Pei Xingcheng's expression hardened upon hearing the news. He realized that he had been cleverly tricked into apologizing to her, which made his blood boil. He glared at her, pointing his finger in accusation, "You, you, you...," he stuttered in anger.
Miss Ghost raised her eyebrows, appearing unfazed by his outburst. "What?" she asked, her voice laced with amusement.
"You were acting this whole time?" he asked her, his tone laced with disbelief.
A sly smile crept up on her lips as she casually raised her eyebrows. "Otherwise?" she replied.
Pei Xingcheng's face turned crimson with fury. His dark eyes glared at her as if he was ready to pounce. His fists clenched tightly as he struggled to control his anger. "You!"
Despite his anger, Miss Ghost remained unfazed and smiled broadly. "So, how did you like my acting? Do you think I have a chance to play the role of the ghost in your movie?" she asked.
"Chance, my foot!" he sneered, "I should have known better than to feel sorry for you. You don't deserve my..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Miss Ghost chuckled and interrupted him. "Hey, hey, hey, Mr. Actor, be careful with your words. If you hurt my heart, I'll disappear. Then you will be left on your own to deal with the ghost in this room," she warned.
Pei Xingcheng: "........."
Recalling the words of the ghost sent a chill down his spine, causing him to quickly change his expression. He contemplated the value of his life versus his face and decided that his life was far more important. He understood that while he could eventually regain his face, he could never regain his life once it was lost.
Also, it was never too late for a gentleman to take revenge. But for now, he needed her help and therefore decided to appease her. With a flattering smile, he spoke to her, "Dear Miss Ghost, I was only kidding. Please don't take my words too seriously."
"Really?" she asked, with a knowing smile. She could almost see an invisible tail wagging behind him as if he were a pet trying to appease his master.
He nodded his head vigorously. "Yes, really. I'm not pulling your leg or anything. I mean it with all my heart... just please, don't leave me alone in the room," he pleaded, his voice tinged with a hint of fear.
"But what if I had already taken your words seriously?" she asked, playfully teasing him.
He winced at the thought, his spine shuddering as he imagined the repercussions of his words. "T-then... then I would apologize to you again," he said, his teeth gritted in anticipation of her judgment.
Miss Ghost stared at him silently, taking in his expression and body language. Just as he was about to start apologizing once more, she waved her hand dismissively, cutting him off mid-sentence. "Forget it. I don't want to listen to your fake apologies anymore. Anyways, I am feeling quite tired, and I would like to rest now."
Pei Xingcheng: "........." (You are a ghost!!! What kind of rest do you want to take?)
Miss Ghost raised her brows as she noticed his expression. "Do you have a problem?"
He quickly shook his head and replied, "No, no problem. You can do whatever you want."
Even if he did have a problem, would she listen to him? Probably not. And if he asked her to do something, would she do it? Definitely not.
So what was the point of saying anything at all? He decided it was better to ignore her actions and focus on why he was there in the first place.
"Okay," Miss Ghost smiled happily and went to bed.
He sighed as he saw her floating on the bed in a sleeping position and walked towards her. Miss Ghost immediately made space for him. Patting the bed, she asked if he was tired and wanted to sleep. He shook his head and said he wanted to take a shower. However, he had something to ask her.
Hearing this, Miss Ghost opened her eyes. He looked around carefully before whispering in a low voice, "Have you seen the ghost of this mansion?"
She shook her head and replied, "Not yet."
"That means there is a ghost in this mansion," he stated fearfully.
Miss Ghost nodded. "Yes."
When she first entered the house, she felt a strong presence and decided to search for it. Being a new ghost, she wanted to find this ghost and discuss her situation. At the same time, she was slightly excited to meet another ghost just like her.
She checked every nook and corner of this whole mansion, but she couldn't find any trace of a ghost. It felt like the ghost was intentionally hiding from her. After searching for a long time, she gave up and returned to Pei Xingcheng's side.
However, just as she approached his room, she felt a strong presence inside the room. But the moment she appeared, the ghost disappeared.
"I think that ghost is intentionally hiding from me," she said.
Hearing that, Pei Xingcheng's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Miss Ghost hummed and began to explain, "I tried to look for her, but couldn't find her. And when I returned, it was with you in your room. However, when I appeared in your room, she disappeared."
Pei Xingcheng pondered over this information, and it suddenly dawned on him that it was indeed so. He felt a renewed sense of vigor and hope for survival in this haunted mansion. This meant that the other ghost wouldn't harm him as long as he stayed closer to Miss Ghost.
This was like hitting the jackpot. It was as if she had suddenly become his lucky charm to ward off other ghosts.
Thinking so, he pleaded gently, "Miss Ghost, then you have to stay close to me."
"Huh?"
"Earlier, that ghost threatened to harm me," he informed.
"So? That's your problem, not mine," she smiled.
Pei Xingcheng's eyes widened with disbelief. "You... you... didn't you say that you will protect me?"
"But as far as I remember, Xingcheng, you rejected my offer," she said with a teasing smile on her lips. "You said you don't need my help."
Pei Xingcheng: "..........."
