Caelus' heart skipped a bit only to realize that the voice came from someone standing behind him. It wasn't a ghost. It was Chester.
"Cool, man. You know I'm here. Even though you lack muscles, you sure have a good instinct. I just came here smelling something. Can I have some?"
"Sure. Ehem. It's almost heated. Let me just put them on a plate. You should wait with Alisa, she's also awake. And since she's a doctor…? She should know more about the do's and don'ts of being a patient. Unless you want to open the door to death's door, you can come and ask me."
Chester let out a chuckle before coughing. "You'll be bad *cough* for my health. But, I'll keep note not to ask you about those. It's great to have you here."
Caelus chuckled at Chester's retreating body.
He moved the bread that was heated and filled two cups of hot water. He wasn't sure what type of drink he should give the two, he forgot to ask, and it seems like Alisa was really too weak earlier to instruct him on what he should prepare.
Bringing the plate of heated bread and hot water, he proceeded to the "quarters" of recuperating patients.
There, Alisa was still laying in her "bed" but Chester was sitting close to her. They were chatting… or more appropriately, Chester was chatting non-stop. He was even coughing once in a while, but that didn't stop his chatter.
"Hey, come eat so you'll both have energy. From what Hikari said, you didn't eat for two months. Although you attack and spread the virus to other living humans, you didn't really intake any food. The virus is really amazing. I don't even know how they were able to make the human body be able to stop the need for eating and water. Ah, I didn't know what to bring so I heated bread and water."
"O-oh, I forgot,"
Alisa said, she just realized he didn't instruct the young man.
"Warm water should help our stomach get used to some intake of food. As for this bread, Chester, don't eat too much. *Cough, cough* It would also be great if there's banana… also soup. Although we can't take heavy meal, we can take porridge, soup or any light *cough* meal. I think I'll be fine later, I'm just too weak at the moment."
"Ah! I understand,"
Caelus nodded realizing what Alisa said were actually logical. He should've thought of it, but it wasn't his field so he really didn't think of those.
In Sho's memory, he didn't have to go through real starvation. Even when he was grieving for the loss of his parents, he was mechanically eating anything he could.
"I'll prepare some soup. I-I don't have any God Points so I won't be able to buy bananas. There's no fruit here since you can't preserve fresh foods here. Hikari is still sleeping, so you have to make do with me as your nurse," he said wryly.
The two chuckled.
"It's fine. After I'm all set with my health, I'll take the role of nurse. Thank you." Alisa dignifiedly nodded towards him.
Even though the two didn't know him, they were still friendly because he was taking care of them. Chester already explored the cave and saw Hikari sleeping, this ward that holds people who had been cured and the other "prison" that has the zombies that need treatment. After Alisa and Chester discussed things, they knew that Hikari and Caelus were responsible for curing them.
"Thank you. Two months, huh? I barely remember anything…" Chester's voice was energetic at first before softening.
"It's not your fault. It's the virus that controls you. I'll explain later how they work… or maybe Hikari would do the explaining. Just eat for now, we would need the two of you so we can cure everyone."
He smiled encouragingly before leaving the two.
He knew it wasn't his place to do the talking to comfort them. He was a stranger to both of them. It would be better if they could do the heart-to-heart talk between themselves or with Hikari. At least, Hikari knew both of them.
Caelus would only feel awkward trying to say things.
Even though their current situation is an apocalypse, people would still prefer to have those close to them to straighten them up, not some random dude who they didn't know at all.
Caelus was specially the outlier since he wasn't of this world.
He doesn't know anyone at all.
Hikari woke up after four hours of sleep.
Because she was a nurse, she was used to shifting schedules. She could sleep and wake up even if it's just two hours, what's more if it's four hours.
"You should've rested more." Caelus said when he saw her stretching out.
"Nope. I'm a nurse, it's in my blood to be able to sleep and wake up with a power nap. And also, the situation is still not stable. I can sleep as much as I want once we have more people. So far, we only have four people, it's not stable enough. In some days when we have more people healed, then we would have more help. I can sleep as much as I want then. But you, you won't. You're the only one who can cure the virus."
Caelus was speechless.
He couldn't retaliate anymore.
He actually wanted to bring out the topic about cutting his sleep, comparing it to Hikari's sleep. Little did he know she was prepared.
"Only he could cure the virus?" Alisa curiously eyed Caelus. She was using the wall cave as a backrest.
Since Gouki and Asahi only created simple beds on the floor that could give comfort to those who were recuperating, they didn't think about those who wanted to sit up. But that was only a minor detail, no one actually complained about it.
More than two months after the apocalypse, almost everyone didn't care about luxurious things now. Soft bed, chair or the likes were the least in their mind. As long as they are safe and have food, then it is alright.
"Yes. Hmm… I smell soup. Let me just get some food. Sho, talk to them first. You can explain how you do it. I bet Alisa is very curious." Hikari almost dashed towards the "kitchen" area.
Caelus chuckled.
"Ah! We don't even know your name yet!"
He was dazed for a second before he broke into a smile.
"I'm Sho Chad. I'm half-Yamato, half-Germania. Most of my features came from my dad. I used to be rich, but I don't know if any of my inheritance is still alive."
The two at first raised eyebrows on his first part of his sentence, but hearing his whole sentence, both laughed out loud. "You're funny kiddo. You're not like those rich kids at all, arrogant,"
"And dead." Chester added.
The three looked at each other before breaking into a laugh. Caelus silently sighed. It was good to have a good laugh once in a while. He felt he was back to "himself" before all the chaotic things that had happened.
But he stopped when he thought of that.
*Caelus… who's the real you?*
"So, how did you cure us?" Alisa asked with full curiosity in her eyes.
Caelus thought of those mad scientists seeing her like that.
"It's not scientific at all!" He said defensively.
He was afraid of getting skinned alive if he disappointed Alisa's enthusiasm. It felt that Alisa would not hesitate to make him as his test subject if she was not satisfied with his answer.
"Haha! What do you take me for? I won't kill you just because it's not scientific. Come on, explain to me!"
Caelus didn't notice how Chester looked weirdly at Alisa as he released a sigh of relief.
