Chereads / Lich: Glory Knight / Chapter 2 - Escape (2)

Chapter 2 - Escape (2)

Dimly lit building. The innkeeper led the way with an oil lamp, followed by Eileen and a group of knights.

Their iron boots made a "yaya" sound on the wooden stairs, as if they could collapse at any moment.

They climbed to the top floor, and the innkeeper pushed open the slightly ajar wooden door.

What greeted them was an ordinary room.

There was a balcony, and the red moonlight spilled in through the French windows, shining on the desk facing the fence. It was somewhat dilapidated.

Next to it was an empty bookshelf and a simple set of table and chairs, as well as a bed covered with a brown blanket. There were no decorations or paintings on the walls.

For this era, this kind of room was considered decent, after all, it was just a place for commoners to live. However, even though it was on the top floor of the three-story building, the room was still filled with a musty smell, and the air was murky and humid. As soon as they opened the door, a pungent odor rushed over them.

Eileen frowned and covered her nose with her hand unconsciously.

The innkeeper hurriedly ran to open the window for ventilation.

"Are there no better rooms?" the bearded knight asked angrily.

The innkeeper lit both lamps in the room and smiled flatteringly, "This is already the best one."

"Then clear out your own room!"

The bearded knight grabbed the innkeeper's collar and lifted him up, frightening the innkeeper who almost dropped the oil lamp.

Just as the bearded knight was about to act, Eileen raised her hand, and the bearded knight immediately stopped and put the innkeeper down.

"Enough. It's only a few hours until morning, it doesn't matter where we sleep. Everyone rest quickly, we still have a long way to go."

Eileen spoke up, and the bearded knight respectfully took a step back and bowed, "Yes, Miss Eileen."

"Get out."

"Yes."

Everyone left the room.

In the small room, only Eileen remained.

She took a deep breath and couldn't help but cough twice. She covered her lips and walked step by step to the balcony, opened the windows wider, and then stood quietly, letting the breeze brush her cheeks. Her hand holding the sword tightened unconsciously.

Suddenly, a scream came, followed by the sound of horse hooves and collisions.

"He's here! Hurry!"

"Don't let him get away!"

Opening her eyes, Eileen walked out of the balcony and looked towards the street, seeing a small figure in a cloak running wildly on the street. A group of knights chased after him, and there were many people blocking his way.

"Are there really lich?" Eileen widened her eyes slightly.

In just a moment, the figure had disappeared from her sight, leaving a mess behind.

Before she could react, she heard a loud bang, and the door behind her was pushed open.

Bearded knights burst in and saw Eileen standing safely on the balcony. They breathed a sigh of relief and saluted, "Miss Eileen, are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

...

Gray fled with the black cat, fast as the wind. Along the way, he overturned the sunshade at the corner of the alley, trampled on the vegetable vendor's stall, and broke the railing of the stable... The knights raised their spears and galloped on the street, stirring up chaos in the once quiet town.

What surprised everyone was that two legs could outrun four legs.

The agility of the lich and demon far exceeded the knights' expectations. He could jump three or four meters high like a grasshopper, directly leaping over the heads of the knights. He could also crawl into a dog hole like a hamster, and even split himself into two parts, with his lower body running under the horse and his upper body jumping over the knights' heads. The bows and arrows were useless against him. Even if they hit him, they only left one or two holes in his black cloak, which then got stuck in his ribs. In the blink of an eye, he would remove them and discard them.

"Damn it! Can't anyone bring a net?"

"I'll chop him up and feed him to the dogs!"

"He went that way! Hurry!"

The knights were dizzy from being led in circles in the alley, panting and exhausted.

Watching the knights' figures come and go, the black cat was delighted.

"Wow, you can run so fast? I couldn't tell, I thought you would fall apart when you ran!"

"I used three layers of gust magic on myself!"

"Awesome! That's what an evil lich should be like! Hahaha!"

The fat cat hadn't finished laughing yet when Gray suddenly braked and turned around!

The knight coming straight, holding up his lance and aiming it at Gray. In that split second, Gray bent down and dodged the attack accurately, and also picked up something on the ground.

The black cat's eyes almost fell out of its sockets.

"What are you doing?! You scared me to death!" When the black cat finally regained its composure, it found Gray holding his chin... well, as expected, skeletons would fall apart when they ran, and their chins would come off, so it was reasonable to pick it up.

Taking a breath, when they looked around, the black cat suddenly became agitated. They were surrounded by a large group of knights, knights' attendants, foot soldiers, and even civilians inside and outside!

"See where you can run." The silver-armored knight rode his horse and walked up to them with a sneer.

"Us? No! I have nothing to do with him! I'm just a stray cat passing by!" The black cat struggled to explain desperately, but unfortunately its nape was firmly caught by Gray. And its voice, falling into the ears of the silver-armored knight, was just a series of "meows".

...

Eileen stood quietly on the balcony, watching Gray in the distance. Beside her were the bearded knight and the tall, thin middle-aged man.

Downstairs at the inn, several knights and their attendants had already drawn their weapons and formed a defensive circle, guarding all the entrances to the inn.

Eilin stood quietly on the balcony, watching Gray in the distance. Beside her were the bearded knight and the tall, thin middle-aged man.

Downstairs at the inn, several knights and their attendants had already drawn their weapons and formed a defensive circle, guarding all the entrances to the inn.

...

The blood-red moonlight poured down, illuminating the bare skull and tattered cloak of Gray the Lich.

He slowly lifted his head and looked around.

All the spears were pointed at him with precision, and the people holding them all involuntarily swallowed their saliva, their eyes widened with nervousness and trembling.

Lich had not appeared in the mortal world for thousands of years. For everyone present, this was the first time they had seen a necromancer so closely and clearly.

Short in stature, only as tall as a thirteen or fourteen-year-old human child, the immaculate bones emitted a dark red luster under the moonlight. The dark red soul flame in his eye sockets swayed with every movement, leaving behind afterimages. Although there were slight differences from the legendary necromancers, this evil appearance was enough to scare disobedient children.

Slowly opening his mouth, Gray spewed out a wisp of white mist like an evil Lich from various stories. Just when everyone thought he was about to say something cruel or curse the gods like in the stories, he said, "I was wrong. I can bury the bones and write another apology letter to the owner of the grave. Please accept my sincere apology."

The voice was directly transmitted through soul induction.

Suddenly, everyone was stunned. The scene was quiet.

Eileen, who was standing on the balcony, furrowed her eyebrows and sneered, "What is he saying?"

The bearded knight beside her began scratching his head, looking puzzled.

Gray had no expression, but the meaning of his words should have been clear to everyone.

The black cat in his hand rolled its eyes and said, "Which villain surrenders before even making a move? And you want to apologize? Goodness gracious! This is an embarrassment to all necromancers!"

"I just want to resolve this peacefully as much as possible," Gray said.

That's what Gray was thinking. However, when the words fell into the ears of the Silver Armor Knight, they were understood differently: "So, you mean you surrender?"

"Well... you could say that, if you're willing to accept my apology..."

Before Gray could finish, the Silver Armor Knight had already shouted, "Did you all hear that? He's afraid! He's afraid of us! Hahaha! He's afraid of us, so what are we afraid of? Let's go, take him down!"

"Charge!" All of a sudden, everyone rushed towards Gray as if they had taken chicken blood, frightening him to the point of being stunned.

In the midst of the chaos, people and horses were crowded together.

"Don't push from behind!"

"Oh my god! Who just stepped on my butt?"

"I caught the necromancer! I caught the Lich!"

"That's my foot!"

Probably because Gray is too short, he was squeezed out directly when the crowd pushed forward. The Silver Armored Knight was standing outside, riding a horse and holding a long spear, but he couldn't find Gray in the crowd even after looking for a long time.

Just as he was hesitating whether to rush into the crowd himself, he suddenly saw Gray sneak out from under someone's crotch, then quickly crawled back and pulled out a black cat.

"He's over here! Don't let him escape!" Perhaps still wary of the Lich, the Silver Armored Knight did not immediately rush over, but shouted loudly instead.

This hesitation gave Gray a chance to escape.

He quickly pinched his hands and completed a spell.

The next moment, before the crowd could react, Gray's feet were already off the ground. His body was thrown into the air like a ball.

"Why didn't you fly earlier since you can fly!" the black cat screamed while being held by Gray.

"Because I don't really know how!" Gray shouted back.

Amidst the screams, the knights saw Gray's figure draw a parabolic curve in the sky and crash into a straw shed at the other end of the town, collapsing it.

The whole world suddenly fell silent.

The Silver Armored Knight, who had regained his senses, raised his sword high and shouted, "Chase after him!"

So everyone ran madly towards the other end of the town again.

Eileen's heart finally relaxed a little and she sneered, "The Lich is stupid, and the people are even more stupid."
