There was commotion outside. Gunshots, the cry of falling men, grunting in agony. The sound of fist hitting flesh.
I picked up mikes M19, which hit the floor and slide to me. I pointed it straight at the two deadly panthers on the verge of turning, but I couldn't get a clear shot as they quickly change positions five yards away from me.
"turn the bastard to face me Ruby." I probed in my mind, hoping Ruby will pick the vibe.
D'mick seem to notice this, and wrapped his arms around Ruby's neck from behind, using her as a shield.
I can't risk the shot. D'mick however, had a clear shot at me with his gun in his free right hand. he buried his fangs deep on the pulsing aorta of Ruby's neck.
Ruby claws at his grip to free herself, but she was weakening as D'mick drank from her.
His shot hissed pass me by inches as I crouch to pick the iron bar on the floor, but my damaged knee gave way and I fell to the floor again, paralyze by the agony.
"oh look at you! helpless and naked like a new born. I have a better scene for you yet. Watch as I take her in the way of the panther, she likes it you know. Tell him Ludy, how we did it, oh, don't you sleep now Ludy. The fun is not over" D'mick sniggered triumphantly, brandishing his bloody fangs and gleaming menacing eyes, as Ruby turn spineless in his hands.
Contrite and mortified in my hopelessness, I seek solace in fury. But D'mick didn't know that.
In his ecstatic dementia, he let go of Ruby to unbuckle his belt, his gaze and gun fix on me as his left hand free his jeans fly.
This was my chance to take a shot, although D'mick will shot me before I ever got the chance to level my gun at him.
To watch another man, have Ruby in front of me, while I watched helplessly felt like death itself.
My movement was instinctual, unmeasured, a known risk, but one I had to take. D'mick release his slag as I expected him to do.
The hot pain on my left cleavage as the slag landed supplies my reflex with the right doses of adrenalin to focus and release my slag even as I role to one side.
The back door leading to the garden came flying in as D'mick went down on his knee grunting in pain.
My shot might have gotten him at the front. but he was lucid enough to take another shot at me as I role again on the floor for cover.
This time however, his movement was clumsy. A shot rang from the open door way, drilling a hole on his forehead through his brain.
I know only one man with that kind of accuracy, "Kogna!"
"Spooky!". Kate came storming in tears and hysterics, "oh, what did they do to you kiddo…" she cried and kneel before the lifeless figure of Ruby.
"stay back with the boy's Slash. Don't let no one come inside. Spread them boys around all parameters," Kogna gave others to his men, before coming to my side.
"This one was too close, Spooky."
"Damn close Kogna."
"will be right back, Spooky." Kogna rushed upstairs with the house keys and came back with a medical kit and clothes for I and Ruby as she stares feebly in her delirium…
"where is Spooky?" she asked. "I am here Ruby" I drag myself to her…
"There is no time, you've loss so much blood, let's go to Wodmax. We need the healing soil. Nebulous is there waiting ...."
"oh, kiddo. you are alive..." Kate cried as she bandages Ruby's neck.
"how did you know, Kogna?" I queried the hit man.
"missy here called me in, said she heard the Lycan brothers planning an attack on you and the princess."
Outside, the air was blowing strong as the dark clouds shields the light of the full moon.
We hit the road Kate's Rangeover, then it started to drizzle. It was the first rain in monsoon after the treacherous autumn, and it was as stormy as the tidal waves of the ocean.
The dark sky bristled ahead of us as we headed east towards wodmax with Kogna and his six slingers, following in another car.
It was raining heavily when we pulled in the parking lot of Wodmax.
"the night smell like hell, Spooky, and the devil seems to stalk in the shadows, what is going on? Man, I have seen my fair share of horror, but nothing like what I saw at your house to night…" Kogna queried as he helps me out of the car.
"then I advise you keep vigil with your men here, at the security post while I go in with the ladies."
"With your crippled leg, you can't make it nowhere."
"then, will you help me and keep your mouth shut…"
"the guards have their throats ripped out by claws at the security post, man. My men don't fear mean with guns. This is not a gun fight Spooky."
"it is not a gun fight, Kogna, but there is no time to make you understand anything. You can leave with your men; I wouldn't have any problem with your decision."
We reach the secret exit leading down stairs, two tall men in black suits were standing there on guard. This men were panther, I could sensed them now.
They open the door for us in a bow. Kogna was so wiry his shoulders tense as we passed the guards and started down the stairs.
Kate studied me curiously.
"it is true Kate. He is the one, his blood is the cure," Ruby said.
"he meets all three requirements?" Kate stopped to asked, and Ruby nodded in acquiescence.
