Regaining consciousness, Lin Xing took a deep breath.
"No good, the opponents are skilled, react quickly, have guns, and might even possess superpowers; a direct confrontation is too difficult."
"Sigh, why does this superpower organization want to kill me so badly?"
While pondering, he first locked and barricaded the front door with chairs and tables before running toward the bedroom, planning to escape and seek help via the balcony.
However, as he opened the bedroom door, a familiar sensation hit him—Lin Xing took one step forward and in a flash of light and darkness, he vanished inside the bedroom.
Moments later, a man in black opened the entrance door; he checked his phone's photo album while searching the room for something but found nothing.
In his phone's album was an image of a white cat plushie.
...
"Captain Wei! Another door has appeared!"
"Where?"
On hearing the reported address, Captain Wei paused briefly and after some thought asked, "Why does this address seem so familiar... Where does Lin Xing live?"
"Captain, it appears to be Lin Xing's house address."
"Captain Wei, we've lost contact with Xiao Zhang who was watching Lin Xing."
...
Meanwhile, with the creak of a door, Lin Xing startled at the sight of a shed behind it.
He turned quickly to find that he was no longer at home but standing in a yard resembling a rural homestead, in front of a shed's door.
He was shocked, "Spatial teleportation! This superpower assassin can perform spatial teleportation? He teleported me out of my house!"
Lin Xing hadn't expected to encounter teleportation or spatial transfer so soon into his fight against dark forces.
"It seems even such powerful individuals are being sent out; it looks like this dark force wanting me dead is even more terrifying than I imagined."
He surveyed his surroundings, thinking, "I may have been sent right into their ambush, and this place might even be one of their hideouts, possibly setting me up for a well-planned execution..."
He took out his phone to try it, and sure enough, the signal was blocked.
Suddenly, something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention—down by his feet.
A white cat plushie lay quietly on the ground.
"Was this plushie also sent over? Why?"
As Lin Xing examined the plushie, he failed to notice a pair of eyes fiercely watching him through a crack in the door.
It was an elderly man with a sinister look who observed Lin Xing's dress and gradually revealed a cruel smile.
"That disrespectful kid actually let the native escape from the sanctuary?"
The old man slowly moved, picking up a firewood chopper from the room.
On the other side, Lin Xing was still examining the cat plushie when suddenly, he felt a nasty gust and saw a ragged old man wielding the chopper coming at him.
Lin Xing roared and grappled with the man; although he appeared to be just a frail old man, the strange strength from his hand forced Lin Xing to retreat step by step.
As the firewood chopper tore open his neck, Lin Xing's consciousness fading, his last thought was, "There was indeed an ambush!"
As he came to his senses again, Lin Xing found himself standing in front of the firewood shed, and immediately ran towards the direction of the courtyard gate.
However, the old man had already run out from the earthen house nearby, his firewood knife slashing down at him again.
After several failed escape attempts resulting in his death, Lin Xing realized the troubling situation before him.
The old man was blocking the path from the firewood shed to the courtyard gate. After a few tries, Lin Xing knew that with his speed, there was no way he could outpace the old man and escape the courtyard.
As for a direct confrontation... not only were the old man's strength and speed superior, but he also wielded a weapon.
And Lin Xing hadn't thought to grab any tools when he attempted to escape from the bedroom for help, so he was now unarmed.
Knowing he couldn't defeat his foe empty-handed, Lin Xing understood his chances of winning were extremely slim.
After another time reversal, Lin Xing immediately hid inside the firewood shed, turned around to shut the door, and stuck a wooden stick through the door bolt.
Moments later, the wooden door was violently pushed from the other side. As Lin Xing held the door shut, he tried to find some usable tools within the shed.
The pushing from the other side of the door lessened after a brief deadlock, but Lin Xing could still hear wild, beast-like panting sounds coming from outside.
Then he heard the old man suddenly speak in a friendly tone, "Kid, just come out, and I won't kill you."
Lin Xing snorted, "You've gone through great lengths to ambush me, even using supernatural abilities like 'space teleportation', and now you say you won't kill me? Go fool someone else..."
Before Lin Xing could finish his sentence, there was a loud snap as the firewood knife heavily struck the wooden door.
The blade, covered in dried blood, pierced through the door, nearly stabbing Lin Xing's head.
As the old man started hacking at the door frantically, creating holes, Lin Xing hurriedly gathered tools from the shed.
He held a sickle in his left hand and a hoe in his right, then looked at the doll that had somehow also ended up in the shed.
"When did this doll get in here?"
The next moment, he stuffed the doll against his chest.
"This thing is pretty thick, it might block a few blows..."
As Lin Xing was thinking this, he unexpectedly felt some resistance while fitting the doll.
"Hm? Is my clothing too tight? Why is this so hard to stuff?"
Just as he was about to fully stuff the doll into his clothing, a faint voice suddenly entered Lin Xing's mind.
"Stinky boy! If you want to die, go die yourself, why use me to block the knife?"
"Who's speaking!" Startled, Lin Xing then looked at the doll, "Can the doll talk too?"
Despite everything, Lin Xing, being a superpower wielder, quickly accepted the surreal situation and looked at the doll with curiosity.
The doll's voice continued, "That old thing outside has at least learned one sword technique and one footwork, a total of two skills. You know nothing, so surviving under his blade is impossible."
"Since you're undoubtedly going to die, just die alone, why drag me into it?"
Lin Xing, still confused, asked again, "What do you mean by that?"
Seeing the doll didn't respond, Lin Xing put it back on the ground, saying, "Don't worry, now that I know you're alive, I won't use you to block the knife, but can you explain what you just said?"
Watching the wooden door nearly split in half by the ferocious old man, Lin Xing, surprisingly calm, sat down on the floor to ask questions, making the doll wonder whether this kid was too foolish or too brave.
However, seeing that Lin Xing was giving it a chance to live before his impending death, the doll answered, "Sword technique, footwork, mounted archery, sprinting, stone lifting, swimming, chopping wood, cooking... anything can be a skill, and the reason you can't defeat that old guy outside is because you haven't learned even a single skill..."
The doll stopped mid-sentence because the old man had broken through the door and swung his knife violently at Lin Xing's neck.
