Inside her room, Kendall yawned as she looked at the name cards in her hands. One each from the three reporters who persisted in digging from her background information on the main actors of the case. Going by the lines of questioning, she was positive only one of them knew of the sole suicide case at the hospital. Another yawn hit her.
I could really do with a quiet moment right now
She stretched herself whilst still seated, deciding to call it a day around lunchtime. The phone rang and the blinking led lights told her it was an internal call from a patient's room.
"Dr Kendall."
"Morning doctor, this is nurse Teoh. The patient in room 3A has woken up from his coma."
"What? Which wing?"
"The north side. Mr. John Doe. He wishes to see you, Doctor."
John. How long had he been out? Six months, seven?
Her thoughts immediately went to Samuel Chan and wondered if she should alert him.
perhaps it's better that we keep this to ourselves first?
A mental reel of the man's arrogance passed in her mind.
Stuff it. He can wait. This is still MY hospital. What happens here is my responsibility. No one else.
"All right, Miss Teoh. I'll be right over," she said, switching off the speaker.
Kendall exited her room, walking through the hospital lobby to the hallway. Acutely aware of how she must have looked to the rest of the staff. She wore no makeup, her hair uncombed, the flimsy, thin and damp t-shirt underneath her white overcoat.
Their eyes averted hers as she walked past, greetings notwithstanding. Her own smile was becoming more forced, and after a while, she decided to just let things be.
you are beautiful men will kill for you if you ask them to yesss they will
Kendall smiled at the thought of having men at her beck and call and doing things she wanted them to do. Only for the missing Arman to appear.
Where the hell is he? Why doesn't he call?
he is with her the nasty girl seduced him she took him away from you
Her thoughts uncontrollably dwelled on Arman; how the whole thing would affect badly on him and what she could do to help reduce the negative impact. She imagined it was his good side. Wanting to be everything to everyone. The character trait which endeared him to most of his colleagues and which attracted her. Deep in her thoughts, Kendall was surprised to have arrive at John Doe's room. She gently tapped her knuckles on the door before opening it.
Kendall held back a scream as she stepped headlong and stared into a suffocating darkness. One so thick that had her holding her breath. The air was thick and nauseating she dare not breathe any inside of her. Kendall felt her fear rising sensing a palpable wave of hatred caressing every inch of her body. Her mind playing reels upon reels of torrid images of deviant, murderous acts against Ain, the missing patient. Images searing through her mind. She wanted to scream but found all her muscles deaf to her commands.
And then, Kendall saw two smiling faces. Backlit by sunlight streaming through the room's solitary window, its drapes pulled to the sides and the panes opened allowing fresh air into the room.
What the hell just happened?
Kendall wiped her brow, walked over to the bed. The patient they registered as John Doe fully awakened and sitting reclined in bed.
"Good morning. I'm Dr Kendall. How are you feeling?"
"In truth, I am feeling stiff all over. I hear I've been in coma for some months?"
"Do you know who you are?"
"Dr Saari Lankasari. A non-medical doctor unlike you, though. I'm 38 years old and heading the Materials Department of Radian. Pleased to meet your acquaintance."
Kendall stared at the man sporting the thick, wavy black hair. The day's old stubble the smallest besmirching of his handsome features.
"Family members?"
"A bit of a blank there, I'm afraid. I remember having a wife and a child, but they're a blur."
"Do you have any idea what happened to you?"
"Not really. Something happened to me and a few others at the department but there is a blank in my memories as to what. I do remember being inside a hidden bunker for days, and then nothing else."
"Radian? Is it a GLC?"
"Partially. We do get a grant, and often the Government would pursue certain policies with regards our dealings. I'm curious, Doctor… Was there any news report on what happened to us? Anything at all?"
"I'm afraid I'm the last person to know these things. I hardly read any newspapers unfortunately. Arma… One of my staff said there was a small piece of news item which reveal far too little."
"Oh? Do you recollect what exactly?"
"Sorry, I don't really know. But you were one of five sent here."
"Five of us? Here?"
"…"
"… You seemed hesitant, Doctor. Is there something I should know?"
Kendall wondered then if she should reveal everything to this man.
Is he really telling the truth on his identity? How do I know for sure? What about Ain? Who is she? Too many questions…
She decided to keep mum. Let the matter rest since he did only wake up from a coma.
"Perhaps we can discuss on these matters, later, Dr Saari. After all, you will need some time to fully recover."
"Yes. Perhaps it' s far too early to be so worked up on my staff's wellbeing."
Kendall felt her cheeks blushing at the remark. How stupid of her to think he wouldn't care about the others.
"No worries, doctor. We can do this later. I must admit feeling a bit off…"
She saw him looking blankly ahead. His eyes then veered towards her as a smile appeared on his face. Kendall thought she saw a hint of lust in him as she quickly covered her open chest with an arm.
"Perhaps a short nap and a shower later would help. My apologies for persisting, Dr Kendall," said Saari.
"No, no. It should be me apologizing. Nurse Teoh will bring everything you need. We'll talk again whenever you're ready."
She saw him close his eyes, the smile never leaving his lips.
lips like Arman you wish you can kiss you can do more so much much more yesss
As nurse Teoh pulled the blanket over the patient's upper body, Kendall stared at Dr Saari aka John Doe and wondered if her mind was playing a trick on her.
Perhaps I, too, need a rest.
