Chapter 1 - :1:

A black portal opened in the air causing the group below to pause. They watched as a other boy fell out of the portal and landed flat on his back. The boy laid there for a moment gasping for air like he had been running before he fell. The boy had short and spikey pastel green hair along with one purple and one blue eye and dark skin. He also had animal like features like the four children that were watching him expect he was the only one with bear ears and a tail. He had no note worthy features other than a small scar across his left cheek and a missing right arm. He was wearing a simple blue and white sweater with black pants. The boy was either 11 or 12 somewhere around that age.

A girl around the same age approached the boy. She sat down by the boy concerned about him. The girl had medium length blonde hair, orange eyes, and dark skin. Much like the boy she was in simple and old styled clothes. The dress she wore was light blue and went down to her ankles. The only other two important things was her bunny ears and a white diamond necklace that hung from her neck.

"Are you okay?" The bunny girl asked in a soft voice. She thought of reaching out to touch him, but decided not to as she didn't know him and he didn't know her.

The boy glanced at her, but didn't comment. The green haired boy simply forced himself to sit up. His eyes curiously and worriedly scanned his surroundings. The five children found themselves standing in the middle of a beautiful forest. The forest was bright and alive with life. Everywhere the boy turned there was green plants, insects, and animals. There wasn't a single sign of human destruction. The green haired boy couldn't really remember where he came from, but something felt off about all the plants around them. It wasn't just him either. One of the girls felt a similar way.

"... Where are we?" The green haired boy asked as he dug his nail nervously into his wrist. The boy tried to remember anything, but all he got in return was a spike of pain in his head. Everything before now was blurry and chaotic. All he remembered was a mix of colors, emotions, and scents. The last emotion he remembered was fear, but why? Why was he scared? Before he could even begin to imagine the answer, a voice spoke up.

"No clue." A little boy's voice chipped in. The boy in question was around 7 or 8. He had pink hair that went slightly above his shoulders, yellow eyes, and white skin. He was also a fox with the tips of his ears and tail being black. The little boy was wearing overalls with a red long sleeved shirt under it. There was a pocket on the overalls that sat at his chest. The pocket had the image of a red mushroom stitched into it.

"We were hoping you knew..." Other soft voice chipped in so quiet that some of them didn't hear it. This boy was 13 or 14 years old. He was a deer with light brown skin, big brown eyes, and light blue hair that rested just slightly above his shoulders. The blue haired boy also had scars. He had several small ones on his forehead and it was unclear what could cause such scars. He was wearing a simple white button up shirt, brown vest, and brown pants.

"Also what happened to your arm?" The youngest boy suddenly asked without even a second thought. The blue haired boy looked at the younger one with wide eyes. In his mind he wondered how the kid could just ask something so personal especially at a time like this...

The green haired boy wasn't annoyed though and simply looked down at his arm. He began to search for the answer trying to push past the fog in his mind, but no answers came. His sleeve was tied neatly around his numb to prevent it from getting caught on stuff. It was clear the injury was old as there was no blood, so at least the boy had that going for him.

"I don't remember." The green haired boy answered before he fully stood up. His eyes continued to scan the area before landing on the last person. There was only one girl that hadn't spoken to him at all. She was a little away from the group and watching them carefully.

The last girl was a wolf with long curly black hair, light green eyes, light brown skin, and freckles all over her body. She was wearing a light green dress that went to her knees. The dress had sleeves that slipped off the shoulder only held up by white straps. The green haired boy and wolf girl met eyes for a moment. There was no words spoken, but the green haired boy knew she was making a threat in her head.

Without a second thought the green haired boy started off in a random direction. This confused the others as they watched him for a moment.

"Hey! Wait where are you going?" The bunny girl said as she watched him with confused eyes. This made the green haired boy stop and look over his shoulder.

"It's going to be dark eventually... So you can either A. stay here and starve or B. try to climb back into that portal. I know for a fact none of you want to do either of those options. How I see it heading in one direction is our best option." The green haired boy replied to the girl's question. That portal gave him a weird feeling. It was like his heart may stop pumping if he got too close and he knew the others felt that. There was a moment of silence before the youngest broke it.

"Road trip!" The youngest boy said before he tried to bolt past the green haired boy to explore. The deer boy tried to grab him fearing the kid would hurt himself, but the mushroom boy proved to be too fast for the deer. The youngest wasn't too fast for the green haired boy though. The green haired boy easily grabbed the youngest by the back of his shirt causing the youngest to freeze.

"How about we look around together instead?" The green haired boy said as he looked down at the shorter kid. The youngest just nodded quietly. He felt a spike of fear in his heart as the green haired boy grabbed him. The youngest didn't think the fear came from the green haired boy, but something about the action bothered him. The haired boy let go afterwards.

"That's great, but what about the portal? What if someone else falls out of it?" The bunny girl asked as she looked over at the dark portal. Before the green haired boy even thought of an answer, the portal closed up leaving nothing, but the children as proof of it's existence.

"... Problem solved." The green haired boy said with a shrug. He began to walk again with the youngest in toe. The other three sat there for a moment wondering if they truly wanted to follow.

The first one to follow was the bunny girl as she didn't see any other options, so she walked after the two boys. The deer boy bit his lip with nervousness. He was hesitant, but forced his legs to follow. The last thing he wanted was to be alone. This left the two girls for a moment. It didn't take long for the bunny girl to follow as well leaving one wolf girl.

The wolf girl sat there for a moment wondering. She didn't trust these strangers or this forest. She looked down at her wrist which was bleeding from a claw mark. She didn't remember it happening, but she knew whatever was on the other side of that portal wasn't friendly. She ended up following the group in fear whatever was behind that portal would appear any moment. She stayed a good distance away though.

The green haired boy lead the group through the woods though he nor anyone with him knew where they would end up. The green haired boy was just hoping they stumbled apon someone.
