The snow is falling hard, and it's hard to make out what's going on. The lights from the emergency vehicles are like a light show in the middle of the storm. Alessia looks down at the scene before her. EMTs are doing chest compressions on her lifeless body. She burned into her head this night the moment she died.
Now, she dreams of it. It's as if God tells her to make the most of her second chance at life and needs to remind her why she was brought back to the world of the living. For her to be dreaming of this night, it means she is asleep and alive.
The dream will continue as the police guide the little traffic away from the crash and the ambulance, preparing to take her to the hospital. Alessia knew that between the chaos below her and the feeling that her soul was calling to go into the light, this was when she met a woman.
She wore all black and had beautiful black hair. Alessia assumed it was a grim reaper, but she wasn't. The woman approached her with a sad smile, and it was as if she felt sorry for Alessia or maybe herself.
Alessia didn't talk to the woman but watched her hover over the lifeless body in the ambulance. After that, the only thing Alessia remember is waking up in the hospital alive.
Sometimes Alessia wonders if the woman gave her a second chance at life. She hasn't spent the time researching her or how she came back to life. Her mind was and is still pretty occupied. What she remembers the most was waking up terrified in the hospital. The place swims with demons, ghosts, and anything that lives in nightmares, and it's not a great place to be when you've 'woken.'
The dream playing before her quickly shifts, and Alessia can feel herself waking up. Even though she was dreaming, it was more like a lucid dream, she could freely think, and she sometimes studied the crash. Other times she observes the woman more.
A groan escapes her lips while trying to recall how she was knocked out. Alessia felt pain behind her neck and was looking up at–
"Where the hell am I?" Alessia yells, snapping open her eyes. She remembers those two guys. Did they kidnap her? Looking franticly around the room, she was lying on a massive bed with slick black bedding. The room was dim, and the only light source was a fireplace, so she couldn't make out much.
Throwing her leg off the bed, Alessia could feel her legs screaming at her not to rush. Ignoring them, she looks down at her clothes. She was still wearing her black cargo pants, and her black tank top was still in place.
Alessia touches her side and lifts her tank. Someone bandaged the wound. The feeling in her stomach is telling her that she needs to leave and leave now! Feeling around in her pockets, they are empty.
Great, now she has nothing to defend herself. Looking around the room a bit more, no one is in there. So, for now, she should be able to find some sort of weapon.
Eyeing the fireplace, Alessia moves with small steps to it.
"Your awake." A voice behind her says,
She jumps and whirls around, "What am I doing here?" Alessia yells at the voice, it is familiar, and the annoyance in the tone says it is someone in charge of babysitting her.
"You are just as rude and loud as always." The voice finally emerges from the shadow of the room.
"Nice to see you again." It was the man with long black hair, his name was Zagreus.
Alessia jumps back, hitting her back against a tall, black, over, stuffed chair.
"Where am I?" Alessia asks while feeling around for anything she can use to defend herself.
She can't make out his face, but Alessia can feel that he isn't happy to be around her just as much as she isn't pleased to be around him. A door behind her opens, letting in more light into the room.
The redhead steps into the room with a tray with a black teapot and small black cups with what looks like a dragon.
"Oh, you're up!" He says with delight. He moves to the side of the door and flips on the lights.
Alessia looks around with a dumbfounded look on her face. Was she in a castle? The walls are grey stone, and the tapestry around the room resembles something from history books.
There were no windows in the room, so she can't escape that way. That feeling of unease and panic rushes over her body. Where was she?
The redhead sits down the tray on a nearby table and smiles brightly at Alessia.
"I'm glad you are awake. I'm sorry we got off at the wrong start. I am Donn, and the grumpy one over there is Zagreus."
"What do you want from me?" Alessia watches both weary. The man named Zagreus is clearly not happy with her being here. The redhead named Donn seems way too easygoing, making her more suspicious.
He reminds her of the golden retriever type, and Zagreus is the scary guard dog. Alessia wonders if they are playing the good cop, bad cop skit.
Donn looks at her, wondering how he will explain everything.
"You see, we heard that a human was doing a different type of exorcism that we don't normally see or come across, so we came to investigate. What we found was something far more than what we were expecting." Donn looks at Zagreus, who is silent. Letting out a sigh, he continues.
"We found you."
Alessia squints, "Why was he so hostel to me?" She points at Zagreus and glares at him, and he turns his head, ignoring her.
"Well, that is because of your power," Donn says nervously. He focuses on the fireplace, and his eyes glaze over, getting lost in thought.
"What do you mean by my power?" No human is aware of her or what she is doing. Alessia doesn't like how things are going, let alone that they kidnapped her. For now, she will go along with whatever they say. In the meantime, she needs to find a weapon.
"Did you die before?" Donn looks back at Alessia. His face grew a bit more serious.
Alessia studies him, wondering if she should tell him that much about her. She doesn't know what they want from her or who they are. Are they demons or humans? Either way, they can't be trusted.
She doesn't say anything.
Donn watches her, knowing the answer even if she says nothing. He glances at Zagreus, and his eyes flash with anger and hate. The one person he loved now lives in a human or a part of her. This woman has no idea who she is or what power she has.
"Where am I?" Alessia asks. She needs to find out, so she can plan her escape. There is no telling how far away she is from where she was staying. The less information that she gives them, the better. The more she can get out of them, it will help her plan her next move. It feels like a game of who can get the most out of each other. Alessia refuses to lose.
Donn returns his gaze to her.
"You are in the underworld Alessia."
