Chapter 10 - Ten

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

She read the message for the fifth time. How was she supposed to ask him for help without telling him her story? A story she doesn't have the privilege to tell until she was outside the hell called home. She hadn't thought far about it when she had sent a cry for help. It wasn't the best solution for her. She only has herself in this world, and she would do her best to help herself. She closed her messenger app and stared down at Loveth.

Loveth crouched on the floor sweeping the place that had been turned into a mess by Ava. "Does this mean you are no longer getting married, miss?"

Amelia lay on her bed confused; if they were trying to cut her off from marrying the stranger, she was supposed to be happy, but she wasn't happy. She had no idea why she was feeling bad about it. It must have been because she had put her hope into escaping through the marriage, and the guy seem to be understanding. She had the feeling he was going to grant her a divorce after three months of marriage.

"Are you not happy about it? You didn't want to marry a strange face. I think you are now safe from it." Loveth said with a wide smile plastered on her face.

"I don't know, Loveth. I think I just lost my last chance at freedom. For some strange reason, it felt that way to me."

Loveth was about to respond when the door to the room suddenly opened. Their gaze flew to the door where Angie was standing. A look from Angie sent Loveth running out of the room. Her gaze roamed about the room and landed on Amelia's phone.

"I can see that you have found another way to get yourself acquainted with the outside world."

Amelia's hand clutched her phone and she held it close to her chest as if the phone was a baby she was trying to protect.

"What do you want?"

Angie raised her brow, "Are you doing the talking now? Are you that confident now just because a guy showed little interest in you, and now you think you can talk to me anyhow?"

Amelia shook her head, "I mean why you came over here? I know you won't come to my room without a reason. I am asking for the reason."

She dragged a seat opposite Amelia, "I am not here to seize your phone or anything. I am just here to give you an advice. If you follow it well, your life in this house will surely be better."

Amelia doubted that anything would make her life better in the house, but she didn't voice her opinion to her stepmother. Instead, she nodded.

"If that guy comes back, tell him that you are interested in marrying him, and nothing will change your mind. Tell him to marry, Ava. And I want you to behave in the most untidy manner."

"I thought you wanted me to behave in the most ladylike manner I could in his presence." She responded with a smirk.

"I just told you to behave in the most unladylike manner. Anything that will make him feel like you are not worthy to be called his wife. Am I clear?"

Amelia nodded.

"Good. We might be going over to his place to discuss the change with his family. Your father had requested visitation with them.

"I will say it's a pleasure meeting you again Mr Afonso."

Mike didn't respond. He didn't shake her head. He focused his attention back on the bartender. "Give me a bottle of Hennessey."

"That's an expensive taste you have got," Ava said beside him. He collected the bottle and started moving to the dance floor, but she followed him behind.

Mike hated things that bothered him, and his feeling for Ava was already going towards that direction. He wouldn't want to hate the sight of his future sister-in-law.

"Are you stalking me now?" He asked.

She nodded, "You are worth stalking. I wouldn't want any of these desperate girls to lay hand on what's mine."

Mike let out cruel laughter. No one had ever claimed him before and hearing it from her sounded disgusting, "I am not yours and you are the most desperate one in here."

She shrugged, "If you call me desperate, I don't mind. I am just trying to protect what belongs to me."

He nodded, tired of exchanging words with her. Talking to her was like talking to a stone. He moved towards the v.i.p direction hoping to catch Steve. The presence of Ava alone spoiled his mood for more fun. When he opened the door, he caught sight of Steve; there was a girl sitting on his lap straddling him, and another was sucking his lips like she want it out of his mouth.

Mike shook his head, before dismissing the ladies. They left without an argument. Steve sobered up a little when his means of fun weren't there any longer.

"What's wrong? I was having fun, you, cock blocker."

Mike laughed, "I'm glad I spoiled your fun because I wasn't having any. Let's go home."

Steve groaned, "Why? Are you thinking of your ugly fiancée?"

They heard a chuckle behind and Mike turned back to see Ava staring at them. He groaned. She was definitely dangerous to be let too close. Steve sat up trying to act as decent as he could. "Who is she?"

Before Mike could talk, Ava spoke, "I'm his ugly fiancée."

They heard a whistle from Steve while Mike held Ava's gaze. Whatever game she was trying to play, she would definitely lose awfully. He had no idea where the confidence was coming from, but he was going to break her wings and make her understand that she can't have everything just because she desired it.

Steve stood up, "I'm Steve, your fiancé's best friend, and you definitely are not ugly. Don't mind me."

Mike rolled his eyes, "Are we done here? Can we move along now?" He started pulling Steve who said goodbye to Ava more than five times.

As they moved out, Mike heard Ava's voice. "See you soon again, handsome."
