"Here we are," said Reuben, holding open the door.
"Thank you," replied Dottie, as she walked in. She paused just inside the door, and let Reuben catch up before walking with him towards the coffee shop counter. She paused at her spot in line over what should be her snack today. Slowly they walked towards the counter as the line shortened.
"Welcome to Heavenly Coffee. How can I help you?"
The duo looked at each other.
"I'd like a medium coffee please."
"Milk or sugar?"
"Black, please. Dottie, what would you like?"
"Coffee as well, with sugar."
Reuben looked at the barista.
"Can I add another medium coffee with sugar, please."
"Absolutely. If you go to the next counter, that is where you will pick up your order."
"Thank you."
The two of them went with the flow of people to the next counter over, and waited for their coffee. They waited a few minutes discussing where they would sit, deciding in the end that one of the window seats would be nice. After they got their coffee, they went and sat down.
"Thanks for taking me out to coffee."
"You are welcome."
They sat and sipped their coffee, enjoying the bitter tasting warmth flowing down their throats.
"Beautiful weather when you're not out in it for long."
"Hmm. Yeah, weather does look pretty when you're not dealing with the effects of it."
"Agreed. In half a year, we'll be annoyed at the flies and the heat making every one sweaty."
"Hmm. So how has your week been?"
"It's been pretty busy, with a couple of tests this week. That's not to say anything about the group projects and coordinating those around everybody else's schedules."
"I see. I have been pretty busy as well. That storm last week really messed up a lot, so there were a few people looking at property insurance. Some people had to call in for their insurance to fix up their properties."
"Ah, the whole not allowed to discuss confidential stuff goes for your work place too. I forgot."
"Yep."
"It's so fun trying to tell stories without sharing any details."
They both chuckled. They talked for a little longer, and then they had to leave.
They walked together back to her apartment. As they did so, they enjoyed the frosty weather making things sparkly. They avoided falling on slippery patches, and talked. Eventually, they got to her place, and had the usual trouble saying goodbye.
"It's been nice seeing you again."
"It's been nice seeing you as well. Shall we do this again?"
"Yes, I would love to."
"Great, I'll put the details in the same place, or I'll send them by text?"
"Can you please do both? I forget."
"All right."
"Good bye for now."
"Good bye."
"Talk to you tomorrow?"
"Of course."
"See you."
"See you."
