A man put down his binoculars from the window, a spark of excitement flickering in his eyes.
He had just seen a heavy lorry pass by on the road not far away. He was initially exhilarated, but the excitement cooled gradually as the lorry disappeared among the tall buildings.
Standing by the window for a while, the man cast a glance at the chaotic layout of the bedding area, exhaling softly and tiptoeing to keep clear of bumping into anything piled up by the sides of the beds.
Once back at his own bed, he looked at his wife wrapped entirely in grotesque, coarse, black clothes and felt a pang of heartache.
Only he knew how delicately soft her body was... An instant of reminiscence crossed his eyes as he sat down, held her in his arms, and gazed lovingly at her, just like always before squinting to survey the silent bedding area.
"Does anyone want a loaf of bread?"
Suddenly, a man holding a loaf of bread stood in front of the bedding compound, shouting and breaking the silence.
