Chapter 18 - Combat Drill

Michael's eyes lit up as he put away the new identity token with the words 'Tier 4 Mage' engraved on it.

With this item, he could receive a new reward. Tier 4 mages had their own castles, so they didn't have to stay in their dormitories. There was also a larger alchemy room inside. Most importantly, they could also move their teammates in. This meant that Carl and Mr. Royce no longer had to squeeze into the small dormitory.

"We'll go celebrate after the assessment." Royce cheered. "My treat!"

"We'd better not. Do you still have money?" Carl asked, "Let me treat you. I still have some money."

"Speaking of money, I remember that I haven't settled the score with that liar yet! After the assessment is over, we'll find that swindler and get our money back. Then, we'll go and have a good meal," Mr. Royce said indignantly. Even now, he still felt a pain in his chest when he thought of those gold coins.

Michael quietly watched the two of them play around. "Let's go to the next assessment first."

The next test was the talisman assessment that Mr. Royce excelled in. He walked into the assessment room with large strides.

The content of this assessment was straightforward. It was to make the simplest movement talisman.

The examiner had long heard of Mr. Royce. He was also the talisman instructor in charge of the later stages, so he invited Mr. Royce. "After you pass the assessment, do you want to consider signing up for my class? I've dabbled in the field of talismans, so I should be able to teach you a lot of useful knowledge."

The results of the students were also related to the teachers. The more famous the students were, the more prominent the teachers would be. Thus, many high-level mages who were qualified to be tutors would deliberately pay attention to those students who were superior in their field of teaching. They would think of ways to take them under their tutelage in advance and teach them in the future.

When they discovered that their students were very bad in some aspects and could not pass the annual assessment, they would also think of ways to inform the other instructors to secretly add points to the students they liked to ensure successful passing of the early annual assessment.

Therefore, the reason why Mr. Royce was able to pass the annual assessment despite having such a serious bias was partly Michael's secret assistance and partly because this mentor, who majored in talismans, had secretly used his connections to go easy on Mr. Royce, thus improving his results in other subjects.

"Alright, I will consider it." This teacher was a very famous talisman mage. Mr. Royce was also very happy with his invitation and agreed immediately.

Soon, the assessment began. Carl used the vines to quickly draw a similar talisman with Eric's help and received an S rank evaluation. Michael received a similar evaluation. Both of them passed the talisman test.

Meanwhile, Mr. Royce calmly chanted an incantation. Talismans flew up as he spoke, floating around him in circles, streaking across a blue magic light. His owl was also flying among them, using its claws to press paw prints on the talismans to increase their magic power.

Mr. Royce picked up the pen in the vortex formed by magic power and waved it. The ink gradually appeared on the talisman. The talismans flew to the side and automatically formed a neat stack of talismans. They were all high-level talismans with high-level magic power.

With the SSSS evaluation announced by the invigilator, Mr. Royce's talisman assessment this year was once again firmly ranked first among the mages.

The examiner who was looking at him was even more delighted. The drawing of talismans was actually related to the level of the mage. Mr. Royce was only an Intermediate Mage Apprentice, yet he could already draw such powerful talismans. When he became a high-level mage trainer, there would probably be no mage in the entire Tyre Continent who'd be more powerful than Mr. Royce.

"Not bad." After hearing the results, Michael patted Mr. Royce on the shoulder as an encouragement.

"Of course. Don't you know who I am?" Mr. Royce said proudly, "I'm going to be the most powerful mage in spells on the Tyre Continent in the future."

"Is that so? Then you have to practice your other aspects well. Don't be eliminated before you become the strongest." Michael deliberately joked.

"That was just an accident. My future will definitely be better." Mr. Royce said indignantly.

Outside the Dark Forest.

Finally, they entered the last segment of the assessment, all feeling a little tired.

This was a straightforward combat assessment. In fact, it could be completed by expelling some ordinary magical beasts. The three of them took a relaxed walk here.

During the academy's assessment, a simple barrier would be set up near the assessment ground to prevent powerful magical beasts from barging in and causing harm to the acolytes. It could be said that this was the safest time in the Dark Forest.

Carl even began to use his spiritual plant ability to explore if there were any valuable spiritual plants nearby, planning to take the opportunity to bring them back for breeding.

They wandered around the assessment area for a while but did not find any spiritual plants. Instead, they found the fluorescent stones they did not see last time. They then hurriedly collected them, planning to submit the mission in the reward hall after the assessment.

"Looks like it's very simple this time." As soon as Mr. Royce spoke, a huge rabbit contaminated by black magic rushed over.

No matter how big an ordinary rabbit grew, it would only be the size of a cat. However, this rabbit was as big as a wolf. If it weren't for the rabbit's iconic long ears and three-lobed mouth on its head, it would have been dead. Mr. Royce almost didn't recognize that it was a rabbit.

"This is an ordinary small magical beast!" Mr. Royce threw out the treasury talisman, and it quickly surrounded the rabbit in circles. As he chanted the mantra, incantations came off the talisman paper one by one, wrapping around the rabbit's body to form tight confinement.

On the other side, Carl also controlled his vines to raise their spikes and attack the enchanted rabbit.

"Of course, it's a small magical beast." Kanal flew in the air and complained, "Isn't a rabbit a small magical beast?"

"But this rabbit is too big." Michael raised his magic staff and chanted an attack spell. A small magic ball flew out, and the powerful magic power created a bloody hole in the rabbit's chest, shattering its huge heart.

With a loud bang, the rabbit fell to the ground. Many parts of such a large creature could be used as alchemy materials. Michael put it into the vault, planning to break it down when he returned.

At this moment, the mechanical voice of passing the assessment also entered their ears. Just as they were about to return to the academy to receive the reward, another nest of demonized rabbits rushed out.
