Diamond Grace Frederick was your typical good girl until the incident that changed her life forever occurred. She is a student of Breakthrough High School.A student with IQ 186 and SEQ 180.
Diamond was the joy of her family. She was also a very good athlete and tennis player. Although race was her favorite sport, she also excelled in Tennis.
She was never left out in any competition be it quiz or sports. Before joining Over-comers High, She had always wanted to be a cheerleader flier but after going for their rehearsals once, she dropped out thinking that those cheerleaders are all fake. She had always made her parents proud.
She had also won many awards throughout the years of her stay at Breakthrough High School. These awards consisted of both school awards and personal ones. Personal awards were the ones her parents had registered her for. It was after one of the Mathematics competitions she has partaken and excelled in that had landed her in Over-comers High.
Mrs. Vance, the founder of Over-comers High, was impressed by Diamond's intelligence. A little girl among bigger people way above her and beating them all coming out the top was incredible. Her parents had a mixed feeling of both happiness and sadness. Happy that their daughter was going to attend the best school in the states and sad because they were not sure she would be able to cope.
First of all, there were many rules and regulations. You must be in school before seven and Diamond wasn't a morning person. You can't bring in food from outside the school, Diamond had never eaten any food that wasn't homemade. She loves homemade food.
After doing research about the school, her mother's worries increased, many students left the school due to bullying, especially when the student was from a poor family.
No they were not a poor family but an average one. Nevertheless, mothers would not be mothers if they don't worry for their kids and Diamond's mother is not an exemption especially since Diamond would be going to the school on scholarship. She even regretted accepting the offer and had wanted to terminate it if not for Diamond's pleadings and excessive promises to be good and careful, not to hesitate to tell her when being bullied and would not refuse to drop out if worst comes to worst.
Diamond was always a cheerful type until an unfortunate predicament befell her and her family.
On this fateful day,16 years old Diamond returned from school to witness the heart wreaking death of her family. Her mum, Mrs. Ruth Frederick suffered from brain turmoil and her family couldn't afford the treatment so they all awaited her death only to return from school and see her mum being butchered but not without a fight and beatings from her killer.
With tears in her eyes, she remembered the promise her mom had made.
" Don't worry, I won't leave just yet and even if I do, I won't go without a goodbye, okay?" She had said with a smile on her lips even though she knew she was dying.
Before her mother died, she gazed at her with loving eyes and whispered "I love you and your brother and would always do" to her.
She was astonished because she didn't think her mom would see her and at first had thought she had imagined it but hell no, it wasn't her imagination but reality.
Her dad was stabbed in the chest to death after being forced to watch the brutal killing of his wife. Tears streamed down her face and she had to hold her sobs and not make a sound.
She sneakingly followed the back door to see if she could save her 1 year old little brother. She quietly went to his room where she found him sleeping peacefully on his bed.
She picked him up quietly avoiding making a sound which she succeeded in doing and was about to sneak out when the boy loudly cried because she had mistakenly hit his head on the wall due to worry and nervousness.
Following the loud cry of her little brother, she was caught. The men who were all black putting on masks surrounded them.
" Look what we've got here" one of the men said, tilting her head upward to look at him. She tried pulling her head from his firm grasp.
"She's defiant, I think we should take her back with us" a lady said
Diamond was confused when she had the female voice. She had initially thought they were all men.Due to the face mask they were all putting on, she could not see their face to decipher who was male or female but she did not care as that was the least of her problems right now.
" Then what of the boy?" A guy asked. One of the people fake coughed to get his fellow's attention and signaled for them to go elsewhere to discuss.
She assumed he did not want them to talk in front of her.
" Why don't we take both of them with us, you know she could be useful to us" one said.
" What if Boss gets mad, what do we do?" The other questioned.
" I'm sure Boss wouldn't get mad. This is not the first time we are taking someone back" a guy said.
" And you seem to have forgotten what happened then" the lady countered.
" Boss wasn't mad that we brought someone back. He was mad because of our mistake" the previous person reminded him.
In all of these arguments, only one hadn't said anything. It seemed that he was listening to what they were saying.
Finally, he said something that she couldn't hear, more like a whisper after looking at her. Maybe he could sense that she was hearing all what they were saying.
They discussed and finally decided to take both of them. Diamond had already decided not to leave her little brother. Her little brother had woken up and was looking at her.
The men then dragged them to the awaiting black wagon. Practically, they dragged her but she was holding her brother though. Afraid of them taking him from her.
