Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 More Important Matters

"Lin Xing, you stayed in Mirror World for a total of three hours and twenty-five minutes."

In the office, Wei Zhi looked at Lin Xing and asked, "What did you experience there?"

Lin Xing sighed deeply and said, "The natives of Mirror World are too impolite, each of them wanted to kill me."

Wei Zhi nodded, "I've told you before, based on the current information on the natives of Mirror World, the people in that world likely have some mental issues to some extent."

"Indeed, there are too few normal people," Lin Xing lamented and briefly shared his experiences.

After a while, as Wei Zhi listened, he recorded all the intelligence Lin Xing recounted, feeling that many of the details were very valuable.

Finally, he shook his head and said, "I can't believe how dangerous your trip was this time. By the way, you said you can now feel when the door is opening?"

Lin Xing nodded and said, "Yes, I can sense it a bit ahead of time."

Wei Zhi said, "Then if you are able to sense it next time, you can immediately tell us. Oh, and… why don't you move out of Building C first? The undercover matter can be put on hold."

Clearly, in Wei Zhi's view, Lin Xing, who was frequently able to enter Mirror World, was much more valuable than those three psychiatric patients in Building C.

However, Lin Xing waved his hand and said, "Building C is pretty good, they provide room and board, and the daily meals are much better than what I get at home. Communicating with Doctor Chu is quite helpful for me, and I still have some questions I want to ask the other patients here, so I'm not moving out just yet."

Wei Zhi thought back to the content of the medical records and felt that continuing to observe Lin Xing in Building C wasn't a bad idea, especially since it could be more troublesome if a door opened while he was outside, particularly given his voluntary cooperation.

After more conversation, watching Lin Xing's retreating figure, Wei Zhi picked up his phone and dialed: "Hello? Is this the director? I've collected a lot of intelligence on Mirror World, and there's a major discovery about Lin Xing..."

From the phone came Director Lv Ming's voice: "I already know about Lin Xing's situation, his potential to attract the opening of the door is indeed very valuable."

"But now there are more important matters, I might not be able to return to the bureau for the next few months, and we also can't allocate more resources to you all temporarily."

Hearing this, Wei Zhi looked puzzled: "Why? Lin Xing is able to sense, and possibly even attract the door's opening. Through him, we might be able to dispatch teams for a deeper exploration of Mirror World..."

Before Wei Zhi could finish, Lv Ming cut in, "There's a permanently open door that appeared in West Sea City."

"What?" Wei Zhi was shocked, only then noticing that it sounded chaotic and noisy on Lv Ming's side of the phone.

Lv Ming continued, "The first exploration team has already returned, and the higher-ups are currently very interested in the technique mentioned by Lin Xing, which is one of the reasons I'm heading there."

"You should understand what a fixed door represents, most of the resources will be invested there for the time being, it will be sufficient to simply keep observing Lin Xing."

"Also, be prepared, if needed, you might have to come here as well."

After hanging up the phone, Wei Zhi was still in shock.

"A fixed door..."

He knew this meant that their powers could now explore Mirror World more efficiently.

An entire world was unfolding before them—land, resources, population, markets, knowledge... the value was almost incalculable, not just for the nation but for the entire civilization, the whole planet; it could have an immeasurable impact.

By comparison, the value manifested by Lin Xing so far indeed had to be put on hold.

Humanity was about to face a monumental change, and the epicenter of this change was currently in West Sea City.

Thinking of this, Wei Zhi's heart seemed to flutter, flying toward West Sea City, eager to witness this transformation firsthand.

Elsewhere, Lin Xing returned to his hospital room.

As soon as the cat plush saw him return, it asked, "Where did you go?"

Lin Xing stretched lazily and said, "Nothing much, just talking about this trip's experience."

Lin Xing lay down on the bed, and soon, the sound of his snoring filled the room; he was thoroughly exhausted.

Seeing him lying down, Bai Yiyi had many questions about time reversal she wanted to ask him but could only swallow them for the moment.

He slept until the next day dawned, feeling refreshed.

After eating breakfast, he was escorted by the caregiver to the activity room.

However, he noticed that the caregivers and security guards along the way looked at him with strange eyes.

This was because Lin Xing's sudden disappearance in the hallway the day before had spread throughout Building C.

At that moment, Lin Xing, in the eyes of everyone, no longer seemed like an ordinary psychiatric patient.

Arriving in the activity room, Lin Xing saw Jiang Hong reclining on the hospital bed as before, staring at the garden outside the window.

As Lin Xing approached, Jiang Hong asked, "Have you been back?"

Lin Xing was surprised, "How do you know?"

Jiang Hong glanced at the nearby caregiver and said, "These people love to gossip, it went round and round until I heard about your disappearance."

Lin Xing said, "Yes, I went back once. By the way, do you know what God's money is?"

Jiang Hong's pupils seemed to constrict slightly as he asked, "Where did you hear about that?"

So Lin Xing said, "I went to a place called Jiang Family Village and saw the locals carrying away a little girl. I asked them why, and they said it was because her family couldn't afford the God's money. Oh, you also have the Jiang surname; are you from that Jiang Family Village?"

Listening to Lin Xing's narrative, Jiang Hong's hands unconsciously clenched his hospital gown.

Jiang Hong asked, "What did the little girl look like?"

Listening to Lin Xing's description, Jiang Hong said, "Can you save her?"

"Save?"

Jiang Hong harshly said, "God's money is the sum all the villagers of Jiang Family Village have to gather each year to show reverence to the Mountain God."

Jiang Hong grew increasingly agitated, the veins on his hands holding the hospital gown popping.

"If a family can't gather it, they often have to sell their fields to the village chief, and if the fields are gone, they can only sell children."

Murderous intent surged from Jiang Hong as he stared at Lin Xing and said, "She was taken away; it must be the village chief planning to sell her into the city."

Jiang Hong's unusual behavior had already attracted the nearby caregiver's attention: "Jiang Hong, don't get agitated..."

Jiang Hong pushed the caregiver away, enunciating each word: "Save her."

With the caregiver's call, more caregivers and security guards rushed over and restrained Jiang Hong.

Yet Jiang Hong, furious, shoved several people away and said to Lin Xing, "If you rescue her, I'll tell you how to open the door!"

As more security guards arrived and started to restrain Jiang Hong and as the doctor began administering sedatives, he said, "Save her, and I'll tell you..."

Watching Jiang Hong's gradually disappearing figure, a thoughtful flicker crossed Lin Xing's eyes.
