The common people suffer in times of prosperity and in times of downfall.
No matter the era, the underprivileged always have it rough because the system always feeds the top with the sweat and blood of those at the bottom.
In the old days, society was stable and peaceful. Parents without great education or talent couldn't do much beyond simple labor on construction sites or farming at home, longing for their children during their idle time. They worried about what to eat every day, what they could leave behind for their children, and little else.
Aside from that, their concerns were largely mundane: whether the crops lacked water, when it would rain... so on and so forth.
They didn't have grand ambitions; to live their lives in peace was their only wish.
However, life is not always as we wish. The apocalypse descended upon their tranquil existence with no warning. Once harmonious neighbors turned into flesh-eating monsters, ordinary beasts mutated into vicious creatures.
