Chapter 2 - Hawkins and the escape pod

Hawkins.. A silent and ordinary town, where its citizens lived a normal life. One night it experienced something unbelievable. Something that would affect it's future forever. Would it be for good or bad? Only time can tell that. Something shiny was falling from the sky towards this quiet town. An ordinary human couple, one a man probably around his forties, and a woman in her thirties, were sitting in their lawn. The woman had a tiny boy in her arms, who looked around curiously to his surroundings. He noticed something falling down the sky, and it was too beautiful.

The child raised his hands towards the meteor thing falling towards Hawkins. The couple noticed this behaviour of the child, so they raised their head and looked towards the sky. They were shocked and frightened by the appearance of a meteor, which seemed falling towards them. The frightened couple decided to escape with their child. The woman ran inside their beautiful house, with her child in her arms, while the man followed her. But suddenly both of them were thrown off their feets by a sudden shockwave. Everything around them turned bright. The woman because of her motherly instinct decided to protect her child and took the brunt of the force. The man who fell on the ground rushed up quickly to his wife and son, hoping both of them were fine.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he found that both of them were alright. "Karen, Are you okay?" Karen, the woman with the child quickly nodded and replied, "I am alright Ted... " But her expression turned to one as if she was frightened. Ted turned back to find the meteor had slowed down, and it seemed to be something had been blasted to the meteor.

The meteor had slowed down than how it was before. Ted quickly pulled up his wife, who had their son in her arms, and pushed her inside the house, just as the meteor struck the ground. "Ted!!" ,screamed Karen. The scream from his mother, made the child in her arms to cry. Ted had closed the door, and because of that the child and mother duo were safe from the aftershocks of the meteor hit. Outside was not entirely visible because of the debris because of the meteor strike. Karen quickly stood up and opened the door, after placing her child in a cradle. She was worried about her husband. She feared that her husband might have died. This thought was quickly shaken off her mind, as a drop of tear escaped her eye.

"Ted!" ,she called out to her husband as she looked around in the almost not visible surroundings. "Here.. ", came a muffled voice, which she recognised was as if her husband. She rushed towards her husband's voice and was surprised to find that her husband had something in his hand. Something wrapped around in red cloth. This wasn't what surprised her. The thing that surprised her was the meteor, or something like a pod that she remembered from a comic she had read a long ago. She quickly came near her husband and looked at the thing wrapped in the red cloth in his hands.

Ted raised his head and looked at Karen and whispered, "It's a boy. He came from that meteor.. " Karen was surprised. The child was the most beautiful she had ever seen. Even more beautiful than those children in the baby care advertisements. She couldn't believe her eyes that there are children who looked like this. She even suspected that the child was probably child of some angel or something.

The smoke and debris around her cleared and she was surprised that the surrounding wasn't affected at all. It was like there was nothing that had happened here. That's when she noticed a green wave coming out of the pod. It was a white metallic capsule like structure, which had the futuristic appearance that she had only seen in movies.

It was probably the green wave that had somehow repaired the surroundings. It was obvious that something falling with the speed as that of the meteor pod, was enough to destroy a block or two. The child opened his eyes suddenly, this scared the shit out of the couple. But the child simply giggled when he saw the scared couple. He then raised his hand and pressed the nose of the man who hold him, Ted. Then the child giggled as he pressed Ted's nose again and giggled. Seeing the giggling child, both Ted and Karen couldn't help but smile softly at the child. The child blabbered something as he raised his hands, towards Karen. As if understanding the child, Ted motioned Karen to take the child in her arms. Karen smiled as she took the child in her arms.

But the next second she looked at Ted with worried expression and asked, "He came out of this capsule?" Ted nodded grimly. Karen continued, "I don't want anyone to take him from us. It is probably God's way of showing us that we should take care of him. " Ted looked at the child and then at the pod. Then he said, "Thankfully this ship had something that had repaired the surroundings. I think we should hide the ship first. If people were to see the ship and somehow came to know that this child is from the pod, then the state would probably arrest him and do experiments on him. And from the looks of it, he seems to be an alien, who looks similar to humans, but his world should be highly developed in terms of technology. "

"No, I won't let anyone take our son. ", said Karen in a determined tone. She continued, "This is my son, Joey. Joey Wheeler. He is the twin child we had with Mike. I hope you can ask for help from Jim. He would help us, right?"

Ted nodded and said, "Don't worry about all that. We live in United States, there is nothing here that cannot be bought with money. Including certificates and fake documents. You go inside with Joey. I will take care of the pod. "

Karen nodded as she hurried inside. Ted shook his head with a smile as he muttered, "Thankfully it is late and no one is outside. It is probably fate that I became the father of an alien child. I just hope people aren't aware of him or the pod. " But then he realised that something had been shot at the pod, which had slowed it down. So it wasn't exactly true that no-one had noticed the pod.

"I will protect you till my last breath. ", Ted said in a determined tone, as he moved the pod, which thankfully wasn't too heavy for a well built person like Ted.
