I entered the alley and saw two men wearing black clothing watching me as I entered.
"You two, you must be assassins, right?" I asked.
"You're waiting for Father to beat those guys and suddenly attack so you can catch him off guard." I added.
"You brat, how do you know we're here?" asked by one of them.
"There's no use in hiding if we're already discovered; let's just go there and help them fight that magician," said another.
"You're right; let's go," replied assassin 1.
Let me call them assassins numbers 1 and 2, so it won't cause any confusion.
"Wait, why not let's take this brat as a hostage?" said assassin number 2, then look at me.
"That way we can make that magician not use his magic if he doesn't want his child to get hurt," he added.
"You're right; let's do that," replied assassin number 1.
"I'm impressed" "I didn't know you were pretty smart," he added.
"Hehe, I'm not really that smart," he said, then suddenly threw a throwing knife in my direction and started to run.
It surprised me, but because our distance is five meters, I had time to cast a spell.
"Water shield!" I shouted, then a wall of water appeared in front of me and blocked the throwing knife.
The two assassins stopped in their tracks because they didn't expect that I could use magic.
"Brat, so you're a magician too; now that we know it, we won't hold back," assassin 2 said.
"Wait, this is just a child." "If we take it seriously, he might die," said assassin 1.
"Don't underestimate a magician or you might find yourself dead," replied assassin 2.
"Don't forget that I'm still here," I said before casting another spell.
"Water arrow!" I shouted, and three arrows headed in their direction.
Two arrows point towards assassin 2, and one arrow points towards assassin 1. Assassin 2 blocked one arrow with his sword, but the other one scratched him in the shoulder, while on the other hand, assassin 1 blocked the one arrow that was heading towards him with his sword.
"Look, what I just told you," said assassin 2 to assassin 1.
"Yeah, I won't hold back anymore," replied assassin 1.
After they said that, they ran, heading in my direction with their swords ready to attack me. When they reached a distance where they could hit me with their swords, they started to try to slash me.
"Wind repel!" I shouted, and as if there were a wall in front of me, their swords bounced back, and they almost let go of their swords. When I saw that opening, I started to cast another spell.
"Sonic boom!" I shouted, and suddenly a slicing wind blade headed towards assassin 1, hitting his stomach. If not for that leather armor that he is wearing, he might already be dead; instead, all he got was a shallow wound in his stomach and passed out from it.
Wind repel and sonic boom are the two new spells that I learned before we headed to the capital. Wind Repel casts a shield that blocks the enemies' attacks. Its advantage compared to the water shield is that the shield is transparent, so you can see every move your opponent makes and see if there's an opening when they hit the shield. Its disadvantage compared to the water shield is that the water shield has a one-meter range, while wind repel's range is only half a meter, so unless you know where your enemy is coming from, this spell is useless because of its short range.
On the other hand, a sonic boom is a wind spell that launches a slicing wind blade towards its enemy. The difference between sonic boom and wind slice is that wind slice has a long attacking range, while sonic boom's range is only a meter from its caster, so it can only be cast when your enemy is one meter away from you, but the damage and speed of the spell are ten times stronger and faster than wind slice.
After assassin 1 passed out, assassin 2 kept his distance from me and became wary of me.
"Not only water but even wind—what a monster you are!" Shouted by assassin 2
While he's talking, I take assassin 1's sword and make my stance.
"Don't tell me you can even use swordsmanship skills." Said by assassin 2
"Not really, it's just that I can't control my magic well because I'm used to fighting opponents who are stronger than me, so I might accidentally kill you," I said, provoking him.
"Don't underestimate me too much, in terms of swords; I'm far more powerful than you," he said, then started to run towards me and close the distance.
When the two of us were in our own attacking range, he was the first to attack, but his attacks were too slow, so I easily avoided them.
"Sorry, but I trained with a sword saint, so your movements were too slow for me," I said, then started to activate a skill.
"Sharp nail!" I shouted, then suddenly my speed doubled, and I targeted his chest.
If not for me canceling it before it pierced his chest, he might already be dead instead, just like what happened to Assassin 1, where it only left a shallow wound and he passed out from it.
After that, the tension in my body suddenly released, and I felt tired. All I wanted to do now was take a break, but I was too curious to know what happened in Father's fight, so I headed there. When I exited the alley, I could see ten bodies that were lying on the floor and Father, who was sitting in one of them.
"Will, have you finished already?" he asked.
"Yeah, and I feel so tired," I answered.
"Then we should head back now," he said.
"Okay," I replied.
After that, Father and I head back together towards the inn. When we entered, the innkeeper seemed troubled and didn't look us in the eye, but we were so tired to asked why she seemed troubled and why she was still awake at this time.
I head to Father's room because I might wake up Chris when I enter the room, so I decide to sleep in Father's room. But that decision was the biggest mistake that I made because I didn't know at that time that when morning came, Chris would disappear.
