Chapter 6
Bryan was restless, even after feeding on the blood he had brought a few days back, he was getting more hungry. He stood up and walked blindly to the sitting room, peeped around for sight of any one. Without thinking, he banged on Pearl's door, when it was obvious she was not going to answer, he teleported in and saw her sleeping, the sight of her made him more hungry.
He bent toward her and placed his mouth close to her neck, Bryan could feel his fangs getting longer, he proceeded to feed himself.
Suddenly, Pearl yanked away from him, the fear was written boldly on her face. Without thinking, Bryan walked toward her with slow deliberate steps. All he could hear in his head was "Bite her". The voice was getting louder until he wasn't able to control himself. He held in tightly unto her and bit her, creating a hickey. He sucked into the artery, as much as he could. When he finally stopped, she fell unconsciously into his arms.
Bryan stared at her in horror and didn't even know when Pearl fell from his hands. He bent over her and wept. He hated himself for being a monster, worst still not being able to control himself. He carried her gently to the bed and placed her in it then he went outside.
Bryan came back a few seconds later with a towel and water in his hand. He put the towel gently on her head. Pearl was burning hot.
Bryan was scared of touching her, he wondered if he could face her again with what he had done.
He soon fell asleep beside her.
*******
The next morning Pearl woke up to find Bryan sleeping beside her with a duvet covering them both. At first, she wondered why her alarm had not woken her up. She jumped out of the bed and looked around, only then did she notice that the room was not the one she had slept in.
She screamed.
Her scream woke Bryan, he stood up and stared and looked at her in horror. He had forgotten to wipe the memory of the last night from her brain.
'What are you doing here?' She questioned, dragging the duvet to herself.
'Me? This is my house, I have every right to go where I want'. Bryan said in spite of himself.
'You! Pervert! Why should you come here while I sleep?' She screamed.
'My ears are getting blocked'. Bryan covered his ears with his hand.
'Get out of here!' Pearl shouted again.
'Damn it! I am going already'. Bryan stood up hurriedly from the bed and walked to the door. He tried opening it, but it would not bulge.
'Get out!' Pearl screamed again.
'Do you think I enjoy staying here and listening to your ear blocking screams?' He tried the door again.
'Stop acting. It is really not funny anymore. I need to go out'.
'Do you think I am acting?' Bryan questioned angrily.
'Is it locked?'
'Yes'.
'Then you should open it. You must have locked it when you came in'.
Bryan ruffled his hair and he remembered he had teleported inside, he wondered how he was going to get out of the mess he had caused without raising suspicions. Suddenly he turned to Pearl, pushed her to the bed and tried to check if there was any sign of a bite where he had sucked her blood last night.
It was there, just as if it was new.
Bryan stood up and walked to the door again.
'What are you doing here?' Pearl touched her neck.
'Oh!'. She corked her head sideways. 'Do you think you can treat me anyhow just because it's your house? Have you got no shame at all? Are you a fool?'
Pearl stood up from the bed and walked toward him. She held his head close to hers.
'You will regret this. Mark it anywhere Bryan'. She slapped him before releasing his head.
Hurriedly, she walked to the bathroom, got into the bathtub after locking the door behind her and cried.
Making use of the opportunity, Bryan teleported back out and opened the door before walking back to his room.
It was his fault, he told himself. He should be ready to pay for it. Paying the price for not being able to control his monster self, he collapsed on the bed and sent a few angry punches into the pillow.
******
After taking her bath and putting on her clothes, Pearl finally got outside. She walked to the door, ignoring Bryan's invitation to join him for breakfast.
'Hey Pearl, you should eat before going'. Bryan ran after her.
'So that you can do what you want with me again? Probably lock the door this time around'. She folded her arm and looked at him as if he was some cockroach in the cupboard.
'No, don't get me wrong'. He shook his head.
'Meet me in school'. She stormed out, got into her car, the driver was already waiting for her.
'Momma called'. Cha pointed out.
'Oh, what did she say?'
'She will be coming home soon for vacation'.
'And, is she coming with dad?' She just had to ask.
'Not sure. I mean, she didn't mention it'.
'She asked about me?' She leaned forward toward him.
'Yes. Told her you were sleeping'. Cha smiled at her knowingly.
'What is that smile? Nothing happened'. Pearl protested.
'I didn't ask'. Cha gave a half laugh and half groan.
'You didn't ask? I thought you asked'. Pearl turned her head as if it was suddenly heavy.
'Anything you do, be careful'. Cha advised quietly.
'Anything I do….' She repeated as if she was having difficulties understanding them.
'Yes'. He smiled again.
Pearl wondered why he suddenly was advising her. She relaxed back in the chair.
'Oh Lilly'. Pearl called immediately when she saw her friend.
'Your eyes look like you didn't get a wink of sleep last night,' Pearl took her hand.
'It's a long story. Markus is a mad guy. He would not do anything, only makes calls with his chains of girlfriends. He would not even allow me to sleep. He is the worst'. Lilly complained as if visualizing a scene she wanted to forget.
'That is bad'. Pearl said, as they walked to class.
'Wait!' Lilly checked her neck and covered her mouth in a grasp.
'What is wrong with you?' Pearl asked worriedly.
'Do you do something?' Lily asked with one hand covering her mouth to stop her from screaming
'What thing?' Pearl asked, surprised.
'Don't pretend you don't know'. Lilly nudged at her.
'Honestly I don't understand what you are saying?'
'Hickey'. She touched Pearl's neck.
'What do you mean?'
'Do you really not know?' All the smiles that were on Lilly's face disappeared.
Pearl shook her head in negation.
'You have got a hickey here'.
'That sounds absurd. I can assure you nothing happened'. Pearl wished it was true, especially when she remembered herself sleeping beside Bryan.
'Check it'. Lilly offered her a mirror.
'How can…' she gasped when she saw it.
'You don't know about this?' Lily asked again.
'Sure I don't'.
'This would create a scene in the class if we don't do something about it'. Lilly said thoughtfully.
'I can not believe that… he is a bitch! Has he got no human feelings at all? Or is he a fool? How can he decide to do what he wants?' Pearl growled.
'Here, have this'. Lilly wrapped a scarf around her neck.
'Sure, you are the best'. Pearl adjusted the cloth on her neck.
Pearl was fuming when she got to the class. She went straight to Bryan, who happened to be there before her, dragging him to his feet, she walked him outside.
'Hey girl, you are hurting me'.
'When you explain this, then I will release you'.
'What on earth are you talking about?' The voice was absolutely not Bryan's.
Pearl turned to look at him, Adrain was staring at her strangely.
'What were you going to tell me?' He folded his arms.
'You! You are a fool. A pretty big one'.
He stared at her, puzzle lines on his face.
'Are you sure you are talking to me? I am Adrain, not some other person'. He peeped into her eyes.
'Yeah. And you are the worst. All of you!' Pearl screamed.
'I need to let someone know about this. We should not keep an insane person in the school'. He made to go, but Pearl pulled him back, gave him a blind slap on his face. It sent him sprawling on the floor.
'Remember the slap I was going to give you'. Pearl had forgotten herself, remembering it made her sound less stupid. She had intended to drag Bryan, but had found herself holding Adrain.
*****
'You should have warned me before now'. He stood up weakly from the floor.
'It was meant to be a surprise I guess'. Pearl shrugged.
The two went back to the class, with Adrain holding the spot Pearl had slapped her.
Frank came into the class, this time around, a smile was on his face.
'We have done your assignment'. Someone shouted immediately he came in.
'What assignment?' He glared at them.
'The one you gave us yesterday'.
'Me?'
Someone stood up and gave him a book.
'Check it out'. He showed Frank.
'So, you mean….' He stared at them blankly. 'You all did it?'
'Yes, of course who wants to miss your class?'
'You shouldn't have. And how do you come up with answers very fast? Even a robot would have problems being as fast as this'. He stared at them wildly.
Pearl's heart sank. To think she had gone through a dreadful night as that for nothing was frustrating!
'You know what happened yesterday?' He looked around.
'I was not myself. Sort of, I was rejected'. Frank said almost in a waltz.
'Really?' Someone said, the voice had the mockery that had been intended to pass.
'Yes'. 'Someone told me I was not her type'. He cupped his face with his hand.
'Do I really look bad?'
'Yeah, especially when you frown, you are more or less a wizard that sounds grrrrrrrr'. Bryan said, making everyone roar in laughter, not even Pearl who had been angry since could stop herself from laughing.
'I am sorry for any inconvenience I might have caused you. And of course, you should have just ignored me'. Frank pointed at them as he said the words.
'To make up for that, you can ask questions, I will answer you. Today is going to be a free day'. He sat at the edge of a table, a short cane in his hand.
'When will I get my magazine back?' The boy whose magazine has been collected the other day asked.
'Boy, forget about it. I found most of the contents there funny, that I don't think I will want to return it to you'. Frank made a face at the boy.
'Dos vampires still exist?' Lilly suddenly asked, catching the attention of everyone.
'As far as I know, they don't exist'. Frank shrugged.
Bryan excused himself and walked out, he was not going to hear them talk about him.
'And if they still exist, you would probably not be alive now, because they suck human blood. You tend to annoy people'. Frank tried to make a joke out of it.
'You mean they suck blood?' Pearl suddenly asked.
'Yes'. Frank nodded his head in affirmation.
'What if they exist?' She asked disturbed, the image at the last party was disturbing.
'They don't, dear. At least not in our country. The only thing they depend on to live is human blood. You see why they cannot be in existence right?'
'Oh. Can you tell me more?' Lilly asked excitedly.
'Bloody witch. Go ask him personally'. Markus said without the least hiding the mocking tone he had intended.
'You!' She pointed at him, as if she was going to smack his head.
'Enough of that for you two'. Frank cautioned as, just like he would have done to a kid.
'Why do you ask that question the other time?' Pearl asked on their way to the cafeteria.
'I was going to write about it. I have to gather ideas'. She shrugged.
'Remember what I told you the other day?' Pearl said, suddenly looking worried.
'You heard the teacher say they don't exist. It must have been your imagination'. Lilly dismissed.
'I need to go to the library'. Pearl said, almost to herself.
"We had better go together, I have to check something".
Once there, Pearl checked out for books that might satisfy her curiosity. She soon saw one.
The horrible self of Bryan was soon going to be discovered, at least that was how it seemed at the moment
