Chapter 82 - Into the Storm 2

The meeting was short and brief, as it was at the same time powerful and threatening. Kael and Kaien had retreated to their lab, somewhere at the bottom of Tartarus. Donna was still around, the only thing that had changed was that she was not checking herself on the mirror. Oz was talking to his aide, Jhin. The rest of the aides were discussing something amongst themselves. Heinrich sighed.

Personally, he had only joined the inquisition to pay of his debt. Being indebted was one thing, but being indebted to an international crime lord was another. The inquisition was the only place that he knew he could pay of his debt, that and selling his organs.

He had heard of the Daemon Incident from the crime lord's goons. He hadn't thought much about it too. Now he was going to participate in it. What a drag.

"I know, right." An inquisitor said beside him, "I here the last one painted the streets red."

He had been thinking out loud again. It was becoming a habit, he needed to stop. "C'mon, that's just an exaggeration, right."

"I swear, it was real. Isn't that right, Agatha."

The woman glanced at him and said nothing, only giving him a nod. "See," the guy said, "What did I tell ya."

"But if you were alive and look as fresh as ever, then that tells me that you only saw the aftermath." Another inquisitor joined in.

"Lay off Mikhail." The inquisitor said, "Still was in it."

"You both fought in the 2nd Daemon Incident?" Heinrich asked.

"Yeah, pretty much." Mikhail said, "Agatha, me, him, and a few others. It was one hell of a day. By the time it was over, lots of us left. The few that stayed had a few screws loose."

"But its different this time, right?" Heinrich asked, "Last time, they popped out of nowhere. This time, we know when they'll strike."

"Doesn't make it any better," Agatha said, "It just means that we will be on the frontline."

"And?"

Agatha laughed, causing a lot of eyes to turn. Laughing was something she wasn't known for.

"And?" She repeated. "Boy, have you seen a sin before"

"No, not really."

Agatha shook her head and walked away.

"What's wrong with her?" Susan asked Mize in a low voice.

"Hell would I know," Mize replied. "It ain't my business."

"Such a killjoy." Susan said, walking away from him. Mize was actually thinking of what Agatha had said. Truth was he hadn't seen anyone die before. All his missions were a success, no casualties whatsoever. Guess he was lucky. But how long would he be lucky? How much luck could a person have before it run out? He knew that there wouldn't be an answer to that question.

"Hey, Susan wait up."

Inquisition HQ, Somewhere on the Indian Ocean

"I ask again. When are you going to take this seriously?" Dimitri Beckson asked the woman in front of him. Sharon yawned, stretching.

"How about, never."

"We have a daemon incident ahead of us in a few weeks. And you'd rather slack off than help me train to survive? Talk about selfish."

"Hey. They did warn you."

"They did indeed." Dimitri said charging forward. He almost reached her, only for Sharon to sidestep and watch him fall to the ground face first. Dimitri tried to kick her to the floor but she walked away.

"BOOO!" Sharon teased. "Sucks to be you."

"I'll get you for this. One of these days I will."

"Um...Miss Eagon." Kanon called from the corridor.

"For the last time, Kanon. It's Sharon. SHARON!!" She groaned, stretching again. "C'mon, I'm not that old."

"Well, you are almost in your..."

"Don't you dare, kid."

"Okay, okay." Dimitri said as he hurried off, with Sharon behind him dragging her feet.

The Inquisition Castle. Built by the first Inquisitor, of which no one knew who he was. Not that it mattered, as long as the core function of the group was maintained. The meeting room was quite large though, and dark. As dark as the rest of the halls but still large, considering the next room was where the primes met, and that room was smaller than this one.

Most of the strongest Inquisitors were here. From the mysterious Damien Hunter who stood in front of them currently, his book in his hand as usual to the clown T'Vor, who sat at the back, thinking of new joke. Some inquisitors here were rumored to be as powerful as aides, even more powerful, but due to their uncontrollable tendencies and behaviour, they didn't make the cut. Even Sharon was one of such. In fact she had been deemed a prodigy when Jahn Vu had stepped into power.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," Damien began, silencing the entire room, "I suppose by now all of you have heard the news of the impending Daemon incident. As such, we would be breaking off into our respective groups to better ourselves before the scheduled time. Our assignment will be focused on North and South America, with the exception of Canada and Hawaii. Those areas have been taken car off by inquisitor gangs. As for the aides, you have been assigned to another assignment in Belgrade, so you won't join your respective teams. Any questions?"

The meeting dispersed and all the inquisitors left to their own business.

"Hey Damien, a word?" Sharon called, approaching Damien. Damien excused himself from Kanon and walked towards her.

"How may I help you, Ms. Eagon."

"Drop the formalities Damien or I'll whoop your ass."

"Ah, that again. However, in the presence of others, I actually prefer my formal personality."

"Gosh, you are the worst."

"I'm glad I annoy you. It makes me pleased."

"That thing on Belgrade, you going?"

"Well, it has been assigned to aides so, yes. Yes I am."

"But you already know what's there, right?"

"Of course I do, Ms. Eagon. I've known it since the Dark family incident. We were both present when it happened."

"No, we were on the sidelines. Why are you willingly going. It's a suicide mission."

"Belgrade is a suicide mission? And I thought you were all brawn." Damien smiled. "While I did say that all aides are going to Belgrade, It doesn't apply to me."

"What?"

Damien sighed. "I've been assigned to another mission with the Grand Prime."

"Oh, thank goodness."

Damien shook his head. "Belgrade might be a suicide mission because of what we know, but where I'm going, well, it makes Belgrade look like a walk in the park.

Two Weeks Later...

The alarms rang through every city in the world. Several people were being evacuated by shield agents to bunkers scattered around the globe. It was utter chaos as the civilians run for shelter, some died on the way. Like the end of the world in a movie played out before Lukas' eyes. Why was this going on? Well, it was the presence of a single daemon in the sky.

Shortly after the Foundation attack, a daemon appeared in the sky announcing a dreadful announcement of a daemon incident. The panic that it brought was frightening. The inquisition had their meetings and so did the shield until they came to an agreement; the shield will prioritize citizen safety, the Inquisition will exterminate the daemon.

Now, it was here again, in the sky, with a sole message.

[Ready your men, Ready your armies. For the daemons are here.]
