can you not tell how powerful the daemon is? We're going to..."

The daemon rushed at Claire reaching to rip off her head. Dean jumped in the way, blocking her hands with the back of his and grabbing her other hand, throwing her away. The daemon didn't go far as it regained its composure with a broad smile.

[Lovely]

"Claire, start the buff!! Sarah protect Claire."

A circle formed around Claire and around her wrists. Still shivering, she stretched it towards Dean and Sarah. Immediately, circles appeared on their wrists as well.

[Allow me to put your fears at rest.] the daemon said as she appeared behind Claire, ready to split her head into. Sarah rushed at the daemon, piercing at the daemon with her sai.

"Hold on Claire," Dean cried as he charged at the daemon, kicking it in its face. The daemon staggered backwards but instantly rushed at Claire, held off by Sarah.

"Your opponent is me!" Dean cried, charging at the daemon again. The daemon rose to the sky stretching out her palms. Vestorers charged up in each palm and fired up to the sky.

[Rain down]

The two vestorers immediately burst, falling down like rain onto the earth, much to the shock of the three inquisitors. Grabbing Claire, Dean made a run for shelter, disabling the circle. Sarah followed suite dodging the raining vestorers.

"AAAARGH!!" Dean cried as a vestorer penetrated through his left leg. The two stumbled to the floor. Though the vestorer rain had died down, the daemon was now hot on their tail, standing over them

Sarah stopped, immediately clasping her hands. Several blue sparks appeared behind her The sparks slowly metamorphosized into small bug-like creatures. The swarm flew towards the daemon, blocking her field of vision.

Sarah and Rebecca Stone had two unique techniques. Rebecca's technique was Infection, a licht technique that turned her blood into an infectious disease that attacked the white blood cells. And then there was Sarah's technique; Infestation. Her licht technique literally turned her licht energy into small locusts which burrowed into the skin of their target, eating it from the inside out.

The daemon cleared her the area. Looking round, she sighed, frustrated.

[Run, run, run all you like. We'll see how long that lasts.]

Sarah let out a sigh of relief as she sat down behind the building. Dean was nursing his injured leg while Claire was having another breakdown, not like the first one, thankfully.

"Shouldn't we call for backup?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah," Claire agreed.

"No." Dean answered, "If we call for backup now, what makes you think that we'll have more guys to handle a sin, if it comes."

"If it comes. But it might not, right?"

"Claire, we can't be too reckless." Dean sighed. "Besides...I can beat it on my own."

"What?!" Claire exclaimed. "Why haven't then?"

Sarah stared at Dean. Yes, why? Why not take it out immediately rather than letting yourself go through...

"Wait," Sarah said, "On your own?"

Dean sighed. "I'm a rei user. My rei's ability is wide range, and does not differentiate between friend or foe. That's why I normally go out on my own."

"Then GO!!" Claire said.

"You really have no idea about fighting an old daemon, huh." Dean sighed. "The two of you need to get as far away as possible. NOW!"

"Don't need to tell me twice," Claire said as she made a dash for safety. Sarah looked at Dean, concerned.

"Can you, really?" Sarah asked.

"Please, kid. Don't look down on me."

"Martha taught me that not every daemon is the same." Sarah said as she stood up to leave, "Good luck..."

[There you are] The daemon said, standing right in front of Sarah. Dean acted fast, pulling Sarah back and punching the daemon in the chest. The two inquisitors immediately retreated as the daemon fired a vestorer in their direction. The two ducked into an alleyway, avoiding the blast.

"Does your rei have a warm up period?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Start now, I'll distract it."

"BUT WAIT..."

Sarah didn't listen as she stepped out to face the daemon. The daemon stopped, surprised.

[Have you fallen for me? Finally?]

Sarah clasped her hands producing the swarm of bugs. She sent them flying at the daemon. Rather flying around it, the flies attacked her directly, penetrating its skin. They, however, where not deep enough as the daemon merely brushed them off.

[I'm disappointed really, Honestly I was expecting more.] the daemon said as it brushed off her physical attacks. The blade of Sarah's Sai broke off as she drove it into the daemon's chest.

[My turn.] the daemon said, grabbing her hand. It landed a headbutt on her head followed by a kick to the stomach, which sent Sarah stumbling. The daemon caught up to her , lifting her of the ground and punching her in the abdomen, twice before dropping her on the ground.

[Don\t worry, I'll do worse to the other girl] It said as it stepped on Sarah's aching body. Dean came from behind it and punched it away.

"N...N...now?"

"When I activate my rei, I will be disabled for awhile, so you are going to be left as the only one standing."

"Great. But I thought you said..."

"That it affects everyone? Yes I was coming to that. I'm going to have to puncture your eardrums."

"WHAAT??!!"

"No choice and no time." Dean said. "Brace yourself!"

The daemon began to approach them, cracking its neck. Claire looked at it and sighed. "DO IT FAST!!"

It happened swiftly, so fast that Sarah didn't react to it immediately. By the time she knew it, she was on the floor, screaming, her hands on her bleeding ears as she rolled and writhed in pain, oblivious to the sound all around her.

"I'm so, so sorry." Dean said, "I ain't gonna waste this chance. Carol of the Bells."

A large bell pooped out of nowhere behind Dean and ringing loudly. The daemon stopped dead in its tracks as it tried to cover its ears, all to no avail as it began to bleed from its eyes and the side of its head and mouth. It got down on one knee, its teeth clenched.

[DAMN YOU!!!] It cried furiously as it charged Dean.

With an added buff from Claire, who could buff anyone over a kilometer away as long as she has done it before, the swarm that Sarah produced was large, like a dark cloud that covered the sun. The locust rushed at the daemon.

The daemon however was unfazed by this, at it slowly approached them, ready to kill them all.

Infestation had another side to it. Once inside of a target, the locust would eat its victim from the inside out until nothing was left. But that was the first thing. Since it was made of pure licht energy, it still meant that Sarah could control them. All she needed was one of them inside of its target, before she could switch to its second phase...Infection.

The daemon fell to the ground, spitting out black blood all over. It writhe around as black spots appeared all over its skin, tearing at its own skin with her claws. Until finally, it died, unable to bear with the intense pain. Dean ended his rei as he slumped to the ground, tired. He looked at Claire, the latter who was standing close by, annoyed.

Sarah sat back down, unable to hear anything, watching the dead daemon, as if thinking back on something.
